While it was not a restaurant and only a food truck, I miss the Harvest Cart. That was the best food truck ever. They used to park on 8th St in front of Hamilton Park. The previous owner of what is now the Hamilton Inn complained about them and Harvest Cart was removed.
I also miss the days when Marco Pepe sold good food.

Ditto on Tania's! And now am missing Sava Polish Restaurant.
The Hamilton Park Ale House, when Maggie was running it. Ox, Many, many restaurants have come and gone since I moved to JC in 2000, but I have to say that I don't mourn most of the departed. So many of them didn't quite have it together.

Jules Italian Restaurant on Franklin street, There was one on Westside Ave also off of Montgomery. They were a family.
Also the Real Casa Dante. When it was family owned, and one of the best restaurants period in the area.

Downtown Eddy's. I lived at Newport for years and never knew about Van Vorst, Hamilton Park or Harsimus Cove. Anyway, I went on several dates at Downtown Eddy's in the late 90s/early 2000s and loved the place. Excellent food, very inviting/friendly like in a Cheer's sort of mom&pop way, great value (Chicken Marsala for 11.00 including sides and italian bread), great drinks, ambiance and the crowd very diverse and convivial (interracial couples, white people, black people, Hispanics, LGBT, older people).

My parents were married on June 18, 1932 in Jersey city and then took their small wedding party to The Alps restaurant. I have the original menu from that day listing the "dinner special" which was a choice of appetizers, relishes, soups, entrees including roast leg of veal with dressing and green peas, baby club steak with fresh mushroom sauce, baked Virginia ham and cabbage, broiled pork chops and fried apples, cold prime ribs of beef, potato salad and sliced tomatoes, chicken ala King with fresh mushrooms, fried calf's liver with bacon or onions, chicken salad-mayonnaise dressing, fried soft shell crabs tartar sauce, half broiled Spring chicken, roast Spring chicken or duckling with apple sauce, roast turkey and apple sauce (25 cents extra), chicken all white meat (25 cents extra). Also choice of vegetables, desserts and beverage.
All this for just ONE DOLLAR!!

Ok. Thanks, Heights! If the counter/tables were in the back of the store, it explains why I never saw the counter/tables area of the store even though I had been in the store several times.

It wasn't exactly a restaurant, but Sweet Priscilla! We need a real (non-starbucks) coffee house in the middle of downtown; i.e., less than 3 blocks from Jersey and Newark. Maybe with a basement that can be used for small music acts. And a few beers on tap too. Nice couches and free wifi. One can dream....

Gabagoolz and Melt
I do like park & 6th, and 2nd street is obviously a staple... but I miss the killer RB & Mozz at Gabagoolz. A JC lazy mans Fiores. there just arn't enough "next level" sandwich options at the moment.

I've got 3:
The Tripoli on Newark Ave. just down the block from the cemetary. They served great Italian cheese cake keeping the recipe a secret. Ilvento's on Westside Ave. for pizza, wine, and mussels, and the waitress that would always scold you. And lastly Roys Buena Vista on Malory a simple family owned Italian place that was comfortable and norishing.

How long did Liss Drugs have a lunch counter? I lived in JC from early July '74 to the end of June '75 but I don't remember seeing a lunch counter at the drugstore which probably existed at the time.

I can remember alot of jc restaurants. Lets begin.Ofcourse there was the Canton tea garden where a women was bit by a rat in the ladies room back in the 70's when they were building the new Path station. Does anybody remember that? Does anybody remember Roma Pizza on Jackson ave across from Sacred Heart? I also loved the Rodeo. I now live in Scottsdale Az and although I love it (summers are brutal), but the winters are to die for--I still think about JC and all the fun I had growing up in the late "s early 70"s. There was also a restaurant named Roys on the Blvd across from JC State College There were many mom&pop places (italian) in JC One I remember was on the corner of Pearsall ave & the Blvd.
