this is silly argument because it boils down to personal choice and responsibility. when i went there, i ate a ham, bacon, sausage, egg and cheese on a bagel every morning. lunch was never anything particularly 'healthy'. never got fat and I am a pretty healthy adult now.

You're right. How can we all just sit here and do nothing while some child some where is eating a donut right now? I was going to complain about the crime, global warming, taxes, or the economy but clearly I should be redirecting my efforts towards the fact that kids that aren't mine are eating skittles after school.
Where can I sign up to be on the killjoy task force for this pressing issue?

These are just a few of the many, many articles and studies regarding the correlation between socioeconomics and race and obesity.

Or you can just walk around the street of JC or look out of your car window to see the evidence.

I'd have to agree with everyone else- this is a stupid post. I'd give you credit if it had to do with the lunch being served in the school and if you actually had a kid who went there. But an outside vendor for a school you don't even have a child attending? Who really gives a crap? No one cares what the prep school kids are paying for to shove down their gaping maws. You even pretending this is some sort of serious issue is so dumb that it comes off as trolling.

The candy and soda stands are provided free of charge by a consortium of local dentists.

I went to Prep in the mid to late 90s and I recall there being a fair share of candy and soda available at the lunch room.

In fact, their availability caused me to bomb an exam.

FYI, if you have a sensitive stomach, don't pop a handful of skittles and shotgun a soda early in the morning.... right before an exam.

You'll experience the rainbow alright...explodinating out of your ass.

The food there was hardly what I would call 'healthy' by today's standards. Mozzarella sticks, cheesesteaks, and fries were my staple foods in high school. Most of the kids I knew ate junk like that. Can't say throughout my 4 years there, I saw someone become 'fatter'. Some of my friends actually leaned out because of the sports programs there.

I think the food selection had little to do with who became fat. From what I observed, the fat kids were already fat coming into school. If they leaned out, it was because of sports.

Nope, not grouchy from fireworks. I just find people who want to parent other people childrens insufferable.

And, I'm not trying to censor you. I'm just telling you my opinion of your opinion. But, I guess it's censorship if someone tells you that they don't agree with you. I agree with what the previous poster said to you. Find a hobby.

You're grouchy. Those fireworks still disturbing your peace? If I were you I would move to the country. I'll try my hardest not to engage you in this post anymore, but damn it's fun.

Let me guess, you are all for the "soda tax" because it's all about the children and that will solve obesity. Solving obesity won't happen unless we teach our children to make good decisions. Hiding hotdog stands won't teach kids a thing. When I went to HS, there was an ice cream truck parked outside the school every day and guess what? I didn't have an ice cream every day, and neither did my friends.

You are worried about a bunch of private school high schooll kids who probably have parents who are involved and are well aware of the hot dog guy who parks outside of the school. If you are truly concerned about the well being of these children who aren't even YOURS, write a letter to them, complain to the headmaster like I mentioned about. Then come back here with your results.

Who are you trying to help by posting here? If you are that concerned, why don't you find all of the families who have their sons at that school and you can write them a letter about your concerns. Or you can call up the headmaster at St. Peters and complain to them about it. I'm sure they will appreciate feedback about the hotdog vendor from a person who doesn't even have a child enrolled in their school.

You'd have a point if this was the only food option that the school provides. However, it's not even the school providing it, it's just a guy selling hotdogs and sodas to a bunch of teenagers. Are you looking to shut down Mcdonald's as well, or the dunkin donuts at exchange place??

Sorry, but your post is just ridiculous. Why not look at a public school lunch and complain about that??

Oh my god, who the f*ck cares??? Don't you have something better to worry about? Unless your child goes to school there why the hell do you even waste any time thinking about this?

I wouldn't worry too much about the PREP kids. They'll grow up to make a lot of money and marry skinny little women who shop in Whole Foods and feed their husbands organic chicken. I'm a little more concerned about the kids at Ferris or Dickinson. Statistically, they're the ones who are in trouble.

Teenage boys eating junk food???? Oh the humanity.

The Jamie Oliver craze has some validity but it is about serving healthy school lunches in school. Since school lunch is funded with public dollars parents and the community can and should way in.

But this Jamie Oliver revolution is not about preventing free enterprise and street vendors. Buy a vendor license and sell healthy alternatives by Prep or talk to the vendor about healthy options.

You're not going to stop a bunch of teenagers from buying junk food and you can't stop free enterprise in America.

Next people will suggest banning the sale of devil dogs and potato chips at the supermarket.

mrasg1, they don't "allow this to happen" in Russia, Iran, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, etc. - so go there to live!!!

Things are that great for you that all you have to worry about is a street vendor trying to make a living by selling junk food?

Willing to bet big money that neither Ian or Mrasg have kids!

If God didn't mean us to eat junk food, he wouldn't have made it taste so good.

On a related note, maybe we can petition Gov. Xy to mandate that all junk food be made to taste bad. Somehow I don't think he's the man for that job.
We would've stood a better chance with Corzine in that respect.

I also don't think the school has any jurisdiction when it comes to food vendors outside the school.

I usually see the students spending their disposible cooporate income drinking coffee at The Legal Grind on Grand. They must have the jurisdiction because the street is closed during school hours.

Oh. The vendor is on the street between the two buildings?

That's a bit different.

Either way- During my years at Prep, I started the day off with a piece of pound cake and a cherry coke, both purchased in the school, and I turned out just fine. Relatively speaking.

If parents bothered to be parents and teach their children about proper nutrition, then we wouldn't have to worry. Or perhaps really all anyone should do is worry about their own children and stop trying parent for everyone else.

Well, teenagers are definitely going to eat junk food, there's no doubt about that. If it's not from a stand with an umbrella, then it'll be at McDonald's. I ate junk when I was a teenager, and I don't anymore.
