I know they're not even in season, but chanterelles?? I know a steak that wants them to join it for dinner.

Does anyone have any suggestions for where I might find Omani grocery items (black limes, in particular)? I know I can order them on Amazon, but if there's a store I can support in JC, I'd rather do that. If they've got sumac, saffron, etc., all the better.

Asian Food Market on 440 next to Big Lots. It's fantastic. Clean, great bakery, great produce and reasonable prices. It's huge too - you'll be able to find whatever you need there.

Big Lots on Rt. 440 (next to Marshalls) has a wide range of Bob's Red Mill products and I believe they have these 2 products.

I've gotten that stuff at P&K (downtown, right behind Morlee's).
The owners there are super friendly. P&K Food Market 170 Newark Ave Jersey City, NJ 07302 (201) 451-9888

If you can't find it locally, you could try the H Mart in Manhattan's K-Town. Right next to the 33rd St PATH stations, so a quick ride away.

The larger Whole Foods locations (like the one in Vauxhall and perhaps the one in Edgewater) have bulk seeds, grains and flours in bins from which you can take the amounts you want/need. You may want to call ahead to confirm availability, but I am pretty certain I have seen spelt at the location in Vauxhall. Not sure about Kamut, but I *think* (not really sure) that may be a trademarked grain, and harder to find.

Oops! Thank you for correcting my brain fart, third_street_hats!! Quote:
Their cakes are what some refer to as "Dominican cakes" which are double layer, white, super moist, with a fruit filling in between layers (usually pineapple, or a type of berry) and coated with a somewhat overly sweet frosting. I have never liked frosting in general, so don't go by my description of that. If you want to taste their cakes, stop in today or tomorrow. They usually have "cake pieces" which are very large cake slices that they sell for $1. The lady who owns the place is very sweet. Their other pastries and sweets are good (flan, tembleque, quesitos, etc - typical latin caribbean stuff) and their bread (if fresh) is also good.

In DTJC you can get very good tasting cakes at Carmen Rosa's Bakery at the corner of 4th and Coles. Prices are pretty good, as I recall. You may need to preorder this weekend if you need it for Monday.

Our go to birthday cake in my family has always been the rum cake from Monteleone, on Newark Avenue, by Journal Square. They do other cake flavors as well, and will take custom orders in advance.

Choc'o'pain should have brioche loaves. I've purchased from there recently.

A lot of people have breadmakers they got as gifts and never used. Make a challah recipe, pull it out before the cook cycle begins, braid it, rise it, paint with egg, bake in oven. Enjoy fresh hot challah with Sabbath dinner, make french toast in the morning, as I will tomorrow.

Try http://www.yelp.com/biz/philippine-bread-house-jersey-city (Ensaymadas) or http://www.yelp.com/biz/pecoraro-bakery-jersey-city Btw - any bread is fine - oven-dried or stale works best. I like using sourdough. I've heard Texas toast works good too - you can find in the freezer aisle of most supermarkets.

Does anyone know where I might be able to find a loaf of brioche for French toast in Jersey City?
If you have a suggestion of other type of bread to use for good French toast, feel free to suggest!

Just posting this if anyone is looking for apartment or small house sized furniture. IMEO, Shaker design is where modern furniture began and keeps a space with more modern things grounded. F E, I have Shaker (repro) lamp tables next to Mr. Impossible chairs and it looks like two hipster grandkids visiting their Bohemian great grandfather. (when I'm not looking, I'm sure he's offering them weed).

I think the explanation you are looking for is "know thy customer"... The way things are, some people are super obnoxious and I am sure orders are placed but not claimed, or picked up. I rather they do THAT instead of taking unnecessary losses which would are, invariably, passed on to the other (responsible) customers.
