Another piece of the yard, at Flushing Avenue and Navy Street, will be carved out for a 74,000-square-foot Wegmans supermarket, in an area known as Admiral?s Row, which is lined with sagging 19th-century houses overgrown with vines. Most of the decrepit houses will be razed, despite efforts to preserve them, and in the process graffiti-marked walls barricading this corner will also come down.

The above paragraph was taken from an article in the NYT about the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Maybe Wegman's is seeking urban locations.

There are several parking garages dotted around the area but you are going to pay premium prices.

Driving into the city for whole Foods is nuts. You are better off taking the path and walking.

When I first became a Greenvillian I would drive to the Trader Joes in Brooklyn.. OMG that lasted for about a month and got old fast. We would have to park at least 8 blocks away from the store just to find parking. I think Supermarkets like this in New Jersey will only work with parking.

The most absurb lunch lines ever in that Whole Food.

Build it and they will come in droves.

The area around 14th street is exponentially more dense than by JSQ (both in terms of overall people and particularly WF's target demographic). Not to mention it is much, much better served by public transit than JSQ.

I bet they will have sizeable parking. A better comparison is their Newark location, which does have a large parking garage.

I know Boggiano told me he was working on bringing in an upscale store in Journal Square. I prefer Wegmans as my first choice.

99 Ranch market sounds like the Asian Market on 440, but they'll have a lot more space to fill. Though not as much as the late, lamented International Market where Target is now. Could end up a great place to snag lunch as well as groceries if they have a good steam table setup.

Whole Foods Market has recalled one of its organic cheeses sold nationwide over concerns of Listeria contamination.

The Papillion Organic Roquefort cheeses were cut and packaged with Whole Foods scale labels, selling for $19.99 per pound, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday.

Craig McCarthy | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

In an effort to reduce prices in its stores, Whole Foods announced Monday it will cut roughly 1,500 jobs over the next two months.

"We believe this is an important step to evolve Whole Foods Market in a rapidly changing marketplace," said Walter Robb, the co-CEO of Whole Foods Market.

The grocery store chain said in a statement it has added more than 9,000 jobs over the past year and expects many of those affected by the job reduction, which accounts for 1.6 percent for its total workforce, to find employments elsewhere within the company.

The cuts come two months after the grocery chain's brand took a hit in an overcharging scandal at some of its food stores in New York.

They'd have to be nuts, that plaza is irredeemably skanky. The A&P on the other hand is prime. While it may possibly be profitable, though I wouldn't bet on it, selling it (or the lease) will bring in big bucks right now, which probably looks pretty good to the reorganizing A&P.

Sadly, it's too big for TJ's. I vote for a Fairway.

Yeah you're right, reading beyond the headline it looks like they have around 300 stores and want to sell 120 of them to 3 different chains. If that deal is not approved then they are threatening to liquidate.

I also see that Pathmark is a subsidiary of A&P.
I think an upscale chain could transform the old colony plaza.

Do we know whether the JC location scheduled to close? They're not liquidating, just reorganizing under Chap. 11. Given the high prices at that location, I should think it's a big money earner for the company.

EXCLUSIVE: Whole Foods chain faces city probe after investigators found ?worst case of overcharges?

BY SARAH RYLEY , REUVEN BLAU NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Tuesday, June 23, 2015, 9:17 PM

Rip-off on aisle four.

The city has launched a probe of Whole Foods Markets after investigators nabbed the upscale food purveyor for routinely overcharging customers on groceries during dozens of inspections dating back to at least 2010, the Daily News has learned.

The most recent spate of violations came during a sting operation the Department of Consumer Affairs conducted in the fall that specifically checked the accuracy of the weight marked on pre-packaged products.

No harm no foul, if you want to pay $9 for a bag of Kale go for it. A fool is born daily and why shouldn't someone profit off of them.
