Either way stop blaming the victims. A person should be able to walk down the street with cash on hand.

Should a rape victim be at fault because of how they dressed?

Victim blaming is a common distraction when we want to avoid talking about patterns in who perpetuates these violent crimes.

Again, how is using a check cashing place, paying a predatory few, and subsequently being robbed instead of going to a bank in the first place anything but stupidity or illegal?

What does this have to do with Fulop? And come on. Ask anyone anywhere to read this story and give their thoughts. The majority of people will say something is fishy. It isn't smart to be walking around with such large sums of currency, and that's a fact. Let's not make apologies or excuses for stupidity.

Don't walk around the hood with $4,500 in cash. It's not racism just stupidity!

I don't know why these men were standing outside an auto body shop on Fairmount Avenue with $4,500.00 cash. However, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and not jump to conclusion that they are criminals in possession of cash from illegal sources because they are from the "wrong side of the tracks". I will also consider that aside from the auto body shop on that street there are also auto repair shops on the same block and maybe the customers of these businesses don't have the credit ratings that many of the posters here have and must deal in cash.

With that said, and what I find quite interesting, is the fact that the report of this robbery has already generated TWELVE COMMENTS mostly negative which I believed are based on racial stereotypes.

Recently Tom Moran of the New Jersey Star Ledger wrote an article regarding the "baggage" Mayor Fulop has accumulated in his quest for his gubernatorial ambitions, in that column Moran wrote: "The worst case, if proved true, could be a misuse of city funds. In that one, the city granted a contract to a firm affiliated with a prominent political player in Middlesex County, then canceled it, and then reinstated it a month later".

http://www.nj.com/opinion/index.ssf/2015/06/post_124.html

A columnist from a major statewide news organization reports that the Mayor of Jersey City might have committed a crime, AND it was posted on this site and it only generated SIX COMMENTS. Yet residents in a blue collar neighborhood on the "other side of the tracks" report they were held up at gunpoint and there have already been TWELVE COMMENTS on this site in where they are the target of all kinds unsubstantiated innuendo, amazing!!!

Our education system in this country really needs to be revamped. How the hell do you even survive or make something of yourself in this country without a bank account?

Because if much of your income is cash based and unreported to the IRS, you can't really use a bank account or you'll quickly find yourself in a jail cell for tax evasion (and possibly other illegal activities used to get that cash in the first place).

Illegal immigrants don't open bank accounts. Neither does anybody else that lives a life of not filing income tax returns. And there are plenty of those people around this city.

No point in banking if you spend it all.

Just 38 percent of Americans said they could cover an unexpected emergency room visit or even a $500 car repair with cash on hand in a checking or savings account, according to Bankrate, which commissioned the study.

Better cut back on the gold chains, iPhone 6s, junk food...

Plus why own a car? Transit is heavily subsidized for the government because they realize many residents would not be able to pay a fare that covered 100% of the cost.

The immigrants that come to this country with basically nothing find ways to survive and provide a better future for their children.

Many Americans need a realty check because they don't know how easy they have it. Travel the world and see how 95% of the human population exists. I'm so very thankful to be living in this country.

surprised its that high, I see people buying money orders and counting wads of cash, even in NYC LES not just here. I had a contractor do some work for me a while back. His fee was $200 a day, he worked for me for about two weeks. He wouldn't take a check because he had no way of cashing it so I had to pay him in cash.

Story said it was in front of an auto body shop. Were they going to pick up a car? In my experience, most people don't pay the local chop shop with their Amazon Visa.

Tryna give the vics the benny-of-the-d here.

Reminds me of the guy that had several thousand dollars hidden in his home. He went out to the corner store to buy milk, and when he got back a few minutes later, he realized he forgot to lock the door and had been robbed. Criminals found his hidden stash and stole it, but didn't touch anything else.

c'mon now, what 3 people have $4,500 in their pockets? There is definitely more going on here.

I'd give it to them.

If their getaway car is an Elantra, they need that money more than you do.

I'm also going to say there's more to this story if 3 men were carrying $4,500 dollars.

Ron Zeitlinger | The Jersey Journal

Two men got away with more than $4,500 in cash when they robbed three men at gunpoint on Fairmount Avenue in Jersey City last night, police said.

The three victims told police they were standing in front of an auto body shop on Fairmount near Fairview Avenue at 8:50 p.m. when two men wearing ski masks, one with a handgun, got out of a Hyundai Elantra demanded money, police were told.
