I thought Frank's was closed.

Frank is a true Jersey City treasure. I don't think he was open as often as he could be for the last month or so. He was one of the driving forces in getting Mayor-elect Fulop to where he is today. Frank should be made "Official Pizza Master to City Hall".

I've lived here for 23 years and have no idea how Stella's has managed to stay in business. Awful pizza.

I really like Carmine's Pizza. They're on 8th and Brunswick. Delinio's is good too (7th and Brunswick) if you like thin crust.

I'm a pizzahead. I've been here for 2 years.
Let's categorize, shall we?
Neapolitan: Razza
New York-Neapolitan: Rustique
New York: What I'm really craving but haven't found a good one. Haven't tried Vinnie's.
Live closer to rustique than stella's but my craving has found me ordering from stella's. It's incredibly inconsistent, usually tasing like cheese and sauce on bread, rather than pizza.

Esperanto's, at least under the "new" owners (coptic Egyptians?) was the closest thing to cardboard I have ever eaten.

Esperanto's was the best pizza in JC a decade ago. Then they changed owners and the new owners drove it into the ground. Worst pizza ever. Are the original owners re-opening it? Oh please oh please.

How about John's Pizza? Love their Pizza when we order from their NYC location, I'm wondering if the JC location is just as good.

That's funny, my memories of good pizza there are that old. I used to go there when I took my son to the park after preschool, he's 14 now.

Yes I just heard about Franks. Any word if Frank is thinking about opening elsewhere?

Driving by I see by a window sign it's Frank's that Esperanto's is moving into, rather than the shuttered 3 boys.

As an aside, I had lunch today with a friend whose studio is in the Brooklyn Navy Yard at a nearby joint. 2 pepperoni slices and a bottle of soda:$9!! Jeez, preserve us from trendyness, please.

I was always partial to their really thin slices, I'll drop by and see if it's the same. BTW, Frank said he's renting out the shop to someone else. The pizza shop density here SW of HP has gotten kinda crazy: Delenios, Franks, Esperantos, Rustique, Christos & Carmine's, all within a 3 block by 4 block grid.

I love Delenio's. I wish they would deliver up to McGinley Square, though.

Prince Pizza on Bergen at Montgomery is my new favorite for pizza with a lot of dough with proportionate amounts of sauce and cheese and always hot out of the oven because they serve so much of it. Rustique is equally fine but with a thinner crust. Mmm., this thread is making me hungry.

Terrific video, eccezionale ! This truly exemplifies the N.J./N.Y. Italian pizza scene and what family and food really means to the locals growing up here. Watch out for the phonies and wannabes they'll try to make you eat whatever's thrown in front of you.

I don't know if it's the best ... but ever since I tried the margherita pizza at Roman Nose last weekend, I've been craving it every day. Good stuff.

I like Frank's Pizza! The eggplant pizza made "well done" is perfection. The pizza has a thin crust. I don't claim it's the best pizza in Jersey City, but hits the spot!

Stadium Pizza is also very good, but I only have one slice when I go there. Vinnies III I will have at least two slices.

Yes, next to Wonder Bagel. I only been up here less than a year, I find myself ordering from here often. They just got the whole place renovated and remodeled so not sure how it was before I got here.

The delivery is fast, The slices are big, with real cheese with Jersey City prices, a pie is like 12 bucks. :) a win win.

Pizza Masters is ok, good for the neighborhood. The thread reminded me to stop by Elio's today in time to grab a Sicilian slice. Man oh man. Thanks, jclist.

Okay, I moved out of Jersey City in 2008, and moved back in only recently, but back during my time here I *literally* -- I mean it, literally -- tried every pizza place in Downtown Jersey City. Without a doubt, in my humble opinion, they were all sh*t. I couldn't choose one over the other.
It is something I've griped about for years -- how can Hoboken have decent pizza yet you walk a bit over to DT JC and it falls apart. People have good theories about that, but it isn't an excuse.
New to the area is Two Boots, which is good, but not really the NY pizza I'm looking for. I see these gourmet, brick oven joints popping up but I can make pizza that tastes like that at home.

You have to trek up to the Heights, we have 3 decent pizza parlors, Gino's. Pizza Masters, and Rizzo's all on Central Ave. Gino's is light moist, PM is a traditional NY slice, and Rizzo's over sized, tastey but on the dry side, and all Italian owned.

I like Pizza Masters, nice medium thick chewy crust. Rizzo's thin & crispy without tasting like cardboard. Why anyone think's Gino's is good is beyond me, greasy, greasy, greasy & cheese more chewy than gooey.

Possible. My first visit was 1994, and I was not their first customer. Best non-Italian Italian bakery in town.
