Another reason people probably refrain from picking up their dog's poop, is the fact that there are hardly any public trashcans in Jersey City. I have been told by my landlord to NOT use our outdoor trashcans to dispose of my dog's poop bags (though I pay to live there). It is such a pain having to walk an extra few blocks to find a public trashcan late at night, when it is raining, when I am running late for work, etc. And, yes, I have brought this issue up with the city who could care less.

I really believe more public trashcans would help our rampant dog poop issue.

And please don't throw your bags of poop in private garbage cans on the curb from the prior nights garbage pick up. I personally bring my can back into my basement and don't need a fresh bag of sh*t in my house.

Not sure what the relationship is between cleaning up after your dog and having a license for your dog.

Bottom line...people are lazy, inconsiderate and don't care enough about keeping their neighborhood clean.

I don't see anything ever changing unless people are faced with some kind of punishment.

Kudos to the person who put a bag holder in the alley way between 4th & 4th/ Jersey & Coles. I will be filling it with fresh bags today. Nothing is worse than walking home from your garage late night and stepping in a soggy load.

So true.

A few nights ago, I was parking on McWilliams Place and observed a person looking around to see if anyone was watching while her dog did his business. I glared at her as she walked a several paces away , but she saw me. She abruptly turned around, reached into her pocket for a plastic bag, and cleaned up her dog's mess.

I just can't believe that she left her home with a poop bag but still intended to leave a mess behind near the tennis courts if no one was around.

I have no problem at all getting into a confrontation with someone who doesn't clean up. If they have children or "even care" they'd clean it up. They are disgusting slobs and too good to pick it up...then get rid of the dog. Wonder if these morons change their kids diapers - or is that too beneath them.....
Wonder why they walk at 11pm....can't get caught as easily you cowards !

Didn't get out there today but will gladly post a pic on my next walk, which is usually every day. With the rain tomorrow it may be Friday. Whoever posted the signs cares like the rest of us and is taking the time to remind people.
Will do my best to do it on Friday - thanks to them people "MAY" even try to abide.

I say it's time for public humiliation! If you witness someone not cleaning up after their dog, take a picture and post it here anonymously. But be careful not to let them see you taking a picture of them, you don't want to get into a confrontation.

Hey Josiered, would you have a pic you can post of this sign to give us some ideas of what we can make to put out there since the city won't put up more signs or enforce this law.
I called NID, animal control & even the mayor action line & haven't gotten any real answer to this dog poop crap.
I asked who can clean up my area of the poop & if animal control or jcpd can watch my area when the surrounding blocks walk their dogs & don't pick up their poop from the terrace of grass I have on my street & they just told me 2 find where they owners live & give that info to animal control.
I gave few addresses but still see the same people walking their dogs & not cleanin up.

Kudos to the dog owner and dog I saw Sat morning at the junction of the Turnpike ext and Montgomery.

The owner scooped the dog pile into a bag, tied it, and his golden retriever carried it in it's mouth up Montgomery for disposal. Awesome sight seeing the dog trotting up the street, poop bag in mouth!

I would just like to say a big "THANK YOU" to the person that posted laminated signs on every pole around the baseball field at 9th St. Park telling you to pick up your dog poop, because it is your dog and it is your s**t ! Thanks for taking the time to make people feel guilty and I hope it works. I enjoy walking that path with my dog during the day and gave you a big THUMBS UP when I saw the signs today. It may not help but you gave it 100% -
Let's hope they read it and pay attention.

I want to know who put the laminated signs about cleaning up dog poop around town. They provide a much needed chuckle during my runs (in addition to maybe stopping me from stepping in some).

Last week I saw a guy who looked exactly like the dude from the Playstation commercials standing outside the north exit of the Wells Fargo condo letting his adolescent brown lab make a peanut butter cliffhanger on the curb. As soon as I walked passed he rushed inside, leaving the curb snake steaming for all the behold. Come to think of it, he may have looked more like the Esurance guy.

Someone ought to collect most memorable JC List posts and publish them. Number 270 and 272 in this thread are hilarious. On a serious note, I agree that everyone needs to pick up after their dog. When the snow melted, the amount of poop on the sidewalks was unbelievable. Even my dog is disgusted.

I think people who let their dog crap on the street and walk away should get the death penalty.

To the dog walker who with your full poop bag decided that although you took the effort to pick up your dog sh*t and tie the bag neatly that you'd rather hang it dangling from my front yard gate than deal with it. You truly suck. And know, my friend, karma is a bitch. May the soul of your shoes, along with the empty soul in your body stink of dog sh*t for the rest of your life.

people are pissing in the powerhouse district all the time. they assume that because it's so barren, that no one lives there. i've seen this old chinese dude pissing right in front of my place. and plenty of fratty douches.

and just to rep the other side, as a dog owner, even when it is bitterly cold or raining, I ALWAYS pick up my dog's poop. shame on people leaving all these logs around. really needs to be punished with heavy fines. makes other dog owners, our furry lil' companions, and our city look bad.

Citizens Beware:
The warmer weather is bringing new life to the poopsicles. What was once an avoidable frozen mass is now a smoosh-worthy road apple. Prepare your q-tips and found sticks, your waffle treads are about to get served.

What about the dudes peeing out in public? I've seen three in the past four weeks. One on 2nd Ave., another on Erie up against the Embankment and one on Grove. Seriously, now we have to worry about dudes pissing on walls in public?

i don't see much poop on 4th where i am but i see tons of it on jersey ave, and especially in the alley ways between jersey and coles where the parking garages are. so not cool having to pull your car out at night and stepping in a load.

This will help dogs not to drop a 'load' infront of your property.

You're gonna have to either photograph the offender or stake them out and get in their face. It would probably just cause them to go somewhere else but it's worth a shot. Another option is to call either the N.I.D. or Health Dept.

Skinny: You rock my world.

GordonH: I agree that there's a poop violator on 5th between Erie and Manila. One dog owner on that block lets an unleashed dog out after dark or very early in the morning and does not scoop the poop, at least not immediately. Which means that the poo of a medium-size pooch is hanging out for someone to step in until that owner feels like going out to pick it up.
