PATH has trash "cans." Its usually the top of the support columns or under the benches.

The whole security-paranoia sham that looms over everything is really sad. Example - the office building at Columbus and Marin with the bollards surrounding two sides of it (along Columbus and Marin.) Really? That building is a target for terrorists when there are easily 500 higher value targets that don't have near the same level of external barriers just across the river? The Grove Street PATH station can't have a trash can when the many subway platforms sitting under Grand Central, Penn Station, Wall Street, etc. do? Because the Grove Street PATH station (or JSQ or Exchange Place, etc.) are much more valuable targets? And the guys with the machine guns at the WTC. Do we really need that? Or is it yet another way for the Port Authority to spend money?

But we live in a 3rd world country where no one obeys rules. What makes you think adding a garbage can will dissuade people from throwing refuse away elsewhere in the station?

BTW, the security reasons are pretty much bullshit. You know who actually lives under constant threat of terrorist activity? Israel. You know who still uses public trash cans in transportation areas?
Israel. They use large concrete cylinders. If they're able to do so "for security reasons", then there's literally zero excuse that the PA can give on this.

No. Installing garbage cans would be a step backwards.
Why would we want to provide a growing food supply to Path rats and mice? LOL, it is 2014. I can't even recall the last time I had garbage not related to food. No food means no need for trashcans.
Reading an actual newspaper or magazine?!? GET WITH THE TIMES. REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE Mending is better than ending!

There should be cans inside.
The stations should accomodate the real world, not fantasy land where no one eats on the train and everyone carries off their AM NY.

I think it's curious that the site implies trash cans are for food. I for one don't eat in the PATH stations/trains since it's not allowed, but on more than one occasion I've had paper, magazines, random stuff that I needed to dispose of.

Garbage cans act as reservoirs for decedent materials. Hasn't 9-11 taught us anything ? Plus PATH has a contracted cleaning company to constantly keep the stations tidy.

The cans should be at every PATH station and every high usage bus stop hub, light-rail platform (which they are) and taxi rank hub - they could include ash trays fitted to the cans as many taxi drivers seem to smoke; gives them a chance to smoke outside their cars while they wait for customers and also customers waiting for taxi's.
They should also have cans at high use multiple bike racks ... and a few more in our parks wouldn't hurt either!
