On another car related point. The police could easily reduce crime and raise revenue if they just stopped and towed every car with overly tinted windows. You're not allowed to have the front windows tinted and yet tons of cars have them. Its already illegal to have the windows who knows what else they do.

While most get stripped, a lot more then you may think are never even recovered at all. In 2010 a little over 27% of carjacked cars were never recovered, in 2009 a little over 36% were never recovered. So in those 2 years 413 cars simply vanished, no recovered stripped frame or anything.

Last year a large amount of carjackers were arrested after the spike in Essex county. Over the last couple weeks a few have been caught also. As long as who ever is buying these cars stays uncaught you could arrest all the carjackers you want but they will just be replaced by another criminal looking to make fast money. And yes many do get shipped over seas.

Yea that wasn't them for a lot of these JC carjackings. The description I read somewhere was that he is... Black with dreads, 5 foot 9 with pimples. Hangs out by bostwick & mlk and also by mallory & boyd. Latest car jacking was a silver grand marquis that got jacked in the area of virginia & mlk yest (Monday 4.2.12)

Officers responding on a report of men dismantling a car found a vehicle parked on the sidewalk and blocking the entrance to a parking lot behind Ruiz's residence, reports said.
With guns unholstered and using flashlights, the cops went down the alley and found Ruiz and Cowart taking apart a car that had its doors, trunk and hood open, reports said.
Ruiz dropped a car seat and ran, but was caught, reports said, adding that Cowart got out of the car, jumped a fence and ran but was also captured.

I doubt it's these 2 who are responsible for all of the carjackings. There is a system in place that sends cars overseas and it runs through Newark.

I wonder if the car was just plain stolen or carjacked?

I got pulled over late at night last week in my new car (that has temp tags). I wasn't speeding but the pulling over felt very serious by a very unmarked car (I won't name it to keep the good work going). Very quickly the cops relaxed as they saw that the paperwork was legitimate. When they saw out-of-state paper plates on an attention catching car, they wanted to check it out. They asked me to be careful, especially if I get a rear-ending.

They are on it to an extent, if you think about it, it'll be tough to tilt these arrest statistics and tough to eliminate. And now I think perhaps this new car wasn't such a good idea. What can I do? I love cars and bikes.

I'm not even sure what the best strategy is. Lady gassed it away with her kids in the car. What about the guy who got shot dead? Did he not give up the car?

In the news report I watched the lady told the gunman that she had her kids with her and he told her to take her kids and get out... she chose to ignore him , I would have taken my kids and gotten out I dont know though in the heat of the moment I have no idea.

They also mentioned that with the newer cars with the electronic chip needed to start the car the days of hotwiring is dwindling and that car jackings will be on the rise because the newer cars that the thiefs want must have their keys to work. (mine ..scary!)

So there was another carjacking attempt on the news today. Not JC but at Jersey Gardens at 3 pm or so. They found the guys and arrested them. Wonder if they have anything to do with the carjackings here? Very scary and we were thinking of going to Jersey Gardens today.

So what DO you do if someone approaches you with a gun and your family inside? This woman drove off and they shot at her. She is lucky they weren't good shots.

I can't say that it does not bother me because it does. But I dealt with worse scum in JC in the eighties. I am curious to see how the newcomers to the "gentrified Jersey City" will deal with it... Are they going to run back to Mommy in Nebraska?

Healy and Sottolano aleardy sold us out to Newark, all the low income housing on Ocean ave are being filled by former Newark residents, Soon Greenville, JSQ, Heights, and West Bergen will be nothing more than Newark rejects.

Booker is using his Zuckerberg millions to flush the Newark cockroaches our way.

Give Healy time to deal with it.

Sadly, JC does not have extra $100 mil like Newark does.

I think the community has to step up its game, the last anti-crime rally I attended only had 50 residents show up. Disgraceful.

Hey JCPD you look pretty bad here. Criminals are going to start feeling quite emboldened if there continue to be 2 carjackings a week with no arrests.

Perhaps Comey could borrow Snooki's Black with Pink trim Escalade and roll around crime prone neighborhoods at night...

Jersey City carjacker takes vehicle from man and his mother, 70, outside McDonald's on Communipaw Avenue

Published: Thursday, March 29, 2012, 3:00 AM
By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal

A 70-year-old woman was forced from a vehicle at gunpoint Tuesday in Jersey City?s 12th carjacking of the year, according to police reports.

The 42-year-old owner of the 2010 Nissan Maxima was returning to his vehicle outside a McDonald?s restaurant on Communipaw Avenue about 10 p.m. when a man pointed a silver pistol at him and said, ?You know what time it is,? police reports said.

The gunman took the man?s wallet and ordered the man?s 70-year-old mother out of the passenger seat at gunpoint, reports said.

With the car engine running, the car thief jumped in the vehicle and sped away, reports said.

The carjacker was described as being roughly 6-foot, between 28 and 30 years old, with shoulder-length dreadlocks and wearing a gray-hooded sweatshirt and a black baseball cap, reports said.

Anyone with information on the carjacking is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.

Saw two patrol cars, one unmarked and the other JCPD pull over a POS honda on Manila today at about 7pm. It was right in front of the P.A.C.O. apartments.
There were four black teenagers in the car, guys and girls. The patrol cars had the street blocked and the cops jumped out guns drawn saying "Throw your weapon out the window!" then "hands on the dash!" I didn't see a weapon get thrown but my view was obscured.
Traffic backed up quite a bit while the cops dealt with this. I wanted to stay and watch but figured I should probably get out of there in case the weapon was a gun and the suspect decided to use it.
Wonder what it was all about and hopefully arrested carjackers.

Scared him off, the guy saw the gun and took off. I'm not sure what kind of gun he had. I know he kept it right by the driver seat, kind of in between the seat and console.

Hey elsie, Did he use it? Did he shoot the carjacker or just "scare" him off to carjack the next person?

So glad I am moving!!!! Picking up my car today, if I can just avoid being car jacked between now and Saturday I'll be good to go.

My ex was involved in an attempted car jacking in Atlanta. He carried a gun in his car though - almost everyone does in Atlanta - he was quick enough to grab it, saved himself and his car.
