since this is JClist... how long before people start complaining about this?
- they're polluting my river, i was here first! - too many yuppies on the plane trying to gentrify the river! - if there had been after school programs, there would've been no crash! just kidding. that pilot is a total rock star. someone had better buy him a drink!

They did a great job - seems like they saved everyone - even the plane is still up and floating. This whole thing again shows why there shouldn't be air shows in densely populated areas. No need to take such great risks for such nonsense. I'm glad this is turning out so well.

Plane hit birds!

A U.S. Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River, sending passengers fleeing for safety in the frigid waters. New York City firefighters, federal transportation officials and an armada of boats were responding to the accident. It was not immediately clear if there were injuries. "I just thought, 'Why is it so low?' And, splash, it hit the water," said witness Barbara Sambriski, a researcher at The Associated Press. The plane was submerged in the icy waters up to the windows, and rescue crews had opened the door and were pulling passengers in yellow life vests from the plane. Several boats surrounded the plane, which appeared to be slowly sinking. "I saw what appeared to be a tail fin of a plane sticking out of the water," said Erica Schietinger, whose office windows at Chelsea Piers look out over the Hudson. USAIR enroute from laGuardia to Charlotte NC apparently hit something in the air after take-off. 135 people on board, pilot landed smooth on water, plane still intact. People exiting and many ferries dropping life preservers in water.

 Small plane down in river off New York 15 Jan 2009 20:40:31 GMT Source: Reuters NEW YORK, Jan 15 (Reuters) - A small plane carrying more than a dozen people splashed down in the frigid waters of the Hudson River off Manhattan on Thursday and survivors were seen standing on the wings awaiting rescue, Reuters witnesses said. It was not clear what caused the plane to go down. It was floating on the surface of the fast-moving river and ferries were seen approaching to rescue passengers. Just can't stay away
|
NEW YORK (WABC) -- Eyewitness News has learned a plane has crashed into the Hudson River.
The plane is a US Airways plane. The plane went down near 57th street around 3:30 p.m. Rescuers are on the scene. There is no word on injuries or cause of the crash at this time.

A Plane just crashed in the Hudson River by the Intrepid. It looks like a large commercial airline. Does anyone know what happened?
