Re: 1 month rental by Journal Square

If you walk down Newark Ave from Kennedy,(towards Little India) a little ways down on your left there is a very narrow side street/alley. If you turn down it, right on the left hand side is a hotel that has extended stay available.

I have never been to it but I drive past it all the time and have noticed it. Don't know the name but it's there. If you walk over and look you will find it.

Your friend/coworker could probably get a place there for a month.

Sorry I don't know about downtown busses but I did see busses on Kennedy this morning. Also, someone who works in my building in NYC got in via bus from JC so I am assuming it was the dollar van. I also saw a few dollar vans on my way into the Lincoln Tunnel this morning.

I guess you could do it yourself. it probably would be less stressful for your cat. I would just be nervous of cutting their skin since I wouldn't know what the hell I was doing.

You can have your cat shaved into what they call a "Lion Cut". I believe the fur on their head and feet are left long and their bodies are shaved. My girlfriend has a cat who gets this each summer and it helps so much with shedding. You also get a break from the 2x daily brushings. She never had a problem with her cat freaking out at the groomer, however I am sure this does happen. I know the groomer at the Hoboken Animal Hospital does these and is very highly regarded. (I don't know anyone in JC, sorry)

Why I don't like paying taxes period, and I do order quite a bit from Amazon, I really don't mind. It's going to create jobs and stimulate our economy in NJ so I can deal with it.

My 2 cents - 20% is a standard tip these days (for for like the past 10 or so years) Anyone who leaves 10% without first speaking with a manager about the problem, in my opinion, should never be considered a good tipper.

Having waited tables for years, there are sooo many reasons service can be bad. It's not an excuse but if you get bad service, before you stiff the waiter it is nice to address the problem, either with the waiter or the manager. Sometimes wait staff doesn't relay the problem to the customer, sometimes the customer is an a-hole... there are so many reasons why service can be slow. And there are so many different interpretations of good/bad service.

I've always been happy with M&P.

Very true. However, to be real here, it's been more noteably stinky on the path for a month or so. This hot steamy weather has only been around for a few days.

On my way to the path today traffic was blocked off all around Journal Square. There was a funeral procession with police in full dress uniform. Does anyone know was this the slain officers funeral? There was a very somber vibe all around the square. SO sad.

If you happened to be referring to me I said it was "decent" not good, "decent" meaning, it will suffice.

I don't understand people who complain about the A&P store. It has a pretty good butcher/fish selection, nice produce selection, decent organic and bakery. What more do you want? If you are really into specialty foods, go into the city to whole foods or trader joes. Sure, it would be nice to have one of those in JC but the A&P is pretty darn good.

The map does not tell the story buddy and apparently your such a weenie that you never walked around their to see the real distance. It's about the 3/4 distance from the Montgomery projects to dixon mills. Close I don't think so.

Greenville, why is someone a "weenie" (your terminology) just because they haven't walked around a certain area of town?? Why do you assume it is because they are scared??? There are plenty of areas of NYC that I haven't walked around and I lived there for more than 10 years.

If I don't have a reason or a desire to go to a certain part of town, I don't.

Also, I would consider 4 or 5 blocks close by.

Well, I get you Tommy, I get ON at Journal Square and I would say 70-80% of the time I have to stand all the way to 33rd Street.

I also take the Hoboken train a few times a month and at 5:45 or 6pm, it's pretty crowded at 33rd street but not at all like the JSQ train.

There just aren't enough trains and that probably isn't going to change anytime soon.

OK, what's the deal with the trains from Manhattan to Hoboken being empty in the early evenings, and the Journal Square trains are always packed???

I board at 23rd street, usually between 6 and 7 pm on weekdays. Hoboken train comes by...almost empty in the first couple of cars! JSQ train comes by...packed to the gills!

What gives? If Port Authority wants to save some money, they should limit the frequency of trains to Hoboken. Or (even better, but will never happen)...INCREASE the number of JSQ trains. The differential in ridership between the JSQ train and Hoboken train is remarkable.

What's happening...is it just that JC has boomed over the last couple of years?

Tommy, do a comparison of the population of both places. Now does it make sense to you? They already run more trains to JC. There's just a lot more people there.

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a pet sitter, or someone who will just come in and check if my cats have enough water/food? I live in JC Heights and we are looking for someone to just make a quick house call while we are away.

Any recommendations would help! TIA

would the basement be a 3rd dwelling? If so now you have turned a 2 family into a 3 family.

There is tons of info on this on the internet, it varies depending upon where you live.

Gee, hmm. I would have to check with my husband on that 1stGuy but I have been on many many long distance rides through the middle of nowhere and usually when we have to stop for some reason he will rev the engine once or twice. I'm pretty certain he's not trying to impress me or any willd life that may be in the area, but I will check with him tonight and find out exactly why. Maybe he's just so used to being inconsiderate he does it subconsciously.

Jeebus:

Why do you assume he has a new Harley? He doesn't, it's an older vintage bike. I can assure you my husband knows how to operate his bike. He's had Harley's for over 20 years.

And honestly, to all those who think bikers rev the engine so everyone will look at them and think they are cool or have big penises. Are you serious? Comeon.

Re: MOTORCYCLE RIDER

I totally get this. My husband and our neighbor both ride harleys. When they get ready to go they start the bike up and let it run for maybe 2 minutes. They have to. But they aren't especially loud, just regular for Harley's. They try to be considerate and not rev the motor and since we're not into really late night stuff, generally we aren't ever home later than 11 (I know, pathetic) and we usually only take the bike out maybe 1 day on the weekend.

We have another neighbor who also rides and he leaves his bike running for 10-15 minutes every time he starts his up. He is around the corner from us and the pictures on our walls shake the whole time it's running.

It's just like everything else in life. There are those who are considerate and those who aren't.

We really did enjoy it there, that's the reason for my post. I was concerned with the lack of customers. There are not a ton of great, more upscale places in JC so it's nice when one does open and the food and service is good. It's a nice place to take the parents or out of town guests.

So last Saturday 4 of us went here, pretty early like around 6:45 and while there were some people at the bar, we were the only table inside the restaurant. We left around 8:00 and at that point there were only 2 other tables that had come in.

What's the deal with this place? Is it more of a week day crowd? The food was really good I thought. Just wondering why it was so dead?

So I am finally completely fed up with our Comcast service. Our picture constantly pixilates and freezes up so you can't even change the channel and more often than not the on demand isn't working. (Unavailable at this time...) We have made numerous phone calls to reset the box and had 4 different service guys over in a 6 month period. Still isn't fixed.

We are having Verizon Fios installed next monday. My question to anyone who has it. Is there a remendous amount of wiring to be done and, how much equipment is involved? We are getting phone, internet and cable. Anyone who knows or had experience with installation I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks in advance!
