calling a 53% victory "kicking ass" does bring to mind GW's 51% "mandate."
but history is written by the winners, so naked drunk guy can call it whatever the hell he wants.

Healy is a joke but nobody came out to tell him that with their vote. so once again, we got the mayor we deserve.

Do you Healy would have done much better in a two-man race against Manzo? I can't see too many Levin, Webb, or Smith supporters voting for Healy. Staying home, probably, but not voting for Healy.

Chet - seriously, I'm awfully disappointed that Healy won, but you have to give him his due. He more than doubled the next candidate and five candidates in the race (even if they weren't all as strong as the top two) is a huge drain on a candidate's ability to get a lot higher than Healy did. (Fulop's results were off the charts - to get more than 60% in a five man race is insane.) Healy certainly had a convincing win. The Manzo showing was surprising - I can't imagine they considered a scenario where they did as poorly as they ended up yesterday.

53% for an incumbent JC mayor with a huge warchest running against a perennial runner-up and several unknowns is weak stuff. That 47% voted for these other candidates means about half the voters voted for Anyone But Healy. But I understand if you don't understand this.

Umm, because 53% of the people DID vote for him. The other 47% was spread among the other candidates.

I'm not sure how anyone can say that an election in which 47% of the voters did not vote for you can be called kicking ass.

So now that the election is over I guess the Newark Avenue project will be put on halt. It was fun while it lasted.

Healy did kick ass and the next 4 years he is the Mayor of Jersey City, nothing we can do about than that now. Jersey City had the chance to make a change..We didn't.
So $3million dollars later, around 16,600 thousand votes @ approximately $180.722 per vote, winning the election...priceless - I guess money can buy you love, or in this case the election. It was kind of funny to read one of the articles in the newspaper that mentioned the strategy the Healy Team had for the election...I guess a $3 million war chest goes a long way, along with very low voter turnout not sure how much strategy you need there....yes we do have to give him the credit for raising that kind of cash, whether we like it or not. We can only hope the Mayor and his administration work as hard at doing their jobs as the did to win the election. Two of the major concerns we really hope gets addressed crime and taxes...Though with regards to taxes, I think down the road people will be furious, sooner or later there is going to be a large tax increase and the citizens of Jersey City will be furious at Healy...There does not seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel regarding taxes as we don't have something like the Honeywell settlement coming in and they will need to get money somewhere. A word to those that did not vote, you have no say when whacked with the tax increase. Hopefully these 4 years go by fast and we get a guy like Steve Fulop as Mayor that would finally be a change in City Hall rather than business as usual in Jersey City. In the meantime it will be up to us citizens to do everything in our power to make the Mayor and the Administration work for us and be accountable. I still believe Jersey City has a good future ahead, while there might not be much we can do about the taxes, we can only hope something can be done about Crime, that at least would help with Jersey City's future. Well at least our mailboxes will be freed up since we won't be receiving anymore election literature..

Will Healy actually fire Comey and all of his chins? Can he be replaced with someone that actually looks like they care about JC?
I think this is a smoke and mirrors show. I see more cops downtown and near the mall than anywhere else in JC - where police are badly needed.

mrasg1 - you're kidding right? fixed? why, because someone you didn't vote for won? because someone won because his supporters cared enough to leave their houses and go vote when all the complainers stayed home and bitched instead?
please tell me you're joking.

Yes, it was fixed. An incumbent mayor who's done a sort of OK job and has been endorsed by the most popular president since FDR won in a very light turnout. Clearly rigged.

So? Was it fixed? Seems like a very high percentage Healy got and just a tad over 51%. What do you all think? How many Cops per precinct does it come out to with the number of Cops Healy added? Does anyone know?

saab - wait till we all get federall screwed on taxes... the deficit that we're all looking at now is 4x larger than it was last year - tax and spend - the cash needs to come from somewhere.
thanks for voting - you're right - not enough people ever vote unless they're voting for american idol. it's not a jersey city thing - it's a national thing - we've raised generations of people who'd rather sit on their asses than get invovled. as for crime - he hired more police during his last term, and is trying to hire more police this time... let's hope he hears the people and either a) fires Comey, and / or b) gets more cops on foot patrol somehow. in the meantime, it's up to communities and FAMILIES to take some damn responsibility for the monsters they're raising... sure, everyone here likes to blame Healy, and it's never "your fault", and the kid arrested or killed with 10 arrests, and 5 convictions was "a good kid"... i don't want to hear it anymore. it starts at home. if people keep raising animals, then yes, crime will go up.

Did anyone else get their tax bills yesterday? Mine came with a letter from Healy informing that he keep my taxes stable with no increase.
Brillant pollitical move. Sending out the tax bills the same day of the election with no increase as all our neighboring towns and cities got whacked with increases this year. Say what you will about Healy, the man know how to play the game. I was happy with my bill.

Watch your taxes go up now, crime will continue to get worse, the school where I voted was a JOKE - but I'm willing to bet that most of you on this site didn't vote yesterday. I did - and I'm pissed that he won. But I can be because I got off my ass and tried to do something about it.

Jerramiah Healy Claims Victory in Jersey City Mayoral Election
. . . Healy's biggest opponent was his own embarrassing history, according to political experts. He was convicted of obstruction of justice and resisting arrest in 2007 for an incident in which he intervened in a dispute outside his sister's Jersey Shore bar. . . Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy was re-elected today -- a first-ballot win in a race with four opponents.
Healy, who at last count had nearly 53 percent of the vote, trounced his closest contender, former Assemblyman Lou Manzo, who had 26 percent of the vote. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... healy_reelected_mayo.html
