Yeah, don't you guys know a much more productive use of your time would be to repeat the same phrase over and over in every thread involving a crime. That's how to get things done.

I agree with the point made above about blaming the victim.

I've been noticing a trend here lately that when crime happens within the so-called "safe-zone", it is becoming more and more likely that someone here is going to post "they should have known" or "they shouldn't carry cash" or something like that.

From this story, to the one a few weeks back about the guy who was robbed in Paulus Hook to all the jokes about the holdup with the potato, I've noticed this disturbing trend.

Keep laughing it off..... you're feeding off what Healy and Comey want you to believe.

You may now go back to discussing diversity at bars and "amazing blank"...

Healy and Comey are full of it and if we can't afford cops then the city should at least get fixed permanent cameras in our strip shopping areas and entertainment locations - bars and restaurants.

Comey and Healy are as useful as a siht in a swimming pool.

Those CCTV Cameras are a joke! They seemed to be used more when Cunningham was mayor but now you almost never hear of a criminal or crime being caught on tape. They are on Ocean ave, MLK (Jackson ave), Bergen ave, Central ave and I believe JSQ. Those streets have plenty of crime for the people that watch the CCTV screens to report yet when was the last time you read the Jersey Journal and heard they were used to respond or assist in a capture?

I remember an article years ago about how the people that are supposed to be watching them have many screens from different cameras in front of them making it harder to spot crime. The main point of the article was that the people were falling a sleep instead of paying attention to what was going on. So do you really think more cameras are going to do anything? All it means is more screens in front of each person cause I doubt this city would hire more people to watch them.

Can Comey even see the streets? Looks like his chins and fat gut block his view.

And there was that poor guy who got his throat cut and died in the early morning commute hours while he was standing on the Light Rail platform, waiting for his train along with the other commuters. What if the thinking was: He shouldn't have been out there, in the morning, going to work! What did he expect, being out at that hour!

People are sometimes comfortable with indirectly 'blaming' the victim for being out late ...

Yes, we live in a high-crime area and do have to take precautions. Of course we have to take measures to try to keep ourselves safe.

But, in the end, if our sidewalks are not safe at 3am, they are probably not really all that safe at 8am, either.

Enough crime happens in broad daylight around here. We shouldn't entertain the smallest amount of 'well, you shouldn't have been walking the streets that late!' thinking. Crime at any hour is not okay.

3AM is 3AM. You have to be careful at that hour wherever you live.

Couple slashed in robbery
Wednesday, July 15, 2009

A Bayonne couple was slashed during a failed robbery in Downtown Jersey City early yesterday morning, police reports said.

The couple, who live on Parkside Lane in Bayonne, told the police they were walking along Grand Street near Washington Street at around 3 a.m. when another couple in their late 20s or early 30s approached them, police said.

The woman tried to grab the 38-year-old victim's purse, while the man grabbed something from ground and slashed her in the chest and her husband, 43, in the left arm, reports said. Both assailants fled empty-handed, reports said. The victims received stitches at the Jersey City Medical Center.
