Not many restaurants in JC have the extra space to have special events every week. Talde can run its regular menu in the restaurant and have an Israeli BBQ in a different space.

Judging from the Yelp reviews, the Talde outpost in Jersey City is noticeably worse than the Brooklyn location.
A shame really.

What other restaurant in Jersey City is doing interesting things like this: https://instagram.com/p/8MptlhJI8Z/?taken-by=taldejc. Unless you want to "take it back", stop bitching and be more appreciative of your local businesses.

The restaurant has been full every time I've eaten there since the tasting menu change. When you're serving a 2 hour long menu, you are going to have significant numbers of empty tables early in the night no matter what. No idea why people think that they are struggling.

What a shame for Thirty Acres, I wonder why they don't change back to their original format. This was really the first interesting restaurant in JC.

When 30 Acres first opened it was great: BYOB and a Menu that changed often enough that you could go 2x/month and always have a good time that was light on the wallet. Then they got the liquor license and the price of dinner went way up. They lost a lot of regulars just for that. But then they went the tasting menu route and killed their business. Per person it's $75 plus the optional wine pairing for $55/person. With tax and tip you're in the $300 range for a couple. I don't see how they can possibly be covering expenses at this point. Would be surprised if they don't close by the end of this year... I only needed one visit at Talde - overall pretty bad and I have no intention of going back-

It seems that 30 Acres isn't nearly as crowded as when it was before they went tasting menu.

Every time I've eaten at Thirty Acres, it's a bit empty at 7-7:30, but fills up as the night goes on. Given their format, they really only need to (and can only) turn tables once or twice a night, so it's expected that there are some empties at the early part of prime dinner time.
And, I wasn't saying that Talde is on the same level of Thirty Acres, I was saying that Talde and Thirty Acres, unlike nearly all other restaurants in DTJC, try to push boundaries instead of executing a standard cuisine.

On the topic of 30 Acres, anytime I pass by there in the evening (7 or 8pm) on a Friday or Saturday night, there are usually only a few tables occupied. Seems kind of odd.

I'd say that Talde, alongside Thirty Acres and Union Republic, is one of the few actually interesting restaurants in DTJC. Don't get me wrong, both Talde and UR have flaws, but, come on, at least they are trying. I've dined at Talde five times, I believe, have taken both out-of-town friends and my family from the suburbs, and everyone has enjoyed it - from the foodies to the normals.
Their cocktail program is at least as good as Dullboy, their food is innovative without being stuffy, and while not every dish 100% works, people I bring are consistently impressed by the short rib kare kare, the blue crab fried rice, and both bao. Plus, they have Sorachi Ace, one of the best "food beers" on the planet, on tap. DTJC has plenty of solid food. Solid, tasty... but mostly safe food. I, for one, am pleased that Dale brought his more adventurous side over here from Brooklyn, because the absolute last thing we need is another safe, well-executed, but ultimately boring, restaurant.

I went there for my birthday last winter, I did not like the food at all. The portions are very small and the food delivery was discombobulated. It felt more like tapas than a regular dinner. I didn't like the mix of crusines very much. We all agreed the fried rice was terrible and confusing. The service wasn't great but they were still pretty new at that point. It is a really pretty space but the flavor combinations were not for me. I think it depends on your palette. The flavors had a very earthy taste so them and that is not my jam.
My theory with JC resteraunts ID to try every one you csn at least once.

I have been to Talde 2 x, and both times the food was OK, not great but OK but it was much better than South House. I think its crowded because people are hungry for a new scene, but if the food does not improve soon the crowds will die down.

Same here, though once was enough for Talde. No desire to return. We've been to Osteria half a dozen times for dinner and brunch, and will continue to return. The food and service there are great.

I need to know if TALDE is good or bad from people who actually went.
I've been hearing conflicting reports. Some hate the food. Claiming they had much better foood elsewhere but everytime I pass the joint on a Friday night, 2 Friday nights to be exact the place is packed! While the Italian next door is near empty.

If that's your measure, then how do you rate McDonald's?
Tried it twice, will never return. Osteria next door, on the other hand, is high on my list. Amazing they're under the same roof.

Funny someone brought up this restaurant.
This is, by far, the WORST food i have ever had in jersey city both in term of taste, quality, and value. And i been to pretty much every restaurant here Dont even know where to begin... 1) First the food is not asian nor chinese, by having a few chinese bowls does not make it so. 2) Second the quality/taste of the food is absolutely horrible. The raman is nothing more than the 99 cents instant noodles with an added egg, nothing like the restaurant or even takeout ramans from komegeshi / vivi etc.. not even close. We also ordered chicken wings, it was so salty and heavily sauced, it's basically inedible. We had to wash it in glass of water first. There was a few other dishes, all terrible. 3) Third, the portion is extremely small while price is not. We ordered the lobster "bao" that cost just below $20, so was expecting at least a po boy type sandwich, what they bought was 2 bite sized wrap (the kind you used for peking duck) the size of a pingpong ball, with hardly any lobsters meat but few small pieces. Also tasted horrible, i think it was frozen or something. how they can mess up lobster meat is beyond me. The raman was about 1/3 the size you get from komegeshi with no toppings except an egg. I can unequivocally say this is absolutely the worst restaurant i have ever been to in jersey city, in term of food and value. It almost feel like a scam. I am not a picky eater, very tolerant of different type of food. They should just stop serving dinner/lunch menus and leave this as a bar only with a snack menu.

Side note: anyone know if Talde / Carrino plans on planting trees in their sidewalk cuts, or do we get to enjoy those circles of concrete filler for the duration?
Also: huge props to them for always keeping their sidewalk clear since opening. They outshone their slushy Erie Street neighbors by a mile in this regard.

Add me to the list of people who hate the communal table. One should certainly make a reservation in advance for a real table.
But, no matter, as I was not impressed with the food at all. Perhaps we chose poor selections from the menu, but of the four plates we shared, not one made me say, "oh I must come back and have that again." In fact, I needed some Tums. I've heard such rave reviews about this place and the Brooklyn "vibe." Brooklyn can keep it. The place is trying too hard to be trendy, and the food doesn't make putting up with the communal table and house music worthwhile. We don't need that nonsense in Chilltown.

Perhaps there should be a TABLE JERSEY CITY thread created so all concerned parties can debate & bitch about different table experiences in Jersey City.

Communal tables can be fine. The ones at Porta are comfortable, for instance.
The one at Talde though, is terrible. But, making a reservation, and getting a regular table is not hard. The menu is a bit of a novelty, and an occasional treat, so it's not a big deal. At the least though, they need to lower the music a bit, and finish the underside of the table.

I have stated my own displeasure with the communal table. Others are into it. I think that's fine. This is why I won't be back there. I'll let others eat at the communal table and enjoy it.
