On the north side, the corner near Harborside 3 and Pier Apartments wasn't super packed and had a perfect site line to the barge parked just off the water in front of the Hyatt. Easy exit as this was the outskirts of the crowd.

I'm surprised no one got hurt as all the folks on the north side of the Hyatt pier rushed east after they realized they wouldn't be able to see anything.

Fulop's spokesperson said today they're exploring moving the event to Exchange Place going forward.

I agree, with better planning and crowd control, I think Exchange Place could be the overall better venue, especially if they get the Colgate Clock area reopened. Easier to get to for most Downtown residents and more money for local businesses. I think it's a win-win.

+1

Especially on finishing the Colgate Clock park.

with NYC as a backdrop, this was probably the prettiest fireworks display I've seen in ages.

did miss lounging out on a blanket in LSP, but the consolation prize was top-notch.

way to go, JC!

Surprised that it could be done or that J.C. actually pulled it off ? I bet this was practiced many times over the years just in case of a sudden change such as that lack of a signature. I'm more surprised that J.C. could pull this off but cannot manage to fill a pothole properly or not fill it at all.

it was crowded but i was able to get near the waterfront around 9ish. Had a nice view of the fireworks. It looked fun with the rides and food trucks - I wish I had gone earlier to enjoy the full day. Overall I had a good time

I do think it's a great use of taxpayer money - why can't people STFU and just go have fun and enjoy the event? There are lots of municipalities that don't get to do something like this.

Someone was paid to erect barriers keeping folks out of Liberty State Park, and state park police remain on duty, preventing anyone sneaking past the barriers.

How does closing Liberty State Park save the state any money?

Surely if the objective was to shut down state operations and save money, leaving the park open and unattended should be the result.

Robin.

As we celebrate July 4th, and honor Kool and the Gang, many don't know that Kool and the Gang were there in the very early 70's when hip hop was born

FYI. Parking for the fireworks by the zeppelin parking lot - from grand street take a turn on jersey avenue towards the foot bridge and turn left at the end. No idea about capacity though so you may come early.

Everything you need to know about Jersey City's July 4 festival

BY CAITLIN MOTA
The Jersey Journal

JERSEY CITY - Own a car and live near Exchange Place? It's about to get tougher to find a parking space over the next two days.

With the city forced to relocate its annual July 4 Freedom and Fireworks festival on the heels of the state government shutdown, multiple street closures around Exchange Place have been announced beginning Monday afternoon. The closures will remain in effect until at least early Wednesday morning.

The annual all-day event, which features a headlining performance from Kool & The Gang this year, is normally held at Liberty State Park. The park remains closed as part of the state government shutdown after a budget failed to pass by the July 1 deadline.

City officials say more closures are possible depending on the volume of people who attend the festival, which in the past has drawn more than 100,000 people.

Here's a current list of street closures and no parking zones:

Montgomery Street - no parking between Washington Street and Exchange Place beginning at 5 p.m. Monday.

Christopher Columbus Drive - no parking between Washington Street and Exchange Place beginning at 5 p.m. Monday

Greene Street - no parking between Montgomery Street and Second Street beginning at 5 p.m. Monday.

2nd Street - no parking between Hudson Street and the Waterfront. That restriction began Monday at noon and will remain in place until 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Hudson Street - no parking between First and Second streets. That restriction began Monday at noon and will remain in place until 5 p.m. Wednesday.

In addition to road closures, Citi Bike has taken its Exchange Place location offline until Wednesday morning.

Parking around Exchange Place is expected to be tight and mass transit may be the best way to reach the festival. Port Authority Police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said additional officers are being added to "address the anticipated increased PATH ridership for the holiday and for the festivities."

PATH is also encouraging users to purchase their fare in advance to avoid overcrowding.

The city has also had to consolidate its live entertainment from two stages to one because of limited space. The main stage is set up directly on Exchange Place.

A beer tent will be located directly outside the PATH station with food vendors lining the streets in the direct area of Montgomery Street. Carnival rides will be located in the parking lot located on the corner of Christopher Columbus Drive and Greene Street.

A finalized map of the festival has not yet been released.

I wonder if the County said no?

The county? Prieto is the reason this all went topsy turvy.

Put down your partisan glasses for a moment, Lincoln is a county park and JC would need county permission to hold an event there.
