I remember at the end of the school year there would be a fight between Spanish and Black groups and also a 'beat-up this person' list passed around. This was 35 years ago. Things are not worse guys but unfortunately they are not better. I try to be an optimist but sometimes.....

I know some very decent hard working kids who go to Ferris. Too bad a large group of not so decent kids are ruining the name for everyone else.

now that i thought about it, this incident sounds like the one that just happened in Chicago. But of course gang fights.
It must be Gang Month in urban cities or something.

by any chance has this been happening on fridays? i asked because i had a discussion with friends last week who mentioned when they were in (co-ed) high school every friday there would be an initiation on the freshmen from beating them up in or outside of school premises that alot of the freshman kids would purposely stay home from school on fridays.

The other day, my kid asked me about what had happened on Montgomery Street and told me what he saw from the bus.
Then, I read about it on this thread. I just read a story about something similar that happened in Chicago, a kid was killed. Video and story. http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dpp/news/metro/video_derrion_albert I hope the JC Police are taking this seriously.

awhile back, someone posted on here that they 'heard' that gangs were initiating that night and that people were going to get shot up/ stabbed in local high schools. rumors kept spreading and they shut down some schools early iirc. i think later it was found that all that was only rumors. if jenny questioned a story that originally had no firsthand evidence, it's not because she's cynical or crazy. she's simply posting from experience

I can absolutely CONFIRM Thursdays event. I was at the JC Public Library at the time of the commotion, and everyone in the reading room was like... WHAT THE F is going on out there.
Lots of Sirens... kids screaming... bullhorns... police and ambulances... even fire I think. Just bad. Was again at the library today but didn't hear anything. Frankly... the police need to POLICE these schools... JAIL. Put em in Jail. And break these GANGS. ITS GANGS folks. And arrest those litterbugs at the same time. Enough. Remember those window washers and Giuliani? Stop crime with the smallest offense. We can't let JC go back to the 1960's and 70's. FG

Do these kids wear burgundy shirts? If so, I saw a huge group of these kids on Brunswick around 2nd Street around 2:30pm while I was on my way to work.
If it is these kids, I gotta say they're not too bright for wearing their school shirts when they're running wild and fighting.

I just got back from walking over to Grove to pick up my dry cleaning and I saw so many cops around. I was wondering if something had happened because I NEVER see this many cops around here. I hope no one was hurt, and a machete...really?

They need to keep these children in at lunchtime - this might have happened after school today but there is no need to let kids run wild outside school mid day, every day. It doesn't help anything except to sell cheap crappy junk food.

My last comment on this: I used quotes for event because i think it's a ridiculously staid word to use for what happened, and it was the word chosen by the poster before me. No larger intention than that.
Icechute, clearly you and I have a different reaction to what we see/hear/read around us. So be it. Pissing off now...

I saw several kids and, strangely enough, a woman in a shirt that said something like "Jennymamma". I really couldn't read it as she was running and crazily swinging an 8 foot long 2x4 over her head.

the one yesterday lasted about 10 minutes before a host of police cars came to the corner of jersey/montgomery and broke up whatever was happening.
i was in the dog run at the time, and heard the shouting/commotion--it was quite loud--and then saw the 'kids' running all over the place (and carrying pieces of wood), but couldn't see the 'fight' b/c of the trees/bushes. reportedly, some of the 'kids' were, in addition to fighting one another, throwing rocks at cars. today it happened again. only this time there was at least one pretty freaked out mom with her baby in a stroller near the band stand, almost huddling as 'kids' tore through the park (again with pieces of wood--where do they get them?) upon the cops arrival. wtf.

A bunch of them heard or saw the cops and then ran West on Wayne, through Dixon and towards Monmouth where they split off in 3 directions. I also heard on the scanner that they picked-up and took at least 4 to juvenile. Seriously Jenny, you don't seem to want to believe anything bad happens here unless it's within 6 feet of you.

i hate high school kids. i even hated them when i was in high school.
at least it seems like the jcpd did something for once. i know how difficult it is for them to get anything accomplished.
