DEfinately keep the road rage down. This morning in front of the Jersey Avenue Library i witnessed one driver get out of his car and berate another carservice driver who had obviously said something to him at the corner. I thought that there was going to be gunfire....

This summer is out of hand. I am just bewildered that Comey the chins and Healy think they have a grasp on crime in Jersey City.

I was out this morning and saw two younger guys about to beat the christ out of one another. This was approximately 8AM near the Pathmark. What is even more shameful was that there were two JC cops just looking at them while standing in the DD parking lot. Fellas, go over and diffuse the situation, run them for warrants and either send them on their separate ways or take them in. Instead of doing that, the cops just got back in their car and leisurely drove off.

My belief is that if these thugs and other trash of society feel they can get away with bad behavior and petty crimes, then the bigger, more serious crimes will be easy to accomplish.

there is no power that be, they are all going to JAIL, or headed that way. Unless ofcourse you mean a higher power like god. I think we have a better chance at salvation if we pray then waiting for the " officials" to do anything about it.

OMG. This city is off the chain right now and even the eternal optimist in me is getting scared. Please keep your eyes open and don't provoke any violence (i.e. keep your own "road rage", etc. in check). God-willing the wake-up calls of ALL bad news lately will shock the power-that-be into helping us all keep the PEACE!

GWB --

Alas, addressing crime and public safety will not happen anytime soon, given the paralysis of Jersey City's municipal government, as the administration defensively crouches, awaiting the next, imminent round of federal indictments.

And while the elected/appointed leadership all huddle in full CYA-mode, the general public and the police will continue to run the gauntlet on streets that are less safe every day.

Sadly, an August monsoon is unlikely. And absent that type of meteorological intervention -- literally 31 nights of rain -- the E.R. at the J.C. Medical Center will be at capacity, or beyond, with the tensions brewing on the corner, and perceived lack of effective control by the P.D.

Be safe.

Mmmmm you think government is focused on these issues? I have a sneaking suspicion that this shooting will be discussed about 95% less than some issues hitting closer to home for some individuals.

We're screwed.

How awful. What will it take to compel change in this town? How egregious must the crime level become before we collectively say, "ENOUGH!" Ten wounded in a single shootout? Another martyred cop?

On Friday, we rightfully honored and mourned a brave frontline casualty in this war on society. Officer DiNardo's heroism touched everyone. But no sooner do the teary-eyed tributes end and the bagpipes fade, just hours later, then another round of gunfire rings out.

These violent incidents are getting worse. And our administration, and police brass, exude little/no confidence about suitable/meaningful answers. "Pray for rain" -- to keep the malcontents with firearms indoors -- is not a solution.

What will it take to improve matters? Better community-policing models, more programs, thinking-outside-the-box, and clear, strong leadership. Can Jersey City risk continuing to do simply the same, in its public safety? With regular headlines like "Five Wounded in Shooting," not for long...

Long summer. Long not so hot summer. Summer of jc's discontent. Call it whatever you can come up with, but this is one f'd up season. We're well past the level of nuttiness of whatever year we had the bicycle bandit. What was that 04? That was a wild summer. This one crushes that one.

View Larger Map Greenville: Five Wounded in Jersey City Shooting NYTimes By NATE SCHWEBER Published: July 25, 2009 Five people, including a 16-year-old girl and a woman in her 50s, were shot and wounded in Jersey City early Saturday, the police said. All of the victims were in stable condition at the Jersey City Medical Center, Lt. Edgar Martinez, a police spokesman, said about 1:30 a.m. ?All of them are talking,? he said. The shooting began about 12:30 a.m. near the corner of Bergen and Claremont Avenues, Lieutenant Martinez said. The police were unclear early Saturday about the details, and they said they were searching for suspects. Lieutenant Martinez said it did not appear that the victims were related to one another. They included two men in their 30s who were shot in the chest, a man in his 20s who was shot in the arm, a 16-year-old girl who was shot in the leg and a 50-year-old woman who was also shot in the leg, Lieutenant Martinez said. He said officers secured the area near the shooting but faced a challenge in trying to sort out what happened. ?When we showed up, everybody was fighting and nobody was talking,? Lieutenant Martinez said. The shooting occurred just hours after the funeral of Officer Mark DiNardo, who died on Tuesday. He and four other Jersey City police were shot on July 16 by a robbery suspect as they stormed his apartment. The robbery suspect and his companion were killed. About 12 hours after Officer DiNardo died, two Jersey City officers were stabbed, one in the arm, one in the head, by a knife-wielding woman. The officers then shot and killed the woman. The two officers were part of a six-member team that had been sent to an apartment on Van Wagenen Avenue to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance, the police said. The officers were taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
