Re: Jersey City promoting five firefighters to battalion chief

Did anybody read the comments in the article about the promotions? Does anybody else find it difficult to believe that promotions will save taxpayer money in overtime?

They are promotions. That means some firemen are going up the ladder and getting more tax money.

Where is said savings?

Duh.

Re: County Executive Seeks to Preserve Shuttle Bus to LSP

Good for the County Executive. At least someone is fighting for Jersey City issues.

Where oh where is Jersey City's infamous Tourism Official? The one that was giving Liberty State Park away to Formula 1 for a Car Racing Track?

Jersey City officials should be fighting to preserve this shuttle which gets residents and visitors into this tourism destination.

Focus on Jersey City issues and try to understand that you have no jurisdiction over State property.

Duh.

Re: Junk food vendor at Saint Peters Prep downtown

Teenage boys eating junk food???? Oh the humanity.

The Jamie Oliver craze has some validity but it is about serving healthy school lunches in school. Since school lunch is funded with public dollars parents and the community can and should way in.

But this Jamie Oliver revolution is not about preventing free enterprise and street vendors. Buy a vendor license and sell healthy alternatives by Prep or talk to the vendor about healthy options.

You're not going to stop a bunch of teenagers from buying junk food and you can't stop free enterprise in America.

Next people will suggest banning the sale of devil dogs and potato chips at the supermarket.

Re: Friends of Liberty State Park oppose Formula One Grand Prix in Jersey City

It is nice to know that Amy Cradic the deputy commissioner of the State Department of Environmental Protection in Trenton respects the Friends of Liberty State Park and the legacy of Morris Pesin by communicating with Sam Pesin directly.

This bodes well for the future of LSP for now.

Too bad the unknown Jersey City Tourism Official is seemingly unaware of the Pesin family's contributions to Liberty State Park's founding and preservation efforts. The proposal made by this official started the whole debacle.

Who is this Jersey City Tourism Official? It seems odd that the official is unknown and unnamed in every article about this plan.

It is more odd that this official working on behalf of Jersey City's tourism promotion is so clueless about Liberty State Park that this official would give away our urban oasis to 'deep pockets' Ecclestone and Formula 1 without public input or at least consultation with FOLSP.

Where is the Tourism Official working? Who is the Official?
Since when does Jersey City have a Tourism Official and why doesn't anyone know anything about this person?

What happened is fear tactics are being employed by corrupt career politicians in order to try to paralyze the new free thinking board members.

Does anybody know if Jersey City is hiring an outside company to handle this reval?

Or will residents be subjected to having their homes inspected by employees of the building dept?

I ask because you know, JC inspectors leave much to be desired in the world of fairness.

Not sure it's such a good idea to have an air race with planes careening around National Landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Yikes!

But I'm glad it doesn't compromise Liberty State Park land for years to come like Formula 1 would.

DanL hit the nail on the head.

Jersey City needs a strategic plan and vision to drive the future of our city.

He asks, Why do we need to open the door to every commercial privatization plan that comes to the City?

That's my question too.

Not only are we opening the door to 'deep pockets' Formula 1, we're slamming it in the faces of Jersey City taxpayers at the same time.

To Dan L & r_pinkowitz - The proposal submitted by Jersey City's Tourism Official asks nothing from Formula 1 for Jersey City. Yet it offers countless dollars, tax dollars, our dollars, offering free security, staffing and funds to build this track for a private company.

On the issue of Liberty State Park already having a publicly approved master plan, DanL is right on that too.

Does anyone besides Dan L find it offensive and outrageous that the Tourism Offical for Jersey City is clueless about the landscape of the park ? LSP is Jersey City's most visited site in our City and this Tourism employee proposed a track which would carve out an area which has over 30 million dollars dedicated for restoration.

The question is how much will this cost our city beyond the loss of a beloved space?

Why doesn't the Tourism Official propose carving out Liberty National Golf Course?

Can you hear the JC Officials?
Oh God NO, not a private organizations space!
We have too much respect for them, lets keep screwing the taxpayers instead.

This is an excerpt taken directly from the Jersey City Tourism Official's proposal.

"Jersey City will provide:
o Assistance with securing permits, public safety services, environmental protection agency, as
well as coordinating city and state efforts to make this a successful endeavor."

Isn't that how a bunch of Jersey City Officials got in trouble?

Offering assistance to 'secure' permits before application is made?

State says its their land and their decision for a permit. State also says application has not been made to State yet. So how can a Jersey City official offer assistance with 'securing' permits? I think the Environmental Protection Agency is also a State agency so how can a Jersey City official 'provide' the EPA?

Business as usual.

Re: Dollar Buses

The problem with the dollar busses is they stop wherever the heck they want. I know at least three people that got into actual accidents with them and I have been in several near accidents.

With a regulated bus you have bus stops you can count on. You see signs as you approach them.

Drive behind or next to a dollar bus at your own peril. You never know when its going to come to a halt or switch a lane right in to you .

I think the city needs a better transport system but dollar busses need to be curbed!

For cripes sake, Liberty State Park is a park. Its not a place for commercial development. Morris Pesin fought for this piece of land to remain undeveloped so that city dwellers could enjoy nature in the urban environment.

Thanks Morris, RIP.

All these race car fans are saying Jersey City will lose revenue that Formula 1 would bring. Give me a break!

Friends of Liberty State Park posted the Jersey City Tourism Official's proposal for Formula One on their website. Read it yourself. Where do you see revenue coming in to Jersey City?

http://www.folsp.org/pdf/Proposal_for ... ity_Grand_Prix_Auto_Race2[.pdf

All I see in the proposal is revenue going OUT of the city's pocket to Formula One. The proposal offers funding to help build the track, give security and staffing.

Why would the city have to pay for the security, staffing and building of a track if Formula One that has such 'deep pockets'?

Jersey City is flat out broke and we're giving money away!

DUMB.

Sad that this cop is losing his job and years of his life over a hootchie girlfriend. Too bad his emotions got the best of him. He should have called the police on her and the other man for indecent exposure.

I'm new to this board but not to Jersey City. I joined because I'd like to join in the dialogue with JCListers. There's a lot to rant about in this city.

This may sound like a crazy suggestion given the state of city government these days but....isn't there an office in this city that someone can call with a tennant landlord relations issue?
