I work a few blocks away from the NYC spot on the LES and when I question about JC they laugh. They pretty much hate the jc crowd... hmmmm I wonder why?

Just order your food and step to the side bitch.

Why is it that every time someone brings up that JC vs NYC quote no one ever mentions that before they wrote it someone here started bashing their kid amidst a bunch of other shit talking?

As for Yelp, what did the fat lady say? Maybe she wrote a stupid review complaining about how she couldn't save a table for ten when it was just her and a friend.

I'm a big Taqueria fan as well but I read the following on Yelp shortly before Hurricane Sandy.

"I wrote a bad review about this place and the manager(PHIL B.) had the nerve to write me back calling me "chubby/fat" and said that I should just eat somewhere else. This place cannot handle bad reviews. Instead of taking the advice from our reviews and making the place better, they choose to shoot insults at people. I reported him to Yelp. Also I later found out that some one else had written a bad review a while ago and this was what the manager wrote on http://www.jclist.com

"taqueria downtown is so busy and runs well enough on its own, so we can focus on taqueria LES. Can't even tell you the difference in class in the clientele in NYC than that in Jersey. So don't worry, it's just a matter of time before we close the jersey store.""

I wonder if the prolonged closing is merely a strange coincidence or the owner wanted this all along. Does anyone know where the thread is that the reviewer is referring to? The review is still there if you wanted to check.

Clumps - try the Grove Cart carnitas for a fix. no substitute, but it's not bad. Pretty good roast pork flavor. The rest are 'meh'...

Yeah, can we get on this and open now? I've been ordering from that Viva Mexicano place in the meantime & it's not helping my withdrawal symptoms. It's like walking into a methadone clinic and getting handed six Tylenol.

Yo for reals if I don't get a Chorizo taco soon I may have to turn to religion for strength. And I don't think Jesus ever made a good Cecina taco.

Guacamole is a Mexican thing. Fajitas are a Texas/southwestern thing.

I love Taqueria, but I have to ask. Not one, but FOUR new tacos, and still no chicken?! I'm very curious, is there a reason? Every taqueria I have been to in Mexico, California, and Texas has had a minimum of one chicken taco.

(And frankly don't you think a chicken taco would sell better than a stomach taco or a head taco?)

Unless the clean-up/refurb just isn't worth it, I do not see how they walk away from JC. It's a cash cow (presumably).

Per previous posts, I wonder if any of JC's annoying internet warriors are going to harass them in NYC

I've enjoyed Taqueria over the years and am sad to see the destruction caused by Sandy to so many businesses. There is however another Taqueria that my husband and I found a few weeks back on Morris Street btw Van Vorst & Warren called Viva Mexico Kitchen Cafe. Small place, byob- we really enjoyed our food--if you're having a craving...check them out. I do not in any way, shape or form know them or work for them! Just really liked what we had and liked the family run aspect of it--enjoy!!

Yeah, I was at the LES joint on Saturday night, and there was a 45 minute wait to be seated.

I was at the NYC location last night. Full place, and people waiting on line. He's got the Taco thing down pat. Hopefully he opens up shortly. I eat in all the best NYC restaurants, but don't want to go over for tacos only. It's great to have a liquor license, until you have to sit next to someone who has had enough.

I don't know -- people in Manhattan seem to say the same things as people here on JCList -- seems to indicate something or other....

Why would they come back? They've made a big success for themselves in Manhattan now. Why come back to a city that constantly complains about how they run their business? If I were in their position I would take the insurance money from the hurricane and make a clean break.

TacoTruck: have a heart... let us know if you are ever coming back?

Seeing your NYC spot referenced on Serious Eats recently is salt in the wound.

Every day that goes by without a Chorizo taco is like a day without sunshine.

I should probably load up on Tums now since I don't plan on eating anywhere else for three weeks once they reopen.

I'm pretty sure Edwards was up for sale even before Sandy hit.
