anybody know what's keeping Torico's from putting tables or benches outside?

I love having them in my neighborhood, but get pretty tired of picking up discarded styrofoam cups from my stoop.

Went in yesterday for the first time and I was so enthralled by their "tropical" flavours!

I spoke Spanish to the older guy who encouraged me to sample the soursop/guanabana, guava/guayaba, maracuya and lulo (don't remember the English words for them), which made selecting a $6 pint a bit more difficult. Figuring that many of these flavours just don't get made by Haagen Dazs we splurged on two but left them in my friends freezer untasted!

Oh, the torture!!!!

He was also pleased to hear that he was so well regarded by the online community. He had printouts of reviews posted on Kannekt and I told him that many others were extolling his virtues in the WWW.

This place is fantastic, but I have just one complaint.

A pint runs over $6. Now that in itself is understandable since you're getting homemade ice cream from a parlor rather than ben & jerry's. And it's really good too. But they give it to you in the flimsiest containers and they always break or fall apart on me. I really wish they just had better containers.

They are also offering espresso, lattes, etc, and tons of different flavors of their soft-serve ice cream.

Sherbet is the proper term. "Sherbert" is a regional pronunciation that occasionally gets transcribed phonetically by those who don't know the proper spelling. It's kind of like writing "pahk" instead of park when you're from Boston.

Boy, I sound like a nerd, don't I?

Yes, you do, but you're incorrect. "Sherbert" is now accepted as a secondary but correct spelling, with its own pronunciation, by the latest editions of at least two of the most authoritative and respected American dictionaries (Merriam-Webster and the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition).

All the musty old unabridged dictionaries on my desk, however, omit "sherbert," so I suspect it has only recently been accepted by the lexi-gods.

"Pahk," by contrast, appears in no English dictionaries that either of us has ever seen -- except possibly the Red Sawx Fan Dictionary from Bucky Dent Publications!

I agree.... there's something about the outside appearance... the wood shingles and take-out window that says it's a good place. And it is.

Yes this place is great. I could tell from the outside it was a great place, cause it isnt focused on that commercial mess. I have made this a summer weekend ritual for over three years. And yes its been my quiet kept secret! Glad more people are getting to know about it, but dont want to fight the lines!! LOL..

I have never had a flavor I didnt like.

Hope you all enjoy...seems the secret is out!!Quote:

There is a difference between sorbet and sherbert, beyond regional colloquialisms.

Sherbert contains milk where sorbet does not. So if the product has milk in it, it cannot officially be considered a sorbet.

Just an interesting tidbit.

The pumpkin is so good that you can't wait for autumn to get here so you have an excuse to eat more of it. also the coconut (which i normally dislike due to gorging on it as a child in my native country) is phenom!

This place is great, and one of the few places I've been able to find good cinnamon ice cream. Its unbelievable by itself, with apple pie or on a warm brownie.

I'd have to agree with the constructive criticism that they need sturdier "to go" pint containers. I have sent many a spoon through the current cheap styrofoam containers.
