It was reported they were quashed. Unfortunately, Christie recently announced that the estimated $1.5 billion extension (good luck staying at the estimate) was back on. Several weeks ago, the Port Authority paid $6 million for a firm to "study" how to implement the airport extension.

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2014 ... on_to_newark_liberty.html

So Christie is fine with spending at least $1.5 billion for a useless airport extension. I guess he's also telling the truth that overnight PATH service should be eliminated for an annual savings of $10 million, or .6% of the cost of the airport extension.

Thank you for the update. I had missed that.

The biggest issue with this is that it will affect those that need it most. There are people that work late shifts, getting paid menial wages that use this transportation. Sure, I can afford Uber or a cab if I so choose. However, those working these awful hours are the ones harmed the most.

It is a garbage move from a man that is acts like the human version of trash.

This is all politics. Its not a real proposal.

1. Its a response to Fulop's lawsuit for $400 million in back taxes.
2. Its a response to the state legislatures voting to restructure the agency while diminishing the power of both governors.
3. Its a shake down for campaign contributions from real estate interests in NJ, many of whom also have a presence in NY.

If this was a real proposal, the real estate developers would be shutting down development on half finished towers rather than continuing to throw good money after bad.

Perfectly stated.

This is all bullsh*t and even the title of this thread is misleading. The Port Authority released a 99 page report proposing several changes across the board and the PATH overnight service change is just one idea of many that was FLOATED. Neither governor singled out PATh and no service change is approved or even pending, so everyone needs to relax.

This has no basis is reality and is politics at its best. All parties involved are scheming and are pushing back at each other to promote hidden agendas.

At the end of the day public transportation is vital and therefore is heavily subsidized. The MTA loses money as does the PATH and just about every other public transportation entity. This is nothing new so the the fact they mention potential savings of 10 million is a joke and a drop in the bucket when you look at the big picture.

Fulop and Zimmer are already pushing back and the banks and developers will do so behind the scenes. The 24/7 PATH service is critical and as Hudson County continues to grow, service needs to increase, not decrease. A new station is coming to Harrison and Christie's buddies have development contracts for the surrounding neighborhood that will depend on PATH so just keep that in mind. Nevermind the WTC Hub that cost 4 billion and is almost complete. 10 million, really??

What we really need is for PATH to be classified as an Urban Transit System just like the NYC Subway so that it will be eligible for additional federal funding. This could be a ploy to get just that......

Ignore Monroe's pathetic attempts at distraction and deflection.

Focus on the fact that Christie approved and advocates for a $1.5 billion PATH extension to Newark Airport, obviously not caring about the cost. But he expects you to take him at his word that overnight service should be eliminated for an annual savings of $10 million, or .6% of his airport extension.

That's how you know he's even more full of it than usual.

cutting night and weekend service would not save that much money.....i am hoping that this a gambit to transfer path to nj transit so that the system can receive federal tax funds...perhaps fares have to rise.

I don?t live in New York, but you?ll see that I wrote his motivation. The PATH doesn?t benefit him. He wants residents to fill out all those new towers and buildings. Those that can?t afford Manhattan can live in the outer boroughs or even Long Island. His opinion is that of the typical New Yorker, simply that he could give a flying fig if New Jersey residents are screwed.

With Cuomo, I at least understand his motivation. Screwing those in Jersey could benefit him. With Christie, he?s simply screwing his own residents.

Maybe it is because I?m not some bitter, fat person. I just simply don?t understand intentionally trying to F over a portion of people simply based on their voting record. It?s a petty-small man action.

1. Can't the governors' vetos be overridden?

2. Could closing a mass transit link for six (?) hours in this part of the world violate any clean air acts at the state or federal level?

Cuomo views this as a nuisance. Shutting the PATH at night means more people stay in NY or become New Yorkers. Christie is a POS. You state that he?s doing this purely out of spite to the Democratic voters and you?re probably right. No wonder so many people easily believe (and could possibly be right) that Christie had the GWB shutdown to screw with a mayor.

When governors act righteously, they hold televised news conferences at noon. When they act deviously, they issue written statements on Friday evening and scurry home for cover.

But when they act indefensibly, and sink into the company of serpents and snakes, they make their move on Saturday night of Christmas weekend, hoping the odor passes before the new week begins.

I think it is a big FU to JC & Hoboken with 2 Democratic mayors that refused to endorse the fat guy during his last reelection campaign. It's part of his policy of revenge if he doesn't get what he wants.

We all function now as a twenty four hour society. This proposal is sheer asininity. We can all chatter about budgets of PATH and the MTA but the bottom line is this must not happen. The city and developers tell us to use mass transit and lo & behold the PA wants to take it from us. The hours between 1 and 5 AM are critical to us all. Forget theatre and dining afterwards, forget the workers who can't get home. There must be arising up of all who share the common bond of needing this nocturnal service. Cuomo & Christie are just highlighting their sheer lack of knowledge of what is happening in the real world.

It was bad enough reading that Christie and Cuomo were vetoing the reforms of the PA. But now floating the idea of reducing PATH service ?! WTF !!!

We all know that Christie is a piece of sh*t but Cuomo has really been a disappointment. Progressive, I think not.
