Actually with the downtown tax abatement bonanza thats been going on for years, property taxes don't grow on new construction either!

Yeah, Reagan tore that wall down with his bare hands, like a bumbling God with lots of strength. None of the previous presidents had anything to do with it.

The city had nothing to do with the recent removal of trees in Van Vorst Park. The removed trees posed a safety hazard to people that use the park. Parkman had the trees inspected and had the trees removed and then planted other trees nearby to replace them.

JC was removed from the USDA-APHIS ALB regulated areas in 2008 because in their terminology, the ALB had been eradicated. If the city had removed the trees, that would involve the city actually recognizing that there was a problem and then actually doing something about it.

Mostly the tree cutting is due to the city allowing contractors to cut down all and every tree in their way all in the name of misguided progress. Some architect, designer, planner creates a majestic looking rendering of what an area with new trees, and then in JC fashion, the city wastes money with project mismanagement.

The best example is cutting down the few trees that actually were growing on Newark with promises of creating a tree lined streetscape only to be told now that trees cannot be planted because of the vaults under the sidewalks. Now we have large ugly pots with pathetic examples of plants lining the poorly laid sidewalks. I'd like to see if we still actually paid for trees.

I'm going back to drinking my morning cup of coffee.

"What is with Downtown Jersey City's war on trees?"

Since JC is losing the war on crime, they wanted to pick a war they could win.

Well, a lot of them ARE LEGAL and willing to work their collective arses off to make it in this country. But, hmmm, how can you tell the legals from the illegals? No real way other than asking ALL brown people, "Papers please." Or is it, "Bitte Papers"?

Sorry, sometimes I forget what country I'm in. What does it matter? Apparently Obama is a Socialist/Fascist/Communist. although there are significant differences in these philosophies. He's a Socicommufascist! I should send that to Sarah Palin!

Good to know the ICE can just make someone "disappear" on nothing but SPECULATION.

Ronald Reagan wanted a wall torn down and he got it done. Now the Republicans/Tea Party members want to build a wall. it would be great if we could find good, cheap non-union labor to build it.

Oh.

The loss of trees is unfortunate. But the fact is that many of the trees here in JC are overgrown and are diseased because they are not meant to be in the city. Parks and Forestry usually tries to replace any tree cut down with something that is more appropriate for the area. They don't always do it, but it is their goal.

I heard that terrorist beetles are replacing the al-qaeda trained monkeys.

If you cut down the trees, the beetles have won.

Yep,

It's almost as if the City is constantly at war with its population...for the last 100 years. It's really a disheartening "take the money and run" scenario.

Trees improve our quality of life, and naturally JC would want to remove them because of this.

Developers cannot collect rent on trees! Cities cannot make them pay taxes.
So we get concrete, bricks, and asphalt. (Unless you live in the Heights where everything must be aluminum sided. )

I often walk past the back are of the JP Morgan/Chase building located on Washington, just when you pass under the Light Rail there are (WERE) some beautiful evergreen trees. They are all now completely gone. WTF!!!!

Why on Earth would anyone deliberately remove these beautiful trees? I've seen so many mature trees just completely destroyed in Jersey City. Why is JC at war with trees?
