Cops do not inherently deserve respect. They have to earn it. You don't get respect through corruption or by painting lines on our streets.

Who painted/approved the lines? Terrence, can you please investigate?

From what I have researched this practice was started in 2015 by home owners. They painted blue lines on curbs to show their support for the police. This was done as a response to the negative publicity aimed at the police after the recent string of shootings involving police officers. It may have been adopted by municipalities but it is not an "us against them" demonstration as is kencares suggested.

Painting the curb blue means that it is a handicapped spot. It is also illegal.

You must not pay much attention to our biased media. Cops have been under siege, both literally and figuratively.

Media Bias!!!!! Oh no!!!! How do you get out of bed in the morning being so much a victim?

The media is so super liberal that they are pointing out how the cops are under attack...

Try going without the police and let's see how long you last. It's a shame you have all this resentment towards those who keep you safe. Try to break out of your liberal brainwashing.

But I'm happy to see these lines honoring those who actually deserve it so thanks for calling this to our attention.

As mentioned before, nobody was forced to take a job in police work. People made the choice to become a cop with the full understanding that every time they leave their house could be their last. I certainly appreciate when the police do their jobs, but I would not call them a hero for doing it. To me a hero is someone who goes above and beyond their normal roles.

"You see, there are people who believe that the function of the police is to fight crime. And that's not true: the function of the police is social control and protection of property." ~ Micheal Parenti

Politics aside, how can they get so much of this red/blue paint down but there are unpainted crosswalks and stop signs all over the city?

The blue line was invented to promote support for our police. Public sentiment is waning thanks to the media sensationalizing police shootings. Whether you believe it is warranted here in Jersey city or not it started as a noble cause.

The thin blue line represents police corruption. "You don't cross the thin blue line" whether a cop is right or wrong. We have a serious problem with corrupt police in Jersey City and these lines painted on our streets represent a flagrant resistance to change for the better.

Coffee with cops: good but dumb. Blue lines on our streets: bad and dumb.

Who did/approved this?

And if you don't think we have a cop problem in Jersey City, you haven't been paying attention:

No, they are not under siege, except in their own privileged minds. Even with a couple of horrendous ambushes, being a cop isn't even in the top 10 of most dangerous jobs. Being a roofer or cab driver is more dangerous. They just like to play it up so no one can negotiate aggressively with them at contract time.

Can we hold off on this outrage.... I do not think we ever settled the rabble rousing about the confederate flag flying in Liberty State Park.... or did I miss the memo where we have moved on from that foolishness.

Says who? Some liberals? It's a great thing to honor those who deserve it. Sorry you have this sort of resentment towards the heroes who serve our communities every day.

Why does it bother you? I think it's a great sentiment. About time we start honoring those who deserve it.
