Call Fulop's decision to hire on McGreevy a gift or a hand-out but either way, McGreevey is going to be scrutinized and watched with a magnifying glass. McGreevey's past foibles only make his new found employment that much more precious and serious to him.

I'm willing to give him this chance.

Stem cell research funding? How has that worked for NJ taxpayers? Even gays aren't happy with the NJ domestic partnership laws. Needle exchange is so minor as to be laughable. What did he do for public safety, schools, taxes, education reform? McGreevey is a pariah among both parties in NJ, it's not like he's got juice and influence to bring some $ and support to JC. His sexual peccadilloes and the way he injected it into OUR government was an epic disgrace. Could Fulop have not found someone without 10 porter baggage to take this job?

He as also involved with "pay to play" political corruption as governor, state assemblyman and mayor with fat cat democrat political donors, so I guess that qualifies him for Hudson County experience... plus he jeopardized the safety of citizens with his NJ Homeland Security appt. He has a history professionally and privately of making bad decisions. I wish the man well in his private "post political" life but this doesn't look good.

This is a political job. Fulop tried to make him the Business Administrator, but the state said no, so this is the way around it. If you are running as a reformer, then act the part.

'could do worse' is setting the bar waaaay too low for a mayor who wants to be a reformer. As far as 'great credentials', McGreevey has no accomplishments as Governor that I can recall.

dafuq is this!?

Seriously? We get one of the most disgraced politicians in Jersey to run a program that brings criminals to Jersey City?

At least we don't have Spitzer and Weiner, but my god! Unbelievable!

Disappointing to say the least.

Fulop is the 'commander and chief'of JC - Lets hope this appointment doesn't cause him to 'fall on his own sword' if McGreevey screws up!

Lets also hope Fulop employs an internal affairs officer to keep tabs on all his senior executive appointees!

Every NJ resident I know remembers McSlimey as another corrupt politician, who in his private life endangered his wife (wives) by risky, anonymous highway rest stop sex. And then spent time covering up his public and private behavior rather than admitting it (until forced to under duress).

McGreevey says new role will help create "one Jersey City"

By Terrence T. McDonald/The Jersey Journal
July 12, 2013 at 4:15 PM

Former Gov. James McGreevey?s new gig with Jersey City will help further Mayor Steve Fulop?s pledge to unify the city, the ex-governor told The Jersey Journal today.

The revitalization of the Waterfront should benefit residents who live in the city?s more distressed neighborhoods, said McGreevey, who in September will start a new job heading a job-training city agency and help to develop a reentry program for ex-inmates.

?Jersey City is blessed with a mayor who understands that employment and training has to be accessible to every family,? he said. ?And particularly for the ex-offender that we have to be creative in securing their sobriety and placing them on a path to productive citizenship.?

The former governor, who resigned in 2004 after revealing his homosexuality, said working for Jersey City is not a step toward a political comeback.

?God forbid,? he said. ?Those days are long in the rearview mirror.?

Fulop?s office announced McGreevey?s new job this morning, saying McGreevey will make $110,000 as executive director of the Jersey City Employment & Training Commission.

McGreevey, 55, has spent the last several years working with female inmates at the Hudson County jail, ministering to them and mentoring them once they are released. The recidivism rate among inmates in the program, he said, has dipped dramatically as a result.

?The opportunity to work with these women is a great source of strength and blessing to me,? he said.

McGreevey, who lives in Plainfield, has no immediate plans to move to Hudson County.

The Fulop-McGreevey partnership is an interesting one, said Jonathan Wharton, a political-science professor at Stevens Institute of Technology who worked in the state Legislature when McGreevey was governor.

Fulop has cast himself as the man who will reform the notoriously dirty politics of Jersey City. But working with a governor who resigned in disgrace amid corruption allegations will likely not tarnish the new mayor, Wharton said.

Most New Jersey residents probably remember McGreevey?s famous 2004 coming out and his messy divorce rather than the scandal that erupted when he hired his secret lover as a homeland security advisor, according to Wharton.

?For someone like Fulop, a prominent name like McGreevey will help him bolster the city and his administration,? he said.

Bad choice, with no upside for Fulop. McSlimey never came clean over his Israeli lover and the way he was installed in a position that he was unqualified for. I'm surprised at the choice. It makes you wonder why Fulop chose him.

I am trying hard to give Fulop a chance even though i don't see a great deal of hope and change coming from him.

Seriously, you couldn't find anyone else for this position? As others have pointed out, Princess McGreevy used his gayness to mask all the political sleaze he was rolling in. And he still deflects his crimes by claiming "he's a gay american". ROFL!

Who else is coming on board in a administrative or advisory role?

John Corzine?

Robert Janiszewski?

Jersey City's visibility is definitely on the rise and we need people that are smart, motivated and passionate to continue the progress. I think that despite his personal drama and mistakes, his experience is valuable, especially to this new administration. He's from here and I think he can offer a lot of insight so I am willing to see what he has to offer.

If he's going to provide services to Jersey City, I don't see why Woodbridge would pay his salary.

McGreevey just announced that he would not be running for office in the future.

http://blog.nj.com/njv_tom_moran/2013 ... and_spitzer_can_come.html

I take his desire to serve at face value, and this job utilizes his experience and skills. And his political connections can help as well.
