a) Turnpike Alley is great!
b) Cast Iron Lofts, as much as we may all snicker, is nearly full, so obviously, people like what they're selling (renting). c) As for prices people pay living next to projects, in Hoboken, lux places sold for $750K right across the street, FACING, the projects on Monroe street. So, once again, people are willing to make the move?.

You forgot to mention drug dealing businesses in Holland Gardens. The same developer is putting up over 400 more units now DIRECTLY across the street from the Holland Gardens public housing projects. Literally about 50 ft away. How are they going to advertise those units as "Luxury"? lolol

I think if the prospective renters of Sohowest were those who had money to spend/throw away, they would be living in Manhattan. And the people who spend $50 million at least get an experience no one else can get. These people will be chumps, tremendously overpaying for a bad location. But I suppose hourly access to a $70 round trip "exclusive" mode of transportation makes it worth it.

Wow those prices are crazy for such a terrible location, at least they can walk to the Hoboken MCs clubhouse for parties.

Somehow, the developers of this project think their apartment building(s) is in the same neighborhoods of several restaurants in Hoboken, several more restaurants in Manhattan, Amelia's, Park & Sixth, Marco & Pepe and so on. Amazing! I didn't know Hoboken, Manhattan and Jersey City were all in the same neighborhood. The "shopping" in the neighborhood they tout is even more laughable. Oooh! Right by Best Buy, Pier 1, Target and Home Depot. Just a little further to Staples and Modells. Woohoo! Sign me up.

The only business in the Taint worth mentioning is the 14th Street Garden Center.

The 18th street stop seems unlikely to happen, the 2nd street station in Fauxboken is way too close.
I like Turnpike Alley, SoNope as well.

Exactly. There is nothing back there in The Taint. No bars (sorry, I forgot Burkes), no restaurants, no stores (sorry, I forgot the Salvation Army), no mass transit and no easy access to NYC. What it does have is a homeless shelter, a housing project, an interstate off-ramp, several train track overpasses, a flooding problem and a chromium contamination. Essentially all the crummy parts about living in a city, with none of the good. I thought it might at least be cheap, but I see one-bed rentals at Cast Iron Lofts begin at $2,750, which is pretty much the same as the all-in cost for my two-bed condo in Hamilton Park. What a rip - anyone stupid enough to think that is a good detail probably should be paying $15 to ride the short bus into the city.

These guys are betting big on an 18th St HBLR stop.

Just to pile on here, in the "map & transportation" part of the website, where it mentions "Sea" transport, it says "Ferry service originates at both the nearby Pavonia/Newport Terminal and the Hoboken Terminal..." Did they forget that ferry service at Pavonia/Newport is long gone?

I love their "pricing estimate" for 1 way trips into the city, creating the impression that their $15 van is a huge bargain. Says a lot about the demographic they're targeting.

maybe it's a typo:
Schmo Ho? Yo, ho? Ho So? I will continue to call it The Taint - tain't quite JC and tain't Hoboken. I think my name will take hold once the new luxury condo building The Perineum starts construction.

Surprised this is news. There have been two other threads mocking the name, and the faux pretentiousness it puts on display. I can't imagine anyone taking that name seriously, not even the residents living in that no man's land area.

I dont remember a time when Soho had a Home Depot, Best Buy and 12 vacant lots, but hey, I guess theres no ruling about naming a hood whatever you want.
Perhaps we can rename the parking lot of the Hudson Mall "West West Village" and see if that sticks too.

Developers who are trying to down play the whole 'Jersey City, New Jersey" thing. Living in New Jersey is still embarrassing to some people. EDIT: I will now call that area "Turnpike Alley."

I stumbled across the website for sohowest. it is: http://sohowestnj.com/. why not sohowestjc.com?
from branding perspective, i think trying to link with jc would be more effective.
