The Tokyo video is scary.

I only hate PATH on weekends. The weekend night services are the worst. It can take an hour to get home after midnight. The stop at Hoboken is just not right. I see more and more people using PATH. When there are this many users, Port Authority should schedule more services on weekends and no more Hoboken & JC in one service. Also, install fans or AC for the train stations. It is inhumane and dangerous how hot it gets in those stations.

Absolutely no excuse for that Tokyo vid....they're asking for deaths there.

PATH really isn't bad compared to NYC subways....the 6 is ridiculous to the point I will kill time for hours to avoid the rush hour on one of those. The PATH can be annoying at times and overcrowded, but at least we don't have the Port Authority shoving us in.

I was travelling home on the 33rd to JSQ train on Saturday last and I overheard the conductor and a co-worker having a conversation regarding the of new cars. According to both PATH employees the new cars are too high for the tunnels and need to be "sized down" by an inch so they can be used.
Has anyone else heard about this?

Are you serious? Yeah, the PATH could be better and costs too much, but the subway is SO much worse. I changed jobs partly so I could work within walking distance of a PATH station and wouldn't have to fight for my life on the subway anymore.

The new cars on the subway are great (I lived on the 6 line when they still had the old red ones), but they don't make up for the overcrowding, constant delays, and frequent breakdowns.

Are the new cars for all lines or just specifically for some?

The overarching issue confronting both the MTA and the Port Authority is a lack of political will. Certainly the leadership of these organizations is lacking in many instances, but fundamentally, these are political appointees beholden to the politicians that install them to their positions.

The elected officials themselves are far too concerned about lowering taxes while fleecing the public coffers to make the capital investments necessary. The same reason that the Minnesota I-35 bridge collapsed is the same reason the PATH signal system fails every 2 weeks and the MTA subway trains can't arrive on time-- that is an unwillingness to spend money necessary to provide services and postponing inevitable expenses as long as possible.

Side note - if you dont like the crowding, leave a little earlier for work. I typically ride both the PATH and subway between 6-7:30am - any time after that it become a complete s* show. I would almost describe the commute before 7:30 a lazy.

PATH IS bad, and with its extremely limited service comes off as FAR more egregious than the New York MTA by ANY fair measurment standards per passenger miles or per miles of track.

PATH sucks, and it is vastly overpriced for its level of service. Being unanswerable to the public doesn't help one iota.

Gotta sympathise with Port Authority, they were never prepared to actually run a train. Their only expertise is to accept already built tunnels and bridges and hold their hands out for an avalanche of tolls.
They are very good at counting quarters, dollars and sawbucks.
All Port Authority has EVER wanted is to be rid of the PATH train and it shows with every move they make.
