I could be mistaken here: I haven't paid enough attention to each issue as has been discussed over the last year, but...
Wasn't the police's Uniform Stipend a point of contention during contract negotiations with the city? Didn't they end up with less to spend than usual in order to save the city (and us taxpayers) some money?
Maybe its a statement.
Or maybe they can't afford Decarlos anymore.

Thank you for posting-- just because something is not the biggest issue does not mean it should not be addressed. I just spent the last couple of weeks in Italy-- the police uniforms there were extremely well tailored and perfectly pressed-- they looked fantastic. You could tell they took great pride in their appearance. I would love to see some of that pride-- and less of the arrogance-- here.

Maybe they are not wearing their vest so it would fit a lil bigger.

Read my previous posts on this. This is just a gripe and something I would not have even bothered mentioning had I not seen it occuring more and more. For Gods sake it's not a HUGE issue, just an opinion I have. I can't believe I even have to qualify it. But here you go: Yes, there are many, many more important issues facing this city than oversized, sloppy police uniforms.

Glad it keeps geeting posted on though. Perhaps the Police Commisioner will hear about it and keep our officers in blue looking their best.

So we are saying we only have one officer doing all the work !

I'm sure the JCPD have a uniform policy and the way they present themselves in public. If they look like crap, then its their commander that's at fault and the officer obviously has no pride and most likely doesn't give a siht what he looks like or give a siht serving the community.

They really need to get their priorities in order

BTW...Thank You JCPD for helping get those scumbags off the streets!

I KNOW. I SAW A JCPD NOT BRUSH HIS TEETH AFTER EATING AT HELEN'S PIZZA! SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!

The fit of the uniforms does seem a bit petty. Maybe they've simply healthier and lost weight? Perhaps the steroid investigation prompted ht weight loss?

Seriously, though, if you have issues with the police, there are better things to attack, Like the SPECTRA endorsement and the Rick Garrison case that just disappeared.

You must be a cop who has an ill fitting uniform SICULO. I suggest an alteration at DeCarlos's on Monmouth. My life is just fine. Thank you for the concern though.

This is a fairly open forum where we can post ideas, jokes, happenings and gripes, etc. I simply got a gripe off my chest. That said, over the last few years when I have seen seen a JC police officer 7 out of 10 times their uniform is too big.

Perhaps I am a traditionalist when it comes to this sort of thing. I also dislike the oversized pants most baseball players wear and how some postal carriers will wear their own (non-USPS) jackets. There just seems to be no oversite with who wears what size uniform and it seems to be getting worse. In my opinion there is a certain level of respect lost when our law enforcement doesn't look their best. Weight issues aside, a poorly dressed cop shows no pride in their chosen profession.

There was a time when police beemed with pride and looked top notch 24/7. Note the pant and sleeve lengths on these police officers from 1949 in the below link. Look around JC tomorrow and do a comparison.

I suppose one could argue that most people back then tried a bit harder to look their best than what we do nowadays. However, when it comes to city officials, law enforcement, postal carriers, etc. there needs to be some order.

Obviously these cops are new.....give them a few months of doughnut eating, coke drinking and sitting on their ass, then they will fit into their uniform snuggly!

Resized Image

Even public opinion see's cops as fat-asses

Is this all the cops or A cop you saw that day and decided this is really worth your time to write about?

Maybe they lost weight. We should be applauding their efforts at physical fitness, especially in this obese nation.

If this is your biggest bone to pick with the police, you're in good shape. How about random enforcement or non-inforcement of any number of laws? Or not obeying laws themselves? Poorly fitting unforms are way behind those infractions, imho.

a poorly fitted or maintained uniform looks like a costume.

I too have noticed this.
