Wow thanks for the warning I am crossing it off of my list of places to eat.
Gee I never realized what a problem we have in this country with food poisoning.

I Googled the below popular food sources followed by food poisoning and could not believe the pages of results.
Chipotle, Applebee?s, Joe's Crab Shack ,Whole Foods, Shake Shack, Trader Joes , Houlihan's ??

I am going to stop eating out and may even start growing my own food?. thanks.

Didn't you get the memo? Fulop showed his support for JC small businesses by banning chain stores downtown. What more do you want from him?

Thanks! Looks like it'll be another month before they open? At this rate they'll probably be open on black Friday with a $2 all you can eat early bird special. lol

Agreed! I stay away from places that promote price and quantity over quality and freshness. You never know if the fish is actually sushi grade.

Serious question: why is everyone so excited about a Chinese buffet restaurant?

Serious answer: because jersey city doesn't have one that's even remotely decent.

Thanks for the answer. And, I get what you are saying. But, I still don't get it. A buffet restaurant strikes me as something most people here would look down upon, given the posts on restaurants and new places. But, somehow, this place, located in a dreary mall, in an inconvenient location for most JC residents, seems to be getting a lot of love and attention.

I personally not that excited about this buffet, but can see why it will be, since jersey city doesnt have one. Not to be debbie downer, i just dont see this buffet have the volume it needs to be successful given the location.

Good buffets need to have a lot of people so they can move volume and keep food fresh, always avoid the buffets with low foot traffic like the plague, because the food will not be good.

In term of looking down on buffets, i think it depends on the setup, most will also look down on a ghetto chinese takeout place etc.. no difference.

I for one love the good buffets, they give decent value for the money and many choices. Some of the best buffets also cost upward $100 a person.

The best ones i had are all in shanghai, where there are 3-4 months wait to even get a weekday dinner reservation like peter lugers here lol, also cost $150+ pp. Vegas has some decent choices as well.

Yes, I have been to the better ones in Vegas, where you are paying upwards of $50 per person, for lunch, but I don't think you can possibly compare this place in HM with a place like the buffet at the Wynn Hotel. That seems like a real stretch. But, like I always say: to each their own. Definitely not for me.

It seems to me that any addition to HM falls in the category 'can't hurt' and an Asian themed buffet falls in my special category 'eh, why not?'

I think the Asian supermarket helped get the area some much needed business and shows there is some hope for HM yet. And yeah, people do live near the area believe it or not and would rather not have to go too far for such business.

I'm excited for it. Sometimes I just need to shove ten pounds of assorted world cuisine into my face.

It is also showing how hard it is to start a business in this city. The city makes no effort to help make things a little easier, not ignore regulations, but to help guide them in the right direction quickeer.

Best buffet i had is at Tokyo Hibachi and Buffet in secaucus, place doesn't look like much but they have the freshest crab legs and seafood, also lobster for dinner. Plates are always refilled, and most food there are very decent.

The most overrated buffet is ichi umi by korea town in the city, their raw seafood is ok, but everything else is crap, and cost twice as much, even though it seems like a lot of dishes, half of them are nothing more than veggie fillers and chicken.

The queens area large buffets are somewhere in the middle, okie for the price.

Walked by today Sunday 8/23/15 yes still no action and dust is starting to cover everything inside. A security guard said mall management told him it will open in 3 weeks. Sad.. I posted on 7/3/15 that the workers said 2 to 3 weeks. I would love to know what the hold up is...not only because I am hungry but I thought JC businesses were going to have an easier time opening.

I've said it before, but if Fulop actually cared about JC small businesses, he would work on cutting the red tape. Not implementing headline-grabbing actions such as banning chain stores from downtown.

It has got to be soon everything looks set up inside. They even have napkin holders and s & p shakers on the tables.

The Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet in the Hudson Mall has the black coverings off of the windows. The place is massive looks it like it took over 3 old/vacant stores . Nice addition to the mall. As far a buffet joints go the interior is really beautiful. It has different seating areas with cool lighting in each. The guys working inside on 7/3/15 said they will open in maybe 2 to 3 weeks.

Oh yeah their below website is now working?.

http://hibachigrilljc.com/

PS ? I think it will be a step up from the old Wok n Roll ?brown stuff?.

7/4/15: ?Hostess Want? sign on the door it also says ?come in take application?.

They are finishing up the cool space age lighting.

As for how they can turn a profit while charging $7.99: the same way that nail salons are turning a profit charging $10, or less. They must be underpaying their employees, if they are being paid at all. In between paying rent, mall fees and commissions, stocking the necessary food items to prepare the wide variety of options, utilities, and employees, I doubt that they could break even charging those prices, let alone turn a profit.

They probably use lower priced ingredients, I'd be wary of any type of sushi that is not the top grade of fish. The price for beverages and other add on items is probably higher. The rate they turn the tables is faster than at a place with waiter service.
