Re: Hamilton Park - Pet Free Zone Public Hearing - March 30, 6pm City Hall

The presence of dog owners in the park at all hours of day and night for security is overrated.

I was attacked by a deranged man early in the morning a few years ago as I walked across the park on my way to work. This man started yelling at me and threw a 40 oz bottle at me which fortunately missed. All the dog owners who were there and saw what was happening did NOTHING.

So much for your eyes and ears....

The menu looks good, tons of selection! I hope they do well, I'd rather eat here than Basic's microwaved food anyday.

The prices are very reasonable, from $5 to $18, lots of items to pick from if your budget is tight.

I am looking forward to trying them out.

I pass by everyday and the amount of garbage varies day by day, don't know where he's putting it.

Yesterday I saw the JCIA and a couple of people from the fire dept getting into their cars which were parked in front of the property, I don't know if they were there to investigate complaints or what but they definitely are aware of the situation.

I wish Basic would clean up all the broken glass on their corner, no matter where it came from, it is now in front of your property, clean it up!

The lam burger is delicious, and the potato "crisps" are addictive, I wish they were open on weekends though.

I feel for the OP who got beat up - I've been yelled at and given the finger plenty of times at that intersection, I know how aggressive those drivers can get.

The corner of 9th and Manila (grove st) is equally dangerous yes, I've had cars accelerate in front of me so they don't have to wait for me to cross (while I'm already in the crosswalk)

I think if you are going to make a second entrance to the mall parking lot you should also have a stop light there to make it safe for pedestrians to cross the street. The crossing guards there are as useful as those yellow plastic men they replace them with sometimes (but I'm sure not as cheap)

BD - when you're running late for work that extra block plus the walk around the mall to get to where you would've originally ended up by going in thru the 9th st entrance add precious minutes people just don't have.

I really hope they put more police presence in that whole area, if not for the safety of us pedestrians, to make a killing ticketing those reckless drivers who have no regard for traffic laws.

I've lived in HP for about 5 years as a single female without any problems, I would highly reccomend it.

There really is no "nightlife" per se, but we do have about 4 very different bar/restaurants to choose from where you can have a few drinks and still be close enough to be able to walk home. I'd recommend Simple on the corner of 9th and Coles as a nice , female friendly local watering hole.

I don't walk home from the Path after 10pm - its not worth the risk when a cab ride from Grove is $6 with tip (no cabs waiting at Newport- ever- so I wouldn't recommend getting off there if you are planning to take a cab)

All in all it's a really nice neighborhood and getting better so I hope you decide to move here.

I passed by the run yesterday and did not detect any offensive odors whatsoever, I stopped and leaned on the fence to watch the doggies too so i got close enough to detect any foul smells and I'm happy to say there weren't any

Thanks Murican, as far as I can tell the sign on those mini buses says they are going from Newport to Bergenline Avenue.
I think they stop where you and I have seen them to wait their turn to go back to the mall as I have never seen anyone but the driver sitting inside.
I will ask them one of these days though.

I've never seen any, but if you ever do find them please post it here!
The only reason I take the bus back to HP from PA it's because it leaves me steps from my front door, while the path leaves you like a mile away (i might be exagerating a bit) When you're tired or it's cold out it is well worth the $3.10

I was asking myself the same question and did some research and found out what it meant. I actually was thinking of starting a thread where we could post those types of questions that keep us up at night, kind of like where did the Basic gargoyle come from? What does the E at the Pavonia path station means, stuff like that.

One Friday night back in 2000 when playing "who's getting off in Hoboken" was a no brainer, a whole carload of passengers and I watched anxiously as this cute drunken suit sat and slept slumped on his seat on the way home from 9th St. He got closer and closer to the edge of the seat as the train moved thru the tunnels and when he finally fell (in a sitting position mind you) he didn't wake up, he was so drunk he had no idea he'd fallen on the floor and continued to sleep. 2 passengers picked him up as we were pulling into the Hoboken station and proceeded to deposit him on the platform without even having to ask if that was his stop. The guy didn't miss a beat as he came to, and headed up the steps to catch a cab to continue his nap at home.

Newport Mall has a few stores that are decent and would warrant a trip into the city if not for the mall - Victoria's Secret, Ann Taylor Loft and even Macy's selection is getting better, I don't have a car and it helps to have it so close by. I could go to Short Hills with my sister who goes there all the time but unless I can afford to shop at Jimmy Choo, Prada and Louis Vuitton I won't be doing my measly Victoria's Secret shopping there just to say I shopped at SH

I agree, the renovations and the opening of the Coach store can only mean good things.
I have to walk thru the mall everyday and any improvement is greatly appreciated. I also do my part in helping to keep the stores I like around by shopping there way too frequently. I thought I could single handedly save The Limited but alas no such luck, I really miss that store...

That board is a joke, it's Sonia's little playground. I visited in the past- before I found out about this site- and all that board is is a bunch of Newport residents (maybe 10-15, you always see the same few people posting) who can't think for themselves and need to be told how to live and what businesses to frequent. As soon as some kind of controversy or question arises they are asking for Sonia to tell them what to do.
You're better off banned, you're not missing much
