Steve Fulop used covid money to put in the budget last year when the board of ed raised their rates. But there is no covid money this year and taxpayers, except rent control and affordable housing, will feel the impact. There is a long time left and Fulop school funding is something he has to address for the next 3 years. After all, he gave away the school funding with 75 tax abatements.

I see your point, but actually I was speaking of the physical condition of the city. Yeah, yeah I know the "it's a city" routine
but it's a mess.

Who's in charge of the mess?

Come On Man - murders don't count for democrats unless they involve Police. With that big exception not much of the common street crime / subway assaults / looting of stores from NYC has crossed the Hudson. We don't have babies being shot in their car seats or in their beds. And overall the legal system seems to be working - we don't have repeat offenders out on bail targeting elderly Asians daily.

And most importantly for democrat voters, he has done a good job minimizing the imminent threat of White Supremacy/KKK/Nazis/Anti-Vaxxers/Parents demanding working schools and truck drivers flying red maple leaf flags. We don't want that kind of stuff here in JC.

Who ever heard of Murphy? Fulop will be fine - with the right amount of $$$, he has a pretty good story with his time in JC. His should be in good shape with the Left - big business will come around and he still has reasonable MOR credentials starting with being a Veteran. And Covid - he did a pretty good job with city response, out performing many NE governors.

I'm not convinced he can or will win or even get the democratic nomination. Outside of JC has anyone ever heard of him? You can say that about a lot of candidates but still.

Don't be so sure about Fulop becoming next governor. Murphy narrowly won and many people are sick and tired of failed liberal, progressive soft on crime policies.

Super PAC allied with Jersey City mayor now has more than $5 million banked

In what might be the strongest indicator yet that Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop is laying the groundwork for a gubernatorial run in 2025, a super PAC allied with him raised $1.4 million on Tuesday evening.

The Coalition for Progress Super PAC now has over $5 million cash-on-hand with plans to help Democratic candidates across the state this year.

Fulop was the headliner at the event and spoke of his views on economic development and expanding the middle class.

Fulop out-of-town party plans have critics grumbling

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal

JERSEY CITY — Mayor Steve Fulop's critics are taking aim at the mayor's plans to commemorate the end of summer with barbecues in Paramus and Freehold.

The mayor's camp says the shindigs — an end-of-summer party in Paramus on Sept. 17 and a fall kick-off in Freehold on Sept. 24 — are aimed at former Jersey City residents.

The locations of the parties have Fulop's local critics reiterating their claims that the mayor, who is expected to seek the Democratic nomination for governor next year, is not focused on the city he governs.

What do N.J. voters know of possible 2017 governor hopefuls? Very little, poll shows

...According to the survey, a fictional personality in New Jersey politics, Matt Alexander, is nearly just as well known as Fulop or Murphy. Alexander received 18 percent name recognition, compared to Murphy's 26 percent and Fulop's 25 percent.

"The takeaway? Both men have a way to go in introducing and defining themselves to voters..."

Paterson assemblywoman all but announces run for N.J. governor

By Jonathan Lin | The Jersey Journal
on May 21, 2016 at 7:09 PM, updated May 21, 2016 at 9:11 PM

JERSEY CITY -- Certainty about whether Assemblywoman Shavonda Sumter, D-Passaic, will be running for governor dramatically grew today -- though not exactly as she planned it.

At an event in Jersey City this morning where Sumter was scheduled to speak, state Sen. Sandra B. Cunningham, D-Jersey City, mistakenly introduced the assemblywoman as having already thrown her hat in the ring.

Fulop campaign strategies will need tweaking as gov primary nears| Political Insider

By Agustin C. Torres | The Jersey Journal
  February 27, 2016 at 7:38 AM

The gubernatorial primaries are about 14 months away. As always, our interest lies with the Democratic Party side of things in which Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop is expected to run.

And everyone does believe there's an unannounced "Fulop for governor" campaign on the horizon. Otherwise, why get all worked up about a super PAC unless critics are concerned that someone -- for example, a local big developer -- is trying to get around election donation laws? Or why have feathers been so ruffled about the mayor trying to change the season of city elections from spring to fall?

So let him run for Governor. He's an ambitious young man, IMO we need more of them. Just like we need ambitious, out-of-the-box thinkers to run for Mayor.

Fulop on 2017 elections: ‘I am not today actively running for governor’

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop told a room full of about 100 people at his latest town hall event that “I am not today actively running for governor,” explaining that is not a decision he plans on making until December of this year.

Scarinci: Fulop will have the money and political support to be the next governor

In a light of the fact that a new super PAC has raised $3.2 million and will likely support Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop in his pursuit of the governor’s seat in 2017, Donald Scarinci says Fulop will have the money and political support to prevail in the race.

Weinberg: ’66 2/3 percent’ chance Fulop or Sweeney is the next governor

State Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-37) quipped that there was a “66 2/3 percent” chance the next governor of New Jersey was at a Liberty State Park preservation press conference yesterday that featured Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and state Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-3).

would fulop even win. he strikes me as overly transparent and i wonder if he has spent enuff time as mayor of jc....fulop strikes me as a booker or christie wannabe. at least with booker, one could hope that he was really interesrested in seeing newark improve...with christie and fulop i think they view their constituencies as just a stepping stone to higher office. i see fulop as more of a hillary clinton/jeb bush as opposed to an obama (pre-potus)/sanders or even trump/carson. just my two cents.

i think fulop, at a minimum, needs to win/serve another term before running for governor

Fulop's gubernatorial ambitions are now clear | Morgan

By Earl Morgan | For The Jersey Journal The Star-Ledger
October 06, 2015 at  8:16 AM

A few things were cleared up by Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop's assertion that District 3 Freeholder Gerry Balmir has demonstrated his disloyalty by allowing his wife to take a job in the office of state Senate President Stephen Sweeney.

It establishes with certainty Fulop's gubernatorial ambitions. We know this because Sweeney is also planning to run for governor. Fulop is outraged that Balmir, to whom he all but delivered the freeholder's seat, allowed his spouse to consort with the enemy.

It exposes the lack of comity existing between Hudson County African-American elected officials. Balmir is seen by many in the Hudson County Democratic organization as a disloyal ingrate unwilling to take his place in the political pecking order.
