Um...Michelangelo's Last Judgement on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican is full of naked and half naked people in close proximity to each other for christ's sake. His statue of David, a biblical figure, stands in full naked glory, pubic hair and all. Equating nudity with pornography is a product of your own perverted mind.
I do not compare these photos to Michelangelo; they're mediocre and derivative at best.

Huh? That has got to be the most outrageous thing yet. "Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed most commonly on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world." There were christians CENTURIES before a formal day of celebration was designated. In fact, many cultures celebrate January 6th, Epiphany, as the true birthdate of Christ. You disagree with anything that does not fit neatly into your myoptic world & that is truly sad because there are as many good things happening, as bad, that we should all be contributing to.

Who said I want to ban anything? Those parents have a legitimate gripe. Yes, I think trees in urban areas near water, sewerage, and gas lines should be in pots. But I have no opinion on the rest. Actually Halloween means Holy Evening before All Saints Day, so I wouldn't want to ban that and without Christmas, there would not be Christians, I would not want to ban that either.

If you had to pay an entry fee or it was displayed in an art gallery then no-body should feel that the artwork is inappropriate, however if you're displaying it in a condo lobby then that's a different thing altogether as its a common area for all residents.
Did the residents vote on it and were resident fees used to purchase it?

This art does send mixed messages, if any school age student touched someone in that fashion, he/she would be in trouble. Touching has gotten some students in trouble.

You are making my point... this is a private property and this became a news story for discussion because of the larger social issues that you summed up nicely. You talk and teach your children in an age appropriate manner. Who knows what a 5 year old is thinking when they hear some dope screaming and swearing into their cellphone on the street? Something clicked into my mind the other day with the cold weather coming about those cold winter days February when the US male population could not wait for the Sports Illustrated Swim Suit issue to come on the newsstands... that was a media sensation then and it is hardly noteworthy today. Parents have a tough job to do with so many outside influences... good or bad. Why make it more complicated in their living spaces even if it is a common area. I am not a censorship person but sometimes a little more consideration for all the residents in the building goes a long way.

There is a difference, HeightsBrat, you cannot change people's attire you see in the street but you can change the pictures on the wall.

I'm with you on this. People are going into OMG mode over pictures hanging in a building that may/may not be offensive but fail to realize that our own children dress in a pornographic manner. Just walk down any street & you see children & adults alike with their pants hanging below their arse's, young women with body parts jiggling with little left to the imagination. The artwork can be taken down but what are you going to do about the exposure the children are subjected to everyday?

I mean, people can be offended at anything for any reason. We live in a society where some people were offended at the new Star Wars movie because one Jedi was female and another was black. Why not be offended at some harmless pictures that weren't even sexual?
Regardless, there is nothing here to "protect" children from. If you want to claim there is, I'd like you to explain the harm they're being protected from. The fact that the parents are offended doesn't mean that the children would be harmed, any more than they're harmed by a black or female Jedi in the next star wars movie. Also, I'd like to extend a hardy "screw you" to many people in this thread. I'm usually the more conservative guy in the room but holy crap, this is ridiculous. Quote:

So you are criticizing parents who want to protect their children from something they find offensive??? This building is part of their living environment, not the food court at the Newport Mall. They have a right to object. Curious why the SL only published two photos from the catalogue... were they the only ones fit to print?

I find this hilarious, particularly from the point of view of "omg, young children might see this!" Have any of you outraged people been around young children? The sexual connotations you bring to the artwork are the product of an adult mind. It isn't inherent in the artwork, and certainly not going to be brought by a prepubescent child's mind.
Which is all pretty amusing since any child can turn on the TV or browse common internet sites and see things that are dramatically more sexual in nature at any given moment. Hell, certain advertisements are more overtly sexual in nature than this.

Wow, if you think this is porn, how about all the biniki girls in commercials / music videos / billboards that's everywhere!?!??! I think these "art work" (the "art" part being questionable) are the least of my concerns, and I have two young boys - it's sad that I can't even let my boys watch music videos anymore because they are so sexualized!!!

The good father works for an organization that for centuries employed and subsidized artists and encouraged them to push the envelope. In the church's collection, nudity, torture and martyrdom are all represented, some images being very upsetting to me (I turn away from Saint Sebastian, for example). In addition, the good father has been well educated and like AJ Potter Stewart would know porn when he saw it.

The Mezuzah would be in their doorframe. I don?t care about you blessing your condo. Considering the Catholic Church chooses to depict a nearly naked man with spikes through his hands, thorns around his head and slashes and cuts dripping blood throughout his body, I find it rather comical that a bunch of healthy people in a photograph would be alarming, disturbing or embarrassing?
