I didn't think it was possible to top the taco truck thread. This one is more crazy than funny though.

Did they even try to get a license to show copyrighted works in a commercial venue?

Of all the great scenes from a classic movie you choose that one?

I like the idea of the movie night and the 2 dollar tacos with chips and salsa..........but they need to fire the brain trust behind the marketing. Jeeeezzzzzz!

At least they have people talking.......but i get the feeling it's more towards the negative.

Is this a joke? Why would that image from The Shining make anyone want to eat there?

Not quite sure what to even say about that horrific advertisement. Completely inappropriate for a site like this - but clearly in line with a clueless marketing ethic.

Webbie - please - your discretion in place of someone with none...

Instead of the Dopeness, cut to the chase, save time and money by renaming it the Outofbusiness.

Stupid name, mediocre food, so-so location. The Dopeness needs help...now!

As I recall some of the public battles, a big part of the problem is that once a location gets a license, it's nearly impossible to revoke, no matter how poor a neighbor they might become under a subsequent owner. So people will fight tooth and nail to keep a little bistro from getting a license, since if they close and become a raucous lowlife bar, there's nothing that can be done.

I'm not sure where I've seen liquor licenses listed for around $1 million, but I have looked into it and seen them listed around that much on a few websites, and I have also heard it from other people.

Tommy - where did you see the 1mil price for a consumption license in JC? As of February there was one available for use anywhere in JC for 125K, if I understand this blog correctly. Is this location within the Restaurant Row area? If so, doesn't that give it a leg up in getting a license? Unfortunately, this space and the space next to Basic in HP seem to be jinxed.

The space itself would make for a GREAT bar. There is a cool looking antique bar in there. Was this place ever a bar in recent history? I can't recall.

Regarding the Dopeness - I commend ANYBODY willing to open a small business, and especially in Jersey City. I have not been a customer at The Dopeness, but I honestly think that if you're going to be a restaurant, the name "The Dopeness" is a little silly and you might have a hard time getting customers to dine there. I think the name would be a stretch even if it was a bar, but as a restaurant, it's a bit ridiculous. I'm sorry to be so blunt. I do hope to check it out though...the space looks really cool.

That doesn't make sense.

What doesn't make sense to you. If you are a restaurant, to open BYOB is no big deal (except if you charge and illegal corkage fee). But when you are are bar/lounge and open without a liquor licence? Does it make sense to open a zoo with no animals?

Disagree. That thinking is what JC was, not what it could be.
1. You have an apartment to rent, and you have one guy come in with years of employment history and steady income, and offers $1000 per month.
or
2. You have a guy with no employment history, no verifiable way to make and income, but a pocket of cash who is willing to give you $1200.
Who do you rent to? It's not about the offer, it's about long-term vision. If you want steady rent for the next 10 years, you take the first guy. If you are only interested in the highest offer, you take the second, and have to turn it over time, after time, after time.
Then, what are the tenants plans? Are they putting money into the property, or are they changing the sign and opening up? It matters.
Landlord's have a choice.

Insanely bad. Must be a single owner, because there is no way more than one person would think this would be a good idea.

This place has 6 months and a few gun-play incidents before it closes.

Had to run a search.

New Downtown Boutique Wolf Juice Adds Splash of Street Style from JC?s Other Neighborhoods

By Summer Dawn Hortillosa
Jersey City Independent
Jan 25th, 2013

UPDATE: Wolf Juice closed at this location April 2013

Downtown Jersey City just got a little more ?dope.?

Since opening on Black Friday last year, local boutique Wolf Juice has been offering what owner Earl Davis (also known as Ego) calls some of the illest threads in Chilltown.

The 27-year-old Heights resident, who grew up in the West Side neighborhood, says this is his first independent business venture, which got its name from a play on nicknames he?s acquired over the years. Davis says decided to open the store simply because he ?wanted to do something great in (his) city.?

The shop currently carries a range of men?s street wear (women?s clothes are coming soon, Davis says) from brands like Mishka, Pyknic and local design company Good Shepherd, often on consignment. They also offer various garment services like silk screening and embroidery. At the store, you can also find thrift and vintage clothing and their own creations. All of Wolf Juice?s originals are made using American Apparel products or some of their vintage stock, freshly remixed by an in-house seamstress.

Totally agree - I got takeout. Food was dreadful - dry, tasteless. It's kind of sad, but this sort of food is done better at the Future Chinese resto, in my opinion, although I wouldn't want to eat there.
