Ha! Great point.

Kudos to JC for pulling this off so well that we can only complain about the lateness.

Now get to bed already, you hooligans.

Hilarious to see Yvonne and her conservative trolls proven wrong yet again.

i am glad a good time was had by all..but maybe their should be a lateness clause with penalties for failure to perform on time?

Timing a citywide event around the schedule of a man who's been high since 1982 was maybe not the best idea.

After standing around for an extra hour, the weary crowd that just showed up for the fireworks was less than enthusiastic once they finally got underway.

I hope future 4th celebrations start the main event on time, regardless of when the musical act feels like showing up.

He actually didn't go on till 9:30 and did his full show. Why were you at that show anyway, weren't you one of the ones yammering about shootings? Could it be you knew your own words were absolute bs?

Fashionably late though.... Looking at people coming by my home, I think there was a vast over estimation of attendance.

The Jersey Journal

Snoop Dogg isn't the only music sensation that's spending his Fourth of July in Jersey City.

World renowned R&B singer Akon was pictured with his old friend, Mario Costa, owner of Ringside Lounge, located at 475 Tonnele Ave.

Akon ? whose legal name is Aliaume Damala Badara Akon Thiam -- has kept ties with the city since he attended Dickinson High School on Palisade Avenue.

The hip-hop star will be on the #50STAR stage with Snoop around 8:30 p.m. ? located at the foot of Montgomery Street at Exchange Place.

(From the NJ.com article:)

The rap icon is scheduled to hop on the #50STAR stage ? located at the foot of Montgomery Street at Exchange Place ? around 8:30 p.m. and the fireworks are set to go off over the Hudson River around 9:30 p.m.

-------

The Macy's fireworks are on the East River and start at about 9:25pm. They are not on the Hudson River.

NB: PATH service will be suspended all weekend long for the WTC and Exchange Place stops. Service suspension starts at 11:59 PM Friday, and runs until 5 AM Monday.

The PATH experience is going to be interesting... saw them setting up a huge stage @ Exchange tonight... assume they will be checking lighting/sound later. All that at one choke point.

I have seen them shut down access to the platforms to prevent too many people on the platform. Assume by Saturday schedule they mean no direct access from Hoboken... everything goes to Grove.

Sounds weird, but how do you provide security checkpoints at Exchange Place Stop? Unless it is done @ Grove Station?

At least it will all be free so you don't have to pay for this experience

From New York's perspective:

Notification issued 07-03-2018 at 3:00 PM.

There will be a fireworks display over the Hudson River near southern Manhattan tomorrow, 7/4, at approximately 9:30 PM. In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks display will take place on 7/5.

Way more likely it's just the rigidity of Union contracts and shit like that. Think about it, you'd be asking people to work on the 4th that would be working otherwise.

Could very well be a factor... it is just that in most cities/states hosting events like this, all the public agencies step up and increase service levels like providing extra train service... seems like a public safety issue to potentially let thousands linger after an event is over?

Of course NJ Transit did a great job during the Super Bowl hosting... wasn't it like 20000 people stuck in Secaucus Junction after people were encouraged to use public transportation?

The Super Bowl thing was a total debacle.

What someone else mentioned about the crowds streaming out at Exchange Place is definitely a concern once the festival area fills up. They will likely have to stop the escalators, so it will end up being people walking up the steps, or waiting forever to board one of the two elevators.

Not really an option for you, but I'm curious if anyone has taken in the JC fireworks from Manhattan.

Seems like Rockefeller Park would be a good vantage point and as long as you time the WTC PATH correctly it should be a relatively easy in/out.

bump - also looking to see what time Snoop will be on. I stopped by the festival last year (I think it was Kool N the Gang), and they were on towards the end of the night, right before the fireworks. I would assume that Snoop would be on around the same time, but just wanted to make sure.

I'd imagine running a regular schedule on a holiday would cost PATH a ton of cash in holiday overtime. I'm sure Steve wouldn't offer to pick up the extra cost.

I will be surprised if the festival goes off without a fight or other "disruptions". Thankfully, temperatures are not expected to exceed 85 degrees. But, that much people in such a small area is a recipe for disaster. Sadly, the state of the pier after these events is usually a mess of litter and discarded bottles. And, with the PATH running a weekend schedule on Wednesday, I foresee near gridlock and lots of people frustrated before they even get to the event.

By Adrienne Romero | The Jersey Journal

The hottest ticket in town this week is the Jersey City festival and fireworks show -- and it's free. With Snoop Dog as the headline musical guest at the Exchange Place event (noon to 10 p.m.), the city expects to double the 100,000 people who attended last year.

With that big of a crowd expected, here are 10 things you should know for an optimal experience.

Where to go for the Fourth in Hudson County

With the Fourth of July just days away, it's time to decide how you will celebrate.
Whether your day includes a trip to the beach, a backyard barbecue, or something else, enjoying some local fireworks should be on your agenda.
Here's where you can see fireworks and enjoy the July 4th festivities in and around Hudson County over the next few days:

Jersey City
The city's fifth annual Fourth of July festival will take place Wednesday at Exchange Place from noon to 10 p.m. The show will feature a carnival, beer gardens, food trucks, and will be headlined by rap star Snoop Dogg. The day's festivities will culminate with a fireworks show by world-renowned fireworks company Grucci.
The Rooftop at Exchange Place (1 Exchange Place) will have a Fourth of July party Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. Guests can view the Jersey City fireworks while enjoying a an open bar, live DJ, and more. Purchase tickets at eventbrite.com.
The Community Uplifting Project-Community Garden is hosting its first free community BBQ on Wednesday at 612 Communipaw Ave. and is inviting all to attend. It will be a gathering place for families with free food and games. The party begins at noon and will end at 5 p.m.

Was just looking closely at public transportation options in and out of Paulus Hook for the 4th.

Looking at the PATH it said they will be running their Holiday Schedule for an expected 200K people???? LOL

The weekend schedule barely moves people from Point A to Point B in a timely manner.

Two real questions about this event.

1. Anyone know what time Snoop will actually perform? Feel like it would be later in the day but really have no clue. 2. Is this clear bag thing real? I don't own one and will need to have a purse or something with me. Will they not let you in if you just have your everyday bag? Thanks!
