i will summarize since you dont feel like reading the article/complaint..

the officers were on hormone replacement therapy due to documented symptoms and reduction in testosterone levels. the controversy in the medical world is how far to raise a patient's natural hormone levels with these drugs and what constitutes "low" testosterone levels.

How were they legal? Were these officers ill?

i bet it has never crossed anyones mind that maybe the officers are good cops. or even good people. crazy right?

i know at least one cop on that list that i'd be disappointed to see gone from the JCPD.

maybe the scenario was sketchy but there were no laws broken. there were legal prescriptions!

First I would like to say get the story right the officers were not found to have steroids in their system that's why the law suit came about. Now none of the officers were on modify duty except one. Now since the law suit was thrown out the city wants to place a story in the newspaper giving false information on these good cops to throw dirt on their names. Shows what kind of support these officers get from the city and its top brass ...



Another fact that should be included in this entire situation is the following : any persons that are under supervision for hormonal treatment by a certified doctor in this specific field, are monitored and kept at certain hormonal levels in accordance with the patients' dosages. Therefore, the mentioned persons are not a 'liability' or suspect to a fabricated 'roid rage.' If these officers have a valid medical diagnosis , and are receiving the proper treatment than where is the risk to one's health and just as important the safety of others ? Maybe there are some officers taking illegal steroids without a valid medical diagnosis or doctor's supervision , but none of these officers mentioned fit these criteria. It is a clear mistake and violation upon the City and the J.C.P.D. that these mentioned officers' private, medical history has been made public...

I hope these officers appeal the decision deemed by the Federal Court and prove that the City and the upper brass / administration of the J.C.P.D. were very wrong and can not hide under this 'qualified immunity' excuse... For anyone of you that have knowledge of the governing laws on the Federal and State level , please keep in mind that 'qualified immunity, is not absolute. This means that officials can abuse their discretion and violate certain persons...

Federal judge dismisses Jersey City cops' lawsuit challenging steriod tests

Federal court rulings have ruled in favor of Jersey City, saying they were not wrong in testing their officers for steroids, as reported by The Jersey Journal's Melissa Hayes in today's editions.

A group of Jersey City cops filed suit stating they were prescribed to take such drugs. The issue arose when an New York Police Department case uncovered officers were using a Brooklyn pharmacy to obtain illegal drugs.

How to pick out a cop using steroids.

1. Obviously muscular and thick necks
2. They like to wear tight shirts and often like to flex their muscles.
3. Thinning hair that is often spiked to appear like a full head of hair or completely bald (side-effects to steriods)
4. Acne on face, back etc.
5. Short temper and aggressive.
6. My favorite - Development of breasts.

T he sports world was shocked by New York Yankee superstar Alex Rodriguez's admission of steroid use to enhance his on-field performance. Here in Hudson County we simply ask: Whatever happened to an investigation of steroid use by members of the Jersey City Police Department?
It has been more than a year since city officials confirmed that such a probe was underway.
The public only learned that there might have been officers taking performance enhancing drugs such as human growth hormone after a television news report last year that the New York City Police Department launched its own internal affairs investigation into alleged police use of steroids. It was triggered by an October 2007 raid on Lowen's Pharmacy in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where $7 million in steroids were found.
Jersey City cops' names appeared on the pharmacy's client list. These officers were relieved of their guns and put on administrative duty in late February 2008. They were expected to stay there pending the outcome of the investigation, which is currently being pursued as a personnel matter.
Police and city officials refused to name the officers or say how many have been placed on administrative duty.
Anabolic steroids are artificially created hormones. They are similar to the male sex hormones in the body. Steroid supplements are a weaker variety, but just as illegal without a prescription. The idea is that their use will improve strength and increase muscle mass.
There was even a lawsuit filed against the city and Police Department by a city resident who called for help when he spotted a burglar on his roof. He charged that he was attacked by a police officer who was in a "roid rage."
Since the announced steroid probe the Police Department has announced it is working on a plan to annually test 25 percent of the police force's 900 members. What has happened to this proposal?
There should also be a plan - hopefully an upgraded proposal - to help officers deal with substance abuse, including alcohol.
It is also about time the city told its citizens the results of the internal investigation into alleged steroid abuse by officers. This is not a request.

Jersey City cops put on administrative duties over 'roids probe

A number of Jersey City police officers have been placed on administrative duties and some have had their guns taken away as a consequence of the internal affairs investigation into alleged steroid abuse, officials revealed today.

About three weeks ago, Jersey City Police Chief Tom Comey was notified by the New York City Police Department officials of the allegation, said city spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill.

The Jersey City officers assigned to administrative duties are expected to maintain that status pending the outcome of the investigation, which is currently being pursued as a personnel matter, Sgt. Pat McCarthy said.

Morrill said no Jersey City police officers have been arrested or suspended and that the names of the officers placed on administrative duties are not being released because of rules governing personnel matters.

Comey said the allegations into steroid abuse are being investigated thoroughly.

Last month, the NYPD launched its own internal affairs investigation into several of its officers' alleged use of steroids.

That investigation was triggered by a raid on a Brooklyn pharmacy.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy confirmed yesterday that the Jersey City Police Department's Internal Affairs Unit is investigating allegations that officers in the department are using illegal steroids.

"We are conducting a thorough investigation and are taking every measure possible to uncover the facts surrounding these allegations," Healy said in a statement.

ya know, it's amazing how many people are on the juice these days. honestly, every time I see some guy in public with huge muscles, veins popping out everywhere, I always think to myself there's a great chance he didn't get like that naturally. it's just so common.

what is a bit surprising to me though is 40! officers. that's a lot of people unconcerned with their health. and like previously stated, their balls.

if even half of those officers under suspicion are proved to be on the juice, that's a huge amount, and it would be a terrible shame as well.

I can't believe that the JCPD would ever have conduct issues like this.

As many as 40 Jersey City police officers are under investigation for possible steroid abuse, a Jersey City source told The Jersey Journal last night.

WNBC-TV/Channel 4 in New York reported last night that the department's Internal Affairs unit is heading the probe and also reported that a police spokesman confirmed the ongoing probe.

Jersey City spokesman Stan Eason told The Jersey Journal last night that he could neither confirm or deny that there is an investigation.

A source told the Journal that upwards of three dozen officers are being targeted.

No officers have been charged and the police spokesman said no officer has faced disciplinary action at this time, WNBC-TV reported.

The New York City Police Department last month launched its own internal affairs investigation into several officers' alleged use of steroids, WNBC reported.

That investigation started as a result of a raid on a Brooklyn pharmacy last year. NYPD officials recently alerted Jersey City officials, WNBC-TV reported.

NEW YORK - Jersey City police are investigating officers in their department to see if they were improperly using steroids, WNBC.com has learned. A police spokesman confirmed the ongoing probe.

"There is an internal affairs investigation within the Jersey City police department," the spokesman said, but declined to give details. One law enforcement source said numerous officers are being questioned but said the investigation is in its early stages.

No officers have been charged and the police spokesman said no officer has faced disciplinary action at this time. A spokesman for the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday, "There is no criminal investigation presently active."

This steroid probe comes weeks after the New York City Police Department launched its own internal affairs investigation into several officers' alleged use of steroids.

That investigation started as a result of a raid on a Brooklyn pharmacy last year.

WNBC.com is told NYPD officials recently alerted Jersey City officials that some of its officers might also be linked to improper steroid use.
