After seeing and hearing both candidates tonight, it is utterly and shockingly amazing that this is a close race. How in the world is it a close race??!! Hudson County really is a completely separate universe.

It may be political, but its kinda dumb, politically. All it does is continue to draw attention to something that has defined him for the past almost four years. Fulop is so far under his skin that he just lashes out in all directions. You see it at the debates. You read it in the papers. The contempt he has for Fulop is palpable.

Healy and his lawyers know full well that for a plaintiff who is a candidate in a political campaign, it would be almost impossible to win this suit. He would have to prove not only that the statements were false (tough to prove given that they are true) but also that Fulop knew they were false or acted with reckless disregard for the truth.

This is purely political. Another abuse of the courts.

I wonder who is going to get stuck with the bill this time.

Fulop really was the only one who spoke clearly and maintained composure throughout the debate. I have to agree with mrasg1, it seemed like the panel just wanted to get out as quick as possible.

Glad you came out - sorry we didn't meet. I agree with you. Can you believe Healy was 10x worse in his belligerence at last week's debate in Ward A. He was being "good" tonight, believe it or not... As usual, Steve came out focused, poised and with a plan.

Below is the FBI video that Fulop took his commercial from. This is the one where Dwek asked to be on top of the pile and also the one where Dwek tells Healy how much money he is giving before . Also hopes to see him after the election.

In this video towards the end Beldini gives a lesson on how to break up the money so it could be funneled back to the Mayor when needed. Funny in this one Cheatham is telling Dewk to watch how he talks money with.

** *
I know Healy never touched any cash but how did he not get indicted along with the rest of his crooked team ? It is clear he knows that Dwek is asking for favors. Dwek is asking to be put on the top of the pile. Healy even corrects Dwek when he says bottom, Healy says you mean top.

Healy is a former judge. You would think he understood the law of defamation regarding public figures a bit better than that.

PolitickerNJ.com: Healy plans to sue Fulop over Dwek ad

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy plans to sue his opponent in the upcoming mayoral race, claiming defamation over a recent campaign add, according to a statement released today by the healy campaign.

Healy claims the add produced by the campaign of downtown Councilman Steve Fulop that shows FBI surveillance footage of Healy meeting with disgraced FBI informant Solomon Dwek is defamatory and a lie....

The ad features FBI surveillance video of the meeting. In the video, Dwek is posing as developer Dave Esenbach, who purported to be interested in building a condo complex in Jersey City. The developer can be heard telling Healy that he hopes his application will not end up at the "bottom of the pile" and tells Healy he gave "Jack" $10,000.

"And I'll do another 10 now," Dwek can be heard telling Healy. The voiceover tells viewers they are watching surveillance video of Healy making a "$30,000 secret deal with a developer."

Healy was never charged with a crime, a fact the campaign says makes the ad defamatory.

Nah, now you're a newbie. Every now & again a neighbor talks about an old timer who lived in such & such a house before I moved in (that was in 1964).

About eight years ago, I told someone to get over the newcomer attitude because those newbies just may be Jersey City's salvation. Though there were many that used Jersey City as a transition from mommy & daddy's to their own family in the suburbs, many more were starting to grow solid roots in the community & it hasn't been all bad.

It is time for the Good Old Boys Club to reserve their rockers at Sunnydale.

Jerry Healy's greatest fear is the educated voter or as he calls them, "Interlopers." Let's show him and his cronies that they can't rely on another rubber-stamp vote where nepotism and greed is their only ally.

Make no mistake voters, for decades this city has been using back-door deals, nepotism and double-dipping relatives to fuel re-election campaigns. It's essentially the only avenue Jerry has to get re-elected and while these are nifty tricks to help bring people to the pols, albeit for the wrong reasons, there is a new and informed Jersey City voter who sees through it.

All the corruption that Jersey City recently went through under Jerry's watch, more and more new renters and home owners who care about the schools they are sending their children too and the horrible crime stats alone should snuff out this old way of playing Jersey City politics.

Much to Healy's chagrin, Jersey City is getting smarter and the smart vote is for Steven Fulop.

Only 31,600 voted in the last Mayoral election and decided our political fate? I find that astounding. I think they're all here on JC List defending their favorite candidate. :)

Our city elections have historically had such low turnout. Its sad really. But its the norm. Apathy is the norm. We have to fight that as Healy & CO. are counting on it to win.

Folks,

This is a ?Get out the vote? election if there ever was one. Fulop and his slate only win if those who proclaim to want change get out there and actually vote (versus just complaining out everything).

Why does Mayor Healy hate the ?interlopers?? Because we?re (even though I?ve been here 13 years, I?m fairly sure I?m still considered an interloper) not happy with the status quo. But many of the newer residents of Jersey City still see New York City as their ?real? home and Michael Bloomberg as their ?actual? mayor.

But that?s beginning to change. It is up to those of us who are truly motivated to make sure that our friends and neighbors who, although may be starting to pay attention, aren?t quite as invested as us get out there and participate. Voting is not asking very much of us, but sometimes we just need a gentle (or not so gentle) reminder to do what is needed.

So if you really want to see change, get your friends and neighbors to the polls on May 14th. Hell, offer to go with them. Let?s do this people.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy visited by FBI one day before corruption arrests

By Amy Sara Clark/The Jersey Journal
on September 04, 2009 at 4:40 PM, updated September

The FBI paid a visit to Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy one day before the July 23 FBI corruption sweep in which 44 people were arrested, Jennifer Morrill, the mayor's spokeswoman, confirmed today.

Reports of the FBI visit to Healy was first reported in The Jersey City Reporter earlier today.

Although Morrill confirmed the visit, she said the mayor refused to disclose what was discussed, citing an ongoing investigation. Michael Drewniak, spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office also refused to comment.

The FBI arrested 44 people -- including 23 from Hudson County and seven who were Jersey City employees -- on corruption charges on July 23.

Healy has not been charged with any crimes, but he has acknowledged meeting with FBI informant Solomon Dwek at least twice, in meetings that included Edward Cheatam, a Hudson County affirmative action officer, political operative Jack Shaw, and Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini, who served as his campaign treasurer.

The federal complaints allege that Shaw -- who died of unknown causes July 28 -- Beldini and Cheatam "arranged for others" to provide checks to the campaign of "JC Official 4" with cash provided by the Dwek. Healy has acknowledged he's "JC Official 4," but says he did nothing wrong.

JJ piece?.

Do you know what date Healy was videotaped and if he was videotaped before or after his Deputy Mayor, Leona Beldini, was videotaped?

Thanks, T-Bird. That means roughly half of all of Jersey City residents are registered voters. Out of all those registered voters, on average, do you know how many of them actually vote in our mayoral election?
