Anyone know anything about the Thali place next to Taste of India? I wonder if its owned by the same people... if not might bring competition for Taste of India..
I like the food... however I think its very oily.

I have been to this place a couple of times and i was dissapointed evrytime. First of all, the food is very expensive plus it never tastes fresh. They charge you $1 extra for evrything( even if you ask for some curry on the side). The food after 9pm is almost like leftover.
I remember one instance when i ordered a vegetable combo, the staff and the manager were smelling the basmati rice in front of the crowd..rice looked yellowish and stale. Instead of getting a fresh batch they served the same rice to all. Disgusting!!! I am a huge fan of indian food and trust me i never had such horrible food anywhr else.

Yes, their food is really good! A lot better than one would expect from a mall food court. Also, the staff, anytime I've been there, were really nice and accommodating.

I have been going there on an average once per week on my way back from work through the mall....its definitely freshly prepared and made on site, but you need to really pick the right dishes.
most of their chicken dishes are good (cant speak for the other meat), their veggie dishes are typically good, but i avoid the 'red oily' ones for too much or too much spice. all in all, its good food - their menu does change on a daily basis, which is nice.

The last time I ate there I really got sick.... I think it was the chai tea from the dispenser. The spices or maybe chemicals were overpowering and I LOVE chai tea. I never went back.....

They serve good Indian food in the cafeteria at Newport Tower (connected to the mall). I often ate there when I worked in the area and was never disappointed. You might want to try that place, too.

I've got a weak stomach but ate there once and didn't get sick. And I enjoyed the food.
The tabbouleh place, on the other hand... good food, didn't make me sick-sick, but just gave me indigestion both times I ate there.

I've been getting takeout once a week for a couple of months, usually the chicken Tikka Masala or the lamb Rogan Josh, with Naan and Mango lassi, never had any problems. But then again, I've got an iron stomach, and I guess so does my wife and 9 year old.

Don't want to ruin anyone's opinion of the place, I personally have gone there dozens of time and only loved the food and service, but just wondering if anyone else has had this experience.
Two people I know have gone there and both have gotten sick to the point of having to leave work the next day. 2 days ago, I guess. Again, don't want to ruin anyone's opinion of them, I will certainly go there again, but if anyone else has gotten sick lately, it might be from there.

I tried it too for the first time last week, and for the price, it sure hit the spot. The Naan was fresh-from-the-tandoor and the Chicken Tikka Masala and Palak Paneer were pretty tasty. I even got a Mango Lassi to take home for dessert -- yum! My two favorite parts of the experience were actually not even part of the meal... 1. The free sample: At the counter, I was offered some Chicken Tikka and it was excellent. What I liked most is that they were not at all afraid of spice. It was super flavorful and mega hot! 2. The staff: The fellow that took my order was really upbeat and friendly, and was happy to answer any questions I had about their various offerings. P.S. If you're into South Indian food, they have a whole separate menu of those options as well.

There's a new "Taste Of India" At Newport Centre in the food court. I would never have expected the food to be better than some of the local indian restaurants in Jersey City.
I've gone at least 4 times in the last 3 weeks. The food is very fresh, delicious and oh so spicy. I love the convenience and it's very affordable plus they have a great staff there. I've noticed that the the sides vary on a daily basis, I love that. Will keep going, and going and going...
