We've only been married a few months now. We had dated a few years ago after meeting at a wedding, but parted ways. We reconnected almost two years ago and this time it went very well. When talking before the date, she said she liked good pizza and ice cream, so I took her to Razza and then for a stroll to Torico. She never had a chance. Quote:
Agreed. I always ask for an upstairs table. It's quieter, with less foot traffic, and is a cozier.

I would suggest asking for a table in the second level. It is a half floor that overlooks the front area of the ground floor. It is a bit quieter up there, and more intimate because you have less foot traffic from other patrons.

Ask them for a quiet corner in the back.

I'm leaning towards Satis. I like their menu. Any particular table or area of the restaurant I should request? Though it's getting late already. Thanks.

BROA is fantastic. I've been there 3 times in 2016 alone. Love the food and BYOB.

Razza has been open for only about 2 years, right? Wow, you move fast if she is your wife already and that was your first date!

Broa is quite romantic with european charm and price point is very reasonable.

Satis is fine for conversation, and the food is on par with Porto Leggero, if not a bit better if you like some of their dishes, like the pork shank or whole bronzino. The tables are a bit cozier though, and it's a bit more dimly lit, which helps with the mood.

Thanks for some great suggestions!
I totally spaced and forgot that Saturday is also my birthday. So I'll allow myself to spend a little more. At this point, it's a tossup between Satis and Porto Leggrero. I never ate at Satis but have eaten at and enjoyed Porto Leggrero. I know Porto Leggrero is conducive for conversation, but is that the case with Satis?

I vote Satis - I think you can do it for $50 a head if you try. I love Razza too, but you don't want to have to wait for an hour on a first date.
Good luck!

Bottle of Red, Bottle of White -- and Margherita's on Washington Street in Hoboken. 2-blocks from that lovely Sinatra Park. It's just cozy and romantic in there, especially the tables in the windows, and the food is old-school Italian yummy

Well, if I ever had a first-date opportunity again and my prospective beau packed a lovely hamper with dainty sandwiches and other delicious treats, and we sat by the river (one of my favorite places) and talked - and maybe read from really old books - I'd think I'd be so impressed...

Madame Claude. It's BYOB and you can have an amazing, romantic dinner for under $100. It's low lighting and candlelit french cuisine. Doesn't get more romantic than that!

I took my wife to Razza for our first date, and she loved it. You can get a decent meal there for under $100 for two. Add about $10 to $15 per head, and you would be good at Satis, which is one of my favorites as well. At that price, Porto Leggero and Batello are also options.

Kraverie is a touch far, but doable. Mantra is a nice enough place. Markers is surprisingly decent, altho the atmosphere is more power lunch than romantic date spot. Directly there on the waterfront, however. Teppan ain't bad, either.

For $50 bucks, you might want to go BYOB, Presto's might work for you if you go later at night (after the families eat).

Personally love GPs and Battello. Neither are within your budget or distance to the waterfront (hmm maybe Battello has a walking area), but the food is pretty decent at both. If you want a "nice" dinner spot, you could also go to Satis or Light Horse Tavern. I personally LOVE Satis but both are great spots close to the Paulus Hook waterfront.

If we are talking walking distance to waterfront, then you may want to focus on the Paulus Hook area.
Maybe Satis Bistro?

Romantic restaurant, 1st date?

It's been asked before, though the last thread wandered aimlessly off course almost immediately. So, apologies in advance to bring this up again, and Dan, feel free to merge this, though I know i don't have to tell you that.
I'll also blab another moment to say it's embarrassing to ask about this. I should know! I've lived in JC 15 years, work in the restaurant biz and am a "retired" foodie. However, there's been lots of new restaurants opening in the last couple of years and I know nothing about them. The last places I ate at were Lighthorse Tavern (too loud) and Skinner's Loft (an option). Ideally I'd like to find a place within walking distance to the waterfront with an average cover of about $50 give or take, which would include a bottle of wine. It should be quiet so one can carry on a conversation without screaming (which seems to rule out most places) and perhaps a little romantic. It will be on a Saturday night. Thanks.
