My favorite taqueria in the world finally made it into the Quick Bite section of the NYTimes last week (I'm catching up on my reading)
NYT - took you long enough to "discover" this JC gem. As Authentic as Authentic Gets

We recently discovered Taqueria and LOVE IT.
We've never found any Mexican food out here on the East Coast that really hit the spot, but now we've found our place...and it's really cheap too! I love the pork tacos, beef tacos, cactus tacos, tostadas, enchiladas rojas, flautas and more! SO GOOD. THeir beans and rice also so tasty! Bring a bottle of wine and have their sangria - YUM! The flan, also very good!

When I broke my fever and regained my appetite yesterday, I immediately craved tacos and the chicken soup from Taqueria. I called them, was put on hold for about 5 minutes (though it felt more like ten years), then got disconnected. Seemed like they forgot all about me.

Yep - sounds like you had a bad batch - def go in person, ooh try their brunch it's good. [edit] It's a pretty small place there's a possibility that your food was sitting for a while before it actually made it to you - that what is sounds like to me.

Quick question: what Mexican restaurants in NY or NJ do you and your wife actually like? Not flaming, just curious.

I'm really happy for everyone's positive experiences.
A few weeks ago, we ordered delivery from Taqueria. I had the steak torta, which was mediocre at best. The rest of the food: tamales, flautas, rice, beans... were inedible, and went in the garbage. I'm willing to try again, but will only go and dine-in. (Maybe something happened with the delivery), but my wife swore off. I was pretty bummed. I really wanted to love it. -toe

Picked up 6 pork tacos last night for a quick dinner. I think they may even have increased the portions of the taco filling. With 3 tacos each, the hubby and I were very satisfied.

Dropped in for some tacos yesterday. Great, fresh, flavorful. Friendly staff. Plan on going for Sunday brunch (10 - 2). I'm very happy to have them on Grove.
And long live the taco truck...Good Food!

I was there a few weeks ago. I will be back!
Great food! Great staff! Friendly atmosphere! Try it today, won't you? Tor sez: "YOW! Had I have known about Taqueria, I would not be in the predicament I am in now! Its authentic Mexican food! Avoid cheap imitations at all cost! Your friends will turn on you!"

Shame they put that horrible poster near the kitchen entrance. It really has ruined the decor and Jared Borhgetti's Frankenstein like face nearly caused me to vommit. I am 100% take out now

I had Taqueria the first time the other day. I agree the food is good and authentic tasting. However I wouldn't call it cheap. The prices are small but the portions are too. I guess it is a good thing because American portions are usually quite large and people eat more than they should. However rice and beans are cheap so they shouldn't be skimping on the sides. Overall I would go back but I will need to buy a few more items next time.

Is it just me or does this guy seem to be absolutely stupid. How or why would anyone compare anything to that hell hole Taco Bell? Either way, Do yourself a favor & don't even think about going back there. Shit that leaves more for all the rest of us.
By the way, You look very gay in your picture.

Was in the area late this morning, so stopped in. They had their brunch menu available and I chose the pozole (red soup with pork and hominy). Absolutely excellent. Asawa had huevos rancheros which she enjoyed. I cleaned up her scalloped potatoes and refried beans, both very tasty. I'll be back (I have to try, on principle, the cactus taco).

We picked up some food at Taqueria tonight before heading over to Victory Hall to see the Heist. Tried the cactus taco - I have to admit that I wasn't very fond of it. Everything else, however, was great.
I was also glad to see that the place was nearly at capacity. 8 tables out of 10 or 11 were occupied while we waited for our food. I really hope they do well. I was sad to see Hamilton Cafe go, but Taqueria is a great addition to the 'hood. Quote:

I have not yet been but I am planning on going sometime soon. I am not sure what your experiences with authentic mexican food are but that could be why you didn't like it. I was in western texas about 7 years ago, and I went to a little authentic mexican place where the food was quite bland compared to what I thought mexican food should be. From what I experienced since is that authentic mexican food is more subtle than the americanized version.

I'm amazed how many compliments this place is getting. I was so excited to try it after reading all the rave reviews and my roommates and I were so disappointed. The fish taco was bland, the burritos were nothing but spicy ground beef wrapped in a soft tortilla and the enchilada was the size of a deck of cards (for about 6 bucks I expect to get enough food to at least begin to satisfy my appetite). The food wasn't necessarily bad, but honest to God, I would have been happier with taco bell food. Bubby's burritos, baja, white star, isabella's...anywhere else that has that kind of food is so much better in my opinion.

I've been to that Taco Truck a few times, and the $hit is REALLLY REALLY good.
I can't wait for this place. In a town loaded with Latinos one would think we would have seen this ages ago. My standard move was to pickup three items and head over to the Keyhole bar for cheap ass beers. Reaaly can't beat $1.75 Buds and great cheap food

I had tacos and tamales for lunch yesterday. Outstanding. I really hope they can overcome the curse of the grove/grand corner. Please patronize them so they don't disappear the way everything else there has.
Also, its tasty and cheap. Go there instead of M&P's.

Went last night, all very good. Like what they have done with the place. Only complaint is no hot sauce. I know it's traditional mexican and perhaps traditonal mexican does not include hot sauce...but I'd still like some. I use Cholula and Zapatos (sp?) at home which are both mexican made. Other wise food was great.

Well I'm not sure if it has or hasn't been remodeled from when you were a kid, but I can tell you that it's clean. I'm sure that they did some kind of work to it to make it clean. I also sure that the place doesn't smell.
Was a business even open there when you passed by and it smelled. Like how do you know if it needed remodeling if it smelled so bad when you were passing by... did you actually go inside? I'm calling shenanigans on you. SUMMAGOLD wrote: Quote:
