It flew so low over my building that the wash shook the building and blew around snow and at one point it flew between two church steeples on 5th street and monmouth. I'm not sure those church steeples are 150 feet high.

That's too low to be flying around Jersey City and they could easily have driven around town to detect those radiation levels, just saying.

Now that we know they are looking at background radiation levels, do they know something we don't know?

I'm fond of Gia's Gelatos breakfast sandwiches. I usually get the sausage, egg and cheese on a croissant.

Your taste buds are wrong wrong wrong, sorry had to be negative, you can't start off a with a positive on this board....

The wife and I went there the other night, I had the Taylor Ham Egg and Cheeseburger and it was very good. Perfectly seasoned and cooked well, I specifically didn't ask for medium-rare(my liking) just to see what they did and it came out right temperature and was medium. We started with the fried pickles and to my surprise they were the best fried pickles I've had so far, with a nice dill dipping sauce and the breading seemed to be beer battered and nicely seasoned and almost buttery. We also had the The Wedgie, which was the blue cheese salad wedge and it was very good, the candied bacon was a nice touch.

Honestly I can't fault a business in their first week of business. The staff was a little frazzled by the size of the crowd(packed house), service was attentive and our waiter was very good but the time it took to get the food was a little slow, something the cooking staff will adapt to I'm sure.

I see a person complaining about the music, well there was a jukebox over near the front door, if you wanted to listen to something more to your liking, get off your butt and put some money in the jukebox. Just an observation. The jukebox could be a bad thing, especially if somebody decided to play death metal or Whats the Fox say? for the entire meal

The thought crossed our mind as well, it had that hallmark look but who knows. I wish it wasn't painted over, it looked really cool.

You have a vis-a-vis issue, you just need to deal with them directly or maybe you should join them and their party, you'd be surprised the affect you might have on your neighbors by actually meeting them face to face.

I just don't understand why people who live in a city, on top of each other, expect this to be quiet like the suburbs. It's just not going to happen.

I agree where you're heading with this, but I'm not complaining about a loud tv next door, or someone walking on top of my ceiling at all hours. This is a party with music and people that can be heard at least a block away. The suburbs can have loud jerks as well.

And these parties do go on well past midnight. I originally posted this at 1:45am.
One of his parties last year I did call the cops at 3:00am after getting completely sick of it. The cops came, the noise stopped for the time the cops were there and then came right back on.

Its beyond having a good time. Its just rude to all of his neighbors.

How about John's Pizza? Love their Pizza when we order from their NYC location, I'm wondering if the JC location is just as good.

Re: Flooding 5th & Monmouth - HELP
#10

Actually there was sewer flooding during Sandy, I live on the corner of 4th and Monmouth and the water was bubbling up through the grates that night and flooding 5th street. Also between 4th and 5th street there are homes who's sewers flood every major storm, you'll noticed the shit smell is quite prevalent. Now I've lived on 4th and Monmouth for 14 years, in the first 5 years there I saw one t-storm dump enough rain that 5th and monmouth flooded and the flooding reached all the way up Monmouth until it reached 4th street; i took some photos of that because it was so anomalous.

Now in the past 2-3 years I've seen it flood at least 5-6 times, two times were Irene and Sandy. So there are few factors here, either we're getting storms capable of flooding the area more and more, our infrastructure is sub-par(inclined to agree on this one), or too much new construction in our area adding additional apartment units to an already over-utilized sewer system that hasn't been upgraded.

Keep in mind that 5th and Monmouth is also only 13 feet above sea level, take into account a basement is going to be 8-10 feet down and you'll be flooded even when the street isn't. Our buildings basement is constantly flooded after small thunderstorms and our basement abuts another house which abuts another and so on. So just because you have a sump in yours doesn't mean your neighbor does and you might be pumping out the water leaking into your basement or getting flooded by other buildings connected to yours.

Not to disuade you from looking to the area, it's honestly a great neighborhood, you just will need to be ready to deal with the occasional flooding.

Quote:
My take on the info given in the OP is that the property experienced rainwater flooding in Irene, a big rainstorm, but not sewer flooding in Sandy, a surge with little rain. I would actually call that good news. A pump can deal with rainwater much more easily than sewer flooding.

One of my all time favorite restaurants, the summer rolls are to die for and I haven't had a main course I don't like. You might be slightly surprised at how good their fried rice is, might be the best fried rice I've ever tasted in my life. The owner also has the cajun blackened down to a T and one of the best stocked bars in the area.

My fave main courses in order:

1. Beef Rendang
2. Crab Fried Rice (ask for some of the sweet sauce to add to it on the side) w/ Side Salad
3. Acorn Squash Shrimp Curry(Eyebrow sweating spicy and savory)
4. Black and Blue Tuna w/ Side Salad.

Dessert favorites are the Sweet Potato pie which is incredibly good and on par with some of the best soul food joints in the area; I think they only serve it on the weekends

Also that Banana Cake....

You do realize you can completely bypass crossing the Holland Tunnel traffic by going down Monmouth and Coles?

My brother, wife and I were walking past the Bank of America parking lot when we heard a loud noise, saw the street lights dim and saw spectacular explosion come from the the ground near the Pet Store. I'm going to guess that it was an electrical fire and subsequent explosion since it was blew off the man hole cover and the smoke smelled like burning plastic.
