I live in a 6 unit condo building and we used Avolar to replace our intercom system. It wasn't working at all. His work was good. There was a problem with one of the intercoms and he worked on it until it was fixed.

I used Dan Harris from Harris Electric in JC for some work in my condo - he was very good. You can Google him for his website.

Get this installed by a telephone guy: http://www.vikingelectronics.com/Products/view_product.php?pid=25

No phone co line needed, all internal to the building and uses the existing phone lines. You can even program entry codes for UPS and such. Locksmiths like Monaco don't even know it exists! I've had it problem free for 8 years, and I didn't even spring for the fancy vandalproof panel, just hung a $5 phone in the entryway.

Hello JC Listers.

Can anybody recommend a good electrician who can install a door intercom / buzzer system.

My condo building is an 8 unit building. The system we had stopped working and needs to be replaced.

I know there are these new phone systems, but I don't want the condo association to have to get a phone line with local and long distance being up to 40 bucks a month.

Thanks.

i saw a couple of good referrals for avolar, but the website isn't working. not a good sign. have they moved to another site, or does anyone have any other electrician recommendations? we need someone who is licensed, insured, certified and retrofitted, because we have a TON of stuff to do (starting with upgrading our service). thanks!

I agree. I had them do some work for me this summer, very professional. One thing to note though is that electricians don't really patch the holes they make in the walls or ceilings. It was fine for me because i was doing some remodeling anyhow, but you need to plan on that part.

So I need to have an electrical outlet installed in it's place (haven't checked yet to see the if the dishwasher is hardwired as well).

Any suggestions for good electricians who do such small jobs?

You better check with your condo association for the building guidelines. How long have you owned this condo, I ask because the building inspector you used when you purchased the condo should have picked up this flaw.

Then find an electrician with a time machine since Bot's post is over a year old. I recommend Mulvey Electric, (732) 469-5797. Rick's guy all have Flux capacitors in their vans.

We just used Harris Electric who was recommended to us from several people in our building. Harris just completed a day's work in our place and I am so highly recommending him.

We had 5 ceiling lights put in our bathroom and a ceiling fan in the living room and one chandelier that needed adjustment. Sounds like no big job, but Harris and his man did all this to perfection in ~9 hours and everything looks and works perfectly. Harris is down to earth guy and also very professional. He went over our wants and needs and gave us feedback and suggestions. He also answered any and all questions we had via email and sent us links and images and spec sheets of anything we asked about. Harris has done a lot of work in the Jersey City area. I definitely recommend this guy for any electrical needs you have. He's awesome.

Thank you jc_insomniac!
Had a small electrical problem this morning, called and they were here by 1pm , exactly when they said they would be here! Pleasant and efficient, will definitely put them on my list of home repair contractors.

Look for Teng and tell him Heidi referred you. I already mentioned your post to him.

I am NOT looking for a licensed electrician. I am looking for someone that works for a licensed electrician that does jobs on the side. Can anyone recommend someone for extra small jobs?

I have used Avolar (http://www.avolar.us) several times for room light and wired fire alarm installation. Edgar and Didi are great and honest people. Prices are reasonable, and they can schedule times on Saturdays, morning hours, and evening hours, if needbe. Perhaps most important, they are properly licensed by the state (NJ requires electricians to be licensed).

I would have accepted the prices--they were all fair. Some of the reasons they gave for backing out had to do with their busy schedules, that they didn't want to deal with permits, etc, nothing to do with me. Not sure why they came over in the first place, since I told them what the deal was when we spoke. I don't know if there is something funky going on in the market, or what. The job is probably similar to yours, Lafayette--old house, needing upgrade/new service.

I have a couple of electricians I have used but before I recommend them may I ask why did they back out after giving you an estimate. Did you accept the price ? I ask because the 2 licensed ones I know won't give you an estimate unless it's a serious inquiry. What kind of work are you looking to do? I have my whole house done..I have an old home and I paid 16,000. I though it was reasonable since my home is large and it was a lot of work.

Can anyone recommend an electrician for a larger, older home renovation project--I have called the ones recommended here and on the competing list, and the electricians have come to my house, given estimates, and then backed out for one reason or another. Thanks.

I'd second Avolar (Edgard). He did a great job running a new 20 amp line from the panel for a home theater project I'm completing.

Can someone direct me to this recommended lamp technician? My favorite lamp is broken. I do not have the time or the patience to fix it myself. Just want to bring it to someone and have it fixed....Thanks.

My prized floor lamp died. Could be the switch, but my knowledge doesn't extend past changing the bulb. I know it's probably not worth having someone come up here (jsq area), but I really like this lamp. I'm willing to pay up to $100. thanks for any recommendations.
