Mike Razzoli is the # 1 cause of hardship for any prospective business owners in Jersey City! He is the head JACKASS in the building Dept. I cant believe no one jacked this guy yet! His young cronies are impossible to deal with as well. Remember S""T floats to the top in JC!

Seriously, someone really needs to fix the bureacracy. Sure they didn't have the proper permits. So issue them and be on the way.... get people working.
Not sure what the hold up is.... maybe not enough George Washington's in brown paper envelope perhaps? This is exactly what is wrong with JC and why Newark Ave still looks like CRAP with vacant storefronts everywhere. I wonder how long it will take the former atomic wings to change over to the Bon Chon Chicken place. Hopefully not another two years to open, one year to fail scenario. Ughhh I wanna play donkey kong on a table top set bad. FG

Its the building department. If you have ever been to their office on Montgomery you will know it is full of a bunch of high school drop outs, inbreds and jackasses!!!

Is it bringing hipsters too?
I'll take the arcade only if it got Marvel VS Capcom 2 or Kirby's Adventure (I never seen it at an arcade, but i can dream).

Download Mame and you can play all these old games on your PC.
http://mamedev.org/release.html You then need to find the ROM images of the games you wish to play, many are legally availble on that site and others. Other game ROMs you will need to search for on Bittorrent. Robin.

Please have Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Defender, and TRON...
Oh, and that tank game... I forget the name. Sometimes I wish I had my old Colecovision.

go to dave and busters or any run of the mill arcade place if you want new games. barcade will offer rare classics that are hard to find, but still fun to play and thats what makes it so popular in bk. im glad the owner stuck with that theme and i hope the place does very well.

Plenty of businesses work well in Jersey instead of NY. Mostly because of the taxes. Anywhere you would like to purchase an item of 1000 or more is cheaper in jersey because of the sales tax.
Oh and yeah if i wanted to play crappy arcade games from the 80s and drink i can stay home. Get some good games from i dunno the last 5 years and it might be worth showing up.

Can you give me a few examples of what businesses would work here in DTJC that NYC doesn't have? I like your logic but it seems a little advanced for this present time. There are still many storefronts with nothing in them...it's hard to be so selective when the present number of commercial properties can't even be filled.

Sorry Slacky, I work in NYC and for the most part try my best NOT to shop, drink or eat there. I do of course have drinks and dinner in NYC but I tend to try and stay in JC as much as possible. AND I actually have plenty of friends that like coming to JC to eat and drink. They like going to Tacqueria and the beer garden a lot. Barcade would be another draw from NYC. I for one am sick on Manhattan. Lived there for years. It's full of college kids, D-bags and tourists now. I spend my time either in Brooklyn or Jersey City as do many of my friends. I can afford to live in Manhattan but I choose to live in JC. No NYC income Tax, no NYS mortgage tax when I bought, and I can be on the beach in less than an hour without waiting inline at the Holland Tunnel. This is a great addition to downtown, Newark Ave in particular.

There are, of course, things that people will want to travel to Manhattan for. Jersey City wont be Manhattan.
On the other hand, there are things that I would like to have here precisely so they would be closer to home and I don't have to travel. On certain occasions, I may want to go to a certain restaurant in NYC. On the other hand, many times I just want to go to a nice place to eat. I'd like some more here. I'm not going to regularly go to Williamsburg to have a beer and play video games. On the other hand it would be really nice to have a place like that right here, where I can make a quick stop after work or for a break when I'm at home.

Sure, rest of the class read chapter 2 while I go over this with jaah37. Manhattan is the big draw, very few people are going to travel from Manhattan or Brooklyn to visit Jersey City. Many people that live in Jersey City do so only because it is close to Manhattan, they live here but work and for the most part, shop, drink and eat there. They live here because Jersey City offers them something that Manhattan can't, a lower rent and/or more space. If you want to bring people to Jersey City to spend money you have to offer something the big city doesn't or can't, not the same thing.

I really don't care about trying to be Williamsburg, or Hoboken.
But I love 80s video games. And I like beer. (10 years ago I would have said "and I love beer" but metabolism does have a way of changing). So this place is about as next to perfect as you can get. Build it already.

Yeah? When I cross the Turnpike going WEST, a piece of me dies, because I see a town trying to be Detroit and Compton's love child. Silly crushthedemoniac -- ya know, McGinley Square (and the rest of JC) used to be NICE. You know what? NEIGHBORHOODS CHANGE. You NEED to get into your head that neighborhoods change, in every single city, CONSTANTLY. At the very least, you need to be sensible enough to understand that every city deserves to have a thriving downtown. What JC had before downtown gentrified, was an EMBARASSMENT for a city of 250,000 people. You need to get a clue, man.

The storefront that the Barcade is going into has been vacant for quite some time. There are a few vacant store fronts on Newark Ave that have been vacant for at least a year or more. Isn't it better to have a Barcade at the old WUMU property than nothing? You say that we, or business owners, should be looking at what Jersey City can offer that a big city can't, please elaborate because I have no idea what your talking about.

You've absolutely hit the nail on the head, 100% correct. I couldn't have been more excited for the beer garden to open, a year later wild horses could not drag me there. It's a soulless, sanitized, shithole. An aircraft hanger that serves beer. Instead of edging ever closer to becoming Manhattan/Brooklyn Light maybe we, or business owners, should be looking at what Jersey City can offer that the big city can't.
