Re: 4th of July in JC @ Exchange Place - Featuring Snoop Dog

Two real questions about this event.

1. Anyone know what time Snoop will actually perform? Feel like it would be later in the day but really have no clue. 2. Is this clear bag thing real? I don't own one and will need to have a purse or something with me. Will they not let you in if you just have your everyday bag? Thanks!

The amount of trash in the Heights is bananas! We also pick up trash from our front area constantly. We just don't understand why it always seems to pile up.

But from one Heights neighbor to another - thank you! We also planted a tree in front when we moved in. Anything to hide the millions of power lines.....

Not the most exciting topic, but we need someone who can #1 - repair a broken window (glass broke over the winter) and #2- guve us an estimate on putting in a larger window where there is a small one now. Any recommendations are appreciated! T

Yeah - we looked into this already. Don't think that we have flow issues. Just shitty construction issues. Thanks though!Quote:

Not a loft but we do have high ceilings on the first floor (where the vents are located) and an open stairwell to the 2nd floor which is where all the heat immediately goes to.

Pronti Construction Issues
#6
Quite a regular

We bought a new construction condo in the Heights last year that was built by Pronti Construction. Not only were they absolutely awful to deal with, but they did a pretty crappy job on a few things and lied to us a lot. Most issues we fixed ourselves, but there is 1 major one that is creating a lot of issues right now.

We have two floors with the first being ground level. Our first floor is so cold during the winter that we need to have space heaters on (when we don't people actually have to wear puff coats while inside) which is just frustrating since this is brand new construction. Here are the shoddy design issues that we are facing:

1. One heating system controls both floors and is located on the 2nd floor

2. Ground floor is tile built on a concrete slab (no basement) so the floor is freezing. (we do have an area rug in our living room area).

3. All vents on the 1st floor are located on the ceiling and the heats just goes straight upstairs

During the winter, we close all the vents upstairs to try to push more heat downstairs, but still need to have space heaters on downstairs while we crack windows open upstairs since it is so hot.

We have now lived here for more than 1 year so the new construction warranty is over. We have had contractors come over to look at installing radiant heat in the floors but not only is it crazy expensive but we are unable to do it since it will raise the floor 1 inch and our kitchen appliances and counter cannot accommodate that. And I hate the idea of spending a lot of money when we just bought a house that shouldn't be causing us issues because it is new!

Summary. I hate Pronti so much and needed to publicly vent in case any one else is dealing with them (and if you are looking in the Heights there is a good chance that you are). One would think that a company who builds things would actually know how to build things.

Also, I also would appreciate any ideas of how to fix if you have them!

No parking due to moving issues

We put up signs yesterday on Mercer St between Varick and Monmouth that we bought at the parking authority that say no parking - we are moving today and will have a truck. There are two cars in the spaces that we designated - if they do not move their cars we will end of blocking Mercer St. and making it a no access street while we load. I tried calling the parking authority but they do not have a weekend hour line. What are my options here? Do I call a tow company? Feel like a jerk but we need these people to move.....

Thanks. Based on this map, there are no jitneys that go through the Heights by Riverpark into NYC. Just to Newport mall. Am I reading that correct? Bummer....

Not sure if this has been addressed elsewhere but I figured I would ask...

I will be moving from DT to the Heights by Riverview Park. I work in the city and am trying to figure out the commute. I know that I can jump on the NJ Transit bus to get to the Hoboken or JSQ path station. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to find info on the jitney buses that go to Port Authority. Can anyone help me to find info on where and when the buses pick up from? I know that there are set hours that they run - info on that would be helpful as well!

Thanks!

I have lived on Mercer and Varick for the last 6 years and LOVE it but my husband and I recently bought in the Heights by Riverview Park. We were looking at buying vs renting and the prices downtown are just crazy. I am very sad to leave Mercer St, but think that the Heights will be the next area to really increase in value. You can get a lot more there for the money and I think that they will really start to build a lot now that the area has been rezoned. It is definitely not as pretty as DT or has as much around it, but I feel that it will get better. I will be commuting into the city each day and will either take the bus to the path or the jitney's into PA (haven't figure out which is better).

It will be an adjustment to life in DT but I really think that it will be a great investment. The reservoir just got funded to become an amazing park in a few years, Washington Park seems to have everything (dog runs, huge playground with a water section, basketball courts, etc) and the views from that part of town are great.

Are there any Middle Eastern grocery stores close to JC? I do not want to have to drive to NYC/ Queens/Brooklyn, but would drive in NJ if needed. Looking for a Middle Eastern type (Turkish, Egyptian, Israeli, etc) to pick up spices and other items like lebni, baba ganoush, etc. Was just at an amazing market in Cambridge, MA and bought the most delish food and want to be able to get it at home!

New York Sports Club - Exchange Place

Got this email from NYSC yesterday - even if you are not a member, they will let you charge up, work out and shower for free if you were affected by Sandy. They just ask that you bring your own towel. I think that this is great and am really surprised that more gyms didn't do this. I went to the NYSC at Exchange Place today and a lot of people were there using the facilities and charging their stuff - definitely go if you don't have power and you can get there easily.

"We hope that you are safe in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. We wanted to let you know that we are working hard to get every NYSC club open and operating normally. Please call your club or visit MySportsClubs.com for the latest info before you visit.

ALL NYSC members are granted Passport Privileges

Until we get back on our feet, all NYSC members have privileges to use any club, at any time, at no additional cost.

Our doors are open to help anyone impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

All of our clubs are opening their doors to Hurricane Sandy victims allowing full use of our facilities. If you need to take a hot shower, charge your cell phone, or recharge your body with a stress-melting workout, our club is your club. Tell a friend. All we ask is that nonmembers bring a towel.

In the wake of the storm, we?re committed to providing a safe workout environment for all of our members. We appreciate your patience while we restore our facilities to working order."

Any good recomendations for a contractor for installing sod? I have a small yard (about 250 sq feet) and this is the first year that our grass is not growing back. Would ideally like to hire someone who will also prep the yard before installing the sod. Thanks!

Went there last night and was really dissapointed. The bread is awesome but it went downhill from there. The mussels weren't good and tasted fishy, the side of sausage was still frozen (we sent that back), the meatballs were fine but tasted like ones that you could get from the store. The lasagne was fine. Nothing to write home about. Really wanted to like this place and won't bother going there again. Well, unless I wanted to eat only the bread. I thought that the reviews on yelp were probably overly dramatic, but they were actually pretty dead on.

Actually my dogs are great with people and kids. They are especially great with my 1 yr old niece as well. :)

Only one of my dogs can sometimes be dog aggressive, but not always. He was actually great when the little white dog attacked him and was just trying to back away while barking and warning the pest.

Not all dogs can be great with other dogs. It doesn't make them horrible pets, but it does require you to be a responsible pet owner. Nothing wrong with that!

I have friends that are not good with meeting new people, but once you get to know them you love them. It doesn't mean that I won't hang out with them with other people, it just means that when I take them to a party, I hang out with them until they feel more comfortable on their own. By your theory, my friends should never be let out of the house. Or kept on a leash that they can't bite through.

I used to live in HP and have had issues with that lady. One of her unleased dogs ran up and attacked one of my leashed dogs. While I was not concerned with my dog since he is a pit/rottie mix and hers was the size of his tail, I was extremely concerned that my dog would kill her dog. When I finally broke them up, I explained to her that she needed to leash them to prevent them from getting eaten by larger dogs and she yelled at me instead. When I explained that I know that MY dog could be aggressive and that it why he was leashed and that she needed to do the same, she essentially told me to f- off. It is actually amusing that I learned to avoid her pack of mini dogs when I walked my two pitbulls. :)

I have a ground floor apt with a private yard and found it through craigslist. I looked at a few before I settled on my current place, but to my memory most may have had a stair or two to get in. You may be able to find one, but your best bet may be to look on CL. good luck!

I take the path from Grove to 33rd every day and yes, it sucks! I had no problems today right before 9 am but my friend had major issues just after 9 and didn't make it to work until almost 11!

And yes, I sign up for path alerts and received NO emails about this at all. Very helpful!

I don't think that animal control has any type of logging system - when they came to my house I was surprised that there was no paperwork involved at least on my end.

When I spoke to the reporters as well, I know that they were asking me a lot of questions in regards to animal control logging the cat in and they were surprised as well that I didn't have to sign anything when they left.....
