What I really want to know is, who is willing to take bets on how soon after inauguration will it stop working? And, how many breakdowns will it experience within its first year of operation??

Because, given the frequency of breakdowns for the escalators at Grove AND Exchange Place, I fully expect this elevator to be down for maintenance and repairs at least two days per month, if not more.

It also takes about three months to build a Boeing 777, but that still has nothing to do with the price of tea in China. Duration of construction isn?t necessarily related to scale.

A new elevator for a subway station? That sounds like a two year job, easily.

Will there be an elevator to the platform level, where the train is?

Not wanting to be lumped in with the Debbie Downers and Negative Norberts, I look forward to taking my grocery cart - aka The Beemer - to Whole Foods, Le District, Eataly Due and possibly Anthony Bourdain's Singapore Market.

Years ago, the MTA put in an elevator at the R station at White Hall Street in downtown nyc. I don't know what other work was included (or not), but that project also felt like it took 10 years, if not more.

Empire State building: 15 months. I hear there's some elevators in it to boot.

It took seven years to construct the Holland Tunnel and this will take two years for a stinking elevator!! Criminal! PA should be shut down and cleaned out. Oh, by the way, the Tunnel was built over 90 years ago!

It is a Port Authority construction project... Two years might be optimistic, really.

True, but I'm just happy it doesn't look like they will close that entrance for two years.

Of course, I suspect the Marin Bvld entrance will be closed for years because a hotel will be constructed directly on top of the entrance, so they can't close 2 out of the 3 available exits.

Construction to begin on $4M Grove Street PATH station elevator

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal The Jersey Journal
April 21, 2015 at  5:55 PM

JERSEY CITY — Construction is set to begin on a $4.04 million project to add an elevator to the Grove Street PATH station.

A federal judge in 2011 ordered the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the PATH system, to make the Downtown Jersey City station accessible to the disabled. The decision came as the result of a lawsuit filed against the bi-state agency by two nonprofits 10 years ago.

Construction on the elevator, to be located on the southern side of Columbus Drive just east of Grove Street, is expected to be completed by the summer of 2017, a Port Authority official said.

The plaintiffs' attorney, Robert Stulberg, of Manhattan firm Broach & Stulberg, told The Jersey Journal his clients are "gratified" to see their "persistent efforts" to make this station accessible are coming to fruition.

And lose the flood of people rushing for a train that may or may not be theirs? Where's the sport in that?

No! They would rather you find out while at the platform. Because having frustrated riders is a surefire way to ensure you have a peaceful environment where people are packed in like sardines.

it's amazing that the port authority talks about how much money PATH loses, but what they don't talk about is how much less money the port authority would lose if they made better decisions, improved efficiency

There was a thread a while back because the PA lost a lawsuit because the Grove Path was not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. I think that is why they are installing this elevator.

I'm more curious as to if this is being built in a spot that would afford extending the Grove platform.

Escalators at Secaucus train station still broken after almost 5 months

?The parts that needed to ordered have to come from overseas manufacturers and do take some time to be manufactured and shipped to the U.S.," NJ Transit said in its statement.?

How long will it take? 5 years? 10 years? Or will it be 20 years?

Just want to set my expectations properly.

That will only actually work about one third of the time.
