Sound exactly like this bar/tasting room on Bay St. I think over the past 8 months I've seen people actually working maybe 5 times.

What storefront on Bay Street is this bar/tasting room attempting to open in?

150 Bay next to CKO Boxing.

The GC on that job represents himself as someone who understands the "system" in the building department. Perhaps with the change in administration he's not as effective as he once was.

I recall earlier this year while watching a basketball game at the tilted kilt I sat next to and talked to a guy who said he was opening a bar on Newark ave and it would be called monty's bar. He was probably in his 30's and had some big ideas for the place. He kept going on and on about what he wanted to do and kept saying that he doesn't care how much money he spends as long as its done right because jersey city needed something like this. maybe this is the reason why it's taking so long.....but then again he had about 7 or 8 jameson on the rocks in the hour I was talking to him.

We posted in early September on some of these newer establishments on the our site, including Monty's Bar and WORD. Hope it is helpful. No real updates since though.

WORD has been doing a sidewalk sales on occasional weekdays though, so maybe someone there would have some info on opening date.

I usually assume when something takes this long that the problem is the Construction Code Office

The construction on Hudson Camera seems like it's barely progressed in a year. Over the summer when the front was open occassionally and you could see in it looks like it's incredibly slow going. It's starting to look like the WTC might beat them to opening. Is it possible that JC permits are really this restrictive or is soemthing else (running out of money?) to blame.

I'm also curious on Word. They were originally supposed to open in July, then September, now it's almost November and nothing from them. Nothing on their Facebook page, etc. They don't even have the excuse of waiting on liquor permits and such.

Like the previous poster I'm starting to wonder if either of these places are gonna happen.

Meanwhile, the new burger bar was open just months from Greek to Me closing but I guess they have the advantage of that already being a restaurant space.

Hey JClist, just wondering if anybody has heard anything about Monty's Bar? It has been under construction for, I'd guess, almost 2 years now? And is still seemingly VERY far from completion.

Yup, that does sound pretty cool. I have no info on when they're hoping to open, but it looks to be a long way off. My guess would be at least 6 months based on what I saw when I last peaked in.

That sounds great. Nice change of pace from the usual Miller Lite banners. Any word on when it will be opening? It seems like the progress has been very slow going.

'uge friggin' space. looks nice, will be interesting to see what they serve up. That location should clean up, so they could easily focus on volume ahead of quality.

Has anybody peeked into Monty's Bar? Looks like they are building some sort of lofted space from about 8' high upwards. Unless that is where the bar is going to go? Not sure, but it looks like work has picked up there once again.

Dunkin Donuts is relocating to the corner of Grove and Columbus, and so *supposedly* when that happens the resturants in Grove Pointe will get going.

Might try out Roman Nose this weekend, looking forward to it for sure.

Has work been going on at Monty's Bar? Seems to be dragging...

How about the space between Dunkin Donuts and Duane Reade?

Would be good to have a couple of new bars in the area.

FYI- I walked past The Roman Nose yesterday. They had a sign outside, that read that they would be open today.

The Italian restaurant across from Hudson Camera is called The Roman Nose.

I absolutely adore Italian American food, but was kind of hoping for something a bit more original. Anything is better than empty, though!

Okay, I'll upgrade the quality of his information to B+. No A or even A- since he said it was a chain. I usually avoid Grove because Grand Sichuan enables my Ma Po Tofu addiction, so didn't see the sign myself.

That source must have been pretty good. There is a sign right in front ! And, it is not a chain.

Come on now !

Also heard, from a not terribly reliable source, that a Mexican restaurant (a southern chain) is opening up across from Grand Sichuan in the old textile store.

Monty's Sports Bar is apparently the name of the bar that's replacing Hudson Camera at 130 Newark Ave.

Dunkin donuts is moving to the corner of grove and columbus, where the mini mart/luncheonette place was....that was confirmed by one of the construction workers...
