I wouldn't put this in crime statistics, because this would've happened no matter what. He was obviously being watched. There really would have been no way to stop this from happening.

Go one, Sam.

So yer telling us -- the hapless innocents -- that when we find ourselves confronted by one of JC's finest we can question the cop and demand to examine his badge, id, whatever if we think the cop is a phony?

Sounds like an invitation to get one's ass kicked or to get charged with resisting arrest.

And guess what? I've seen it happen several times.

This city, except for the fire department, is run by fools. Every bloody agency, department, whatever, is out for itself.

Damn the citizenry should be JC's motto.

Been here since 1986 sweetheart....

Crime was worse then.

Difference was no one in charge told us it was just our perception.

Nice call by Director Jefferson, ask the guy with the UZI, wearing a T shirt and hat bearing the JCPD logo, for ID. That will go over well, thanks for the good advice!

Stop your annoying stupidity. Get a job. Seriously, what do you do all day? If you think the mayor has soooo.... much direct control over crime then why don't you run Mr. Icechute? Please tell us, why don't you run? You need to stop the incessant postings you contribute, none of which (I might add) will change a damn thing.

My question is why is he paying people with cash. That in itself is a bit shady. He now have done himself more harm with the IRS. Odd

I am suprised at how many more reports of assault weapons and sawed off shot guns have been popping up on the streets the last few years.

Robbed by crook in a 'JCPD' hat

Saturday, May 23, 2009
By RON ZEITLINGER
DEPUTY MANAGING EDITOR
Jersey Journal

Two men, one wearing a hat and T-shirt with JCPD logos, robbed a Newark construction company official of nearly $11,000 in cash yesterday afternoon in a Downtown Jersey City home, police said.

The victim, 43, of Mountainside, told cops the gunman pointed an Uzi assault rifle at his head before taking $10,000 that was meant to pay his workers at Sky High construction company and $900 of his own money.

The victim told police he had entered the Fifth Street home of a co-worker, as he has done many times in the past, at about noon, but that when he had taken only a few steps into the basement he was met by a man with a gun who was wearing a "JCPD" hat and T-shirt. He said the gunman demanded to know where the money was located.

The gunman forced the man to the ground and tied his wrists and legs with duct tape. A second robber then showed up and bound his hands and legs together, and the two men dragged him into a bathroom.

When the two robbers left with the loot, the victim worked himself free with a kitchen knife, he told cops. He saw one of the men outside the home and chased him briefly before giving up.

The Mountainside man said the gunman had a closely cropped haircut and was about 5-foot-10. His hat was blue with white letters and the shirt was blue with a white police logo, the 43-year-old told cops.

Police spokesman Lt. Edgar Martinez said it's illegal for civilians to wear a JCPD hat, or close facsimile, since it is considered part of the uniform.

Police are calling it an isolated incident and are still investigating whether the pair used the police clothing to gain entrance. Police Director Sam Jefferson is urging residents to ask police for identification if they are not sure that they're cops.
