Your loss. Less crowd for those with less arbitrary standards to contend with for table space.

(Assuming you're referring to Third and Vine).

I've been 2-3 times and they always have movies playing silently on the TVs. One time it was a black and white movie, another time some odd film with Helena Bonham Carter. The type of stuff that makes great background eye candy/creates ambiance - not a sports game for people to yell at or anything that IMO disrupts the vibe.

I agree. The two rather small TV's do nothing to hurt the restaurant's ambiance, and depending on your tastes, could even enhance it. It's a really unique place with delicious small plates and a well managed bar... hope they continue to do well!

And "craft taps" tend to be very arbitrary. I'm guessing their version of craft is shock top and heineken unfortunately but I hope I am proved wrong. It would be nice to finally get another craft beer option in Grove

That place is going to be a craft beer bar??

Have you seen a menu or website?

TV or not TV, that is the question...

What a hot topic here. It almost warrants its own thread.

Most chic bars in NYC have TV's it has never bothered me as long as the sound is off. I have only been to one bar that had the sound on which was the Key Hole dtjc.

Also most bars that I frequent would have some bizarre movie like "A Clock Work Orange" playing while the DJ spins. Its a nice visual if its done right.

If you are visiting a bar solo like I do from time to time its nice to have something to look at it if you are not trying to hook up or when you are waiting for your party to arrive.

Where I live, there are many restaurants that have tv's in the bar area, several tuned to different stations, but except for a very major event (perhaps the Super Bowl, or game 7 of the World Series)..all are silent!!

No idea why bars feel the need to have TVs. This is coming from a guy who loves watching sports.

Interesting.

Goonies was on last night with music but I still think they are unnecessary. It's a cool, minimalist space and I feel they detract.

With that said, I will be frequenting Third and Vine. Can't wait to see till they have the full menu rolled out. I like how they have been adding and tweaking the menu as the weeks pass.

I could be wrong but when I was last there, the tv was muted and showing a B&W classic flick, something you'd see on Turner Classic Movies like The Heiress. And their Ipod was playing lounge music. You couldn't hear the tv, just see the visuals. I don't think that they are going for the vibe of airing sports events or the news

That is a shame -- it would be like adding TVs to Madame Claude's or Union Republic! It will bring the wrong crowd!

I was in last night and they installed TV's recently.

I think they should take them out, the place doesn't need tv's and I feel like it detracts from the astetics of the space. I hope they didn't put them in because they feel need tv's to attract the sports crowd.

JaeTea, they have one with smoky pancetta and will soon have one with caviar. There still might be smoked salmon one as well. Best deviled eggs I've ever tasted.

Have been there 3 times already. Great food, ambiance (think they were playing some Hotel Costes last time), and service. Deviled eggs, Mediterranean salad, beet salad, meatballs with polenta and the truffle toast were excellent. The mac-n-cheese wasn't thrilled about.

Love this place. Soon it's going to be tough to get a table, though.

So far the best thing about attempting to avoid the PATH weekend madness was discovering this place. Seriously good cocktails, tasty nibbles, and the owners are great. We'll be back for sure.

Hubby and I had a lovely dinner at the bar last night. White anchovies with pickled fennel. Meatballs with polenta. Deviled eggs with pancetta. A cheese plate. Lovely wine. We'll be back soon.

A $6 beer is actually quite reasonable, and $9-14 for a quality glass of wine is also an appropriate range. Where do you go that it is cheaper than that?

My Yelp review:

My Wife and I wondered in last night out of curiosity. We had heard that the space was going to be a wine and cheese bar. We were walking back from the PATH last night and saw lights on and crossed the street to look in the window. There's no sign out front and we were surprised they were actually open for business. The space is nice size and pleasant. Brian and his Wife are the owners and very down to earth and seem like really good people. We had the cheese board which was 4 different cheeses each with a side such as balsamic vinegar and pine nuts etc. delicious. Also shared the meatballs which were 4 small meatballs served in a cute little le creuset bowl. We were instructed not to forget to dig deep to get the polenta. I had 2 beers from a brewery in upstate NY, and my wife had 2 red wines.
Drinks were tasty.
It was a nice experience and I wish them the best of luck. Definitely a great addition to this part of Newark Avenue. The only thing that I would suggest is that they make a drink menu WITH prices. Until then you should ask. Our 4 drinks were $ 36. I think that's steep. One glass of wine was $10 and the other was $14. Each bottle of beer was $6.00.

Looks like they close quite late, 12:00AM, except for Fridays and Saturdays when they close at 2:00AM.

Love the late-night hours and now I'm curious to hear when the kitchen closes.

Has anyone asked if they planned to open for lunch eventually? Per YELP, they open at 5:00 PM.
