Just to rekindle the thread for FGJCNJ1970. By the way, I walked by yesterday. Right underneath it as a matter of fact. JC must have redefined indefinitely to just a few weeks.

Vega sounds like a real winner. My neighbor has 12,000 tons of dynamite but "it's private property".

I brought this to the attention of the Council about 18 months ago, Councilman Vega said it is private property and nothing could be done. That's when I created this video.

Roadway shut? Not that I saw. Rocks raining down? Hardly. Like I posted, I was there yesterday afternoon. I was sorta expecting to see some sort of commotion. Maybe a boulder teetering on the edge of a precipice like in a Roadrunner cartoon. Or chunks of rocks crashing onto Erie from 50 feet above. Other than the excitement of a bit of roped off sidewalk and yellow tape flapping in the breeze, there was bubkis. Jeez, talk about the sky falling...

6th and Erie roadway shut; rocks rain down
Jersey Journal Tuesday, April 14, 2009 The Jersey City Fire Department cordoned off a portion of the Sixth Street Embankment yesterday afternoon after small pieces of rock began to fall from atop the structure, officials said. A concerned pedestrian who saw rocks falling at Sixth and Erie streets called the firefighters, who sealed off the area with yellow tape, Jersey City Fire Director Armando Roman said. The falling rocks posed a safety hazard, but no one was hurt, Roman said. The same issue arose earlier this year, prompting the city to cordon off the same intersection for about two months, Roman said. This time the area will be closed indefinitely, he said. JACOB KAMARAS

The thing is, I don't think the city is at fault, it would have to be Hyman's bitch. She doesn't shovel her sidewalks either, so at this point they are just asking for the lawsuit, it doesn't matter to them though they got bank and don't give a *&^%. That's why nobody in the neighborhood likes them and wants a park...get it?

See.... things have fallen off before from the embankment and will continue to do so.
It's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. And then of course they'll sue the city.... and our taxes will go up again. Time for it to be taken down. Unfortunately there is this thing called gravity... and well.... what goes up.... eventually falls and crumbles down. And roots from trees would indeed push out the stones. Trees grow and their roots underground grow. When confined the roots would push outwards.... thus pushing up against the stone. Nothing lasts forever... nature will take down the embankment eventually. Let's hope no one gets hurt the next time something falls off from there. FG

Just took this ten minutes ago: Nothing to launch into hysterics about... of course Hyman & Conrail will probably bring in a wrecking ball to dislodge it. 111 First, anyone??

Just passed the embankment at 6th & Erie & saw the Fire Department taping off the corner. They said a large stone at top may fall due to tree roots and the winter thaw cycle.
Said they had been there previously but it has shifted for sure. Hope the city or owner, whoever, will address this quickly and we don't see it fall onto the sidewalk and street. Thing must weigh a 1,000 pounds. Calling Councilman Fulop.
