Re: Questions for owners at 140 Bay

I'd check out Waldo Lofts - it's loft living, but without the pain of a renovated / rehabbed building. New construction from ground up (built in 2006, 2007?) and the president of the development group who built Waldo Lofts (Fields Development) lives in one of the penthouse units... obviously no penthouse roof leaks there ;)

But yeah, it's right around the corner from 140 Bay -- might be worth checking out.

Let's admit it. Downtown JC is a convenient place to sleep and maybe grab a bite here and there on the weekend. Other than that, it has nothing going for it, the way many neighborhoods have in either Queens or Brooklyn.

We ourselves do not ever drink tap water, filtered or not.

We exclusively only buy bottled water (2.5 gallon poland spring type ones).

NJ Car Registration Questions
#5
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

I did my registration and title last Friday at the MVC. Now that I am home, I don't recall having a registration paper/card given to me (like I get an insurance card from Geico). Was I supposed to receive one?

The car that I registered was a new vehicle (2006 model) that I bought from a private party, so perhaps it's already been registered? But do I get a card or something? What happens if I get pulled over by police and they ask for registration papers? What do I show?

Sorry, I'm not that familiar with NJ car laws, and this is my first car being registered in NJ. Any help is appreciated!!

Benefits of the 3 door will be better passenger flow, and people will not bunch up near the doors. It's quite silly how the door area is scrunched up with a ton of ppl, but the ends of the cars are relatively empty (and peaceful).

I'm all for the 3 door new PATH cars. Let'em out already!

2nd St and Marin?

Not too shy to talk

I walked by the sneaker store on 2nd Street and marin blvd, and to the right of it, has been a boarded up building that was under construction for a while. Today, the boards came down, and I was stunned by what I saw. What used to just be an apt walkup building with just brick and a door facade is now all glass, and looks like some type of retail space. Anybody know what is going to happen with this space?

A critical measure, esp. with the burgeoning baby/toddler/children population in Jersey City!!

Looks like my GroveStreetJC.com blog is causing some controversy over at Kannekt.com! I wrote a nice post comparing Ivy House vs Washington Commons for somebody, and the Kannekt moderator deleted my post. Then two people rallied to my defense! Thank you for the defending words, whoever you are.

I actually enjoy getting the PATH updates, as both my wife and myself can arm ourselves with knowledge. Who wants to go to a station, to find it out of order?

I appreciate the PATH update service, and it's been extremely useful for us.

I do admit, that lately, the frequency of updates have been more, likely due to the weather conditions (t-storms, hot weather) and as well with more and more ppl seeing JC as a great place to live.

Correction to the above post, the $15K closing cost is not an unit that is unsold by the Developer, but rather it is a current owner occupied re-sale unit.

It seems the 10% unsold are all the expensive penthouse units though....

I recently visited an Open House at Waldo Lofts, for a resale (guess owner was leaving). I did a write-up of my thoughts on the place at my blog, if anybody is interested in reading.

It's very unfortunate, but such is the reality of the economy. I can't imagine what it's like, to be in a foreign country and then be displaced/laid off like this. Best of luck to you all.

Best to hit up the real estate brokers on Grove Street (south of the PATH). There are a bunch of brokers with rental listings that should help you out. That said, I've seen some very good deals for 1 or 2BR brownstone rentals. You should be able to find something in your range, for sure. Good luck.

Unfortunately, the planned completion of the Church Street entrance/exit (the one that just closed) is not going to be until 2011. The temporary new exit at Greenwich and Vesey is there through 2011!
