I don't think so, and the Council has to vote on the resoluation to hire any council aide. Even appointed positions go through a criminal background check, I don't think anything has changed since I was appointed in 2003. We had criminal background checks and also had to go for illegal drug testing. It's my understanding that this was a requirement for ALL employment and still consists today. As much as I like Willie Flood as a person, I feel hiring her son based on what he did, was a very poor judgment call.

Has anyone asked for a comment from Healy, Fulop or any other Council member regarding these actions? Is there any law on the book that could somehow "impeach" Flood for this?

Very nice,One Dirt bag brother hired by the City attorney represents a low life drug dealer hired by his Mommy.
Altogether these four upstanding citizens are making over 300,000 dollars of our money.Remember that next time you pay your Tax bill.

Doesn't the cop who arrested the ass have to give evidence on why he arrested the ass and what he found on him, the location and all that stuff? What will the cop say if it goes to court - does he just not mention the drugs, the location near the school or driving mommy's mercedes to the judge? It all smells of corruption BIG time.

huh. this is from the guy's NJ Bar Ethics Admonition:
"The Disciplinary Review Board held that an admonition was the appropriate discipline for an attorney who, in violation of the contingent fee rule, miscalculated his fees in six matters by using the gross settlement amount, instead of the net amount. The respondent also negligently misappropriated clients' trust funds, failed to properly deliver funds to a third party, and failed to comply with mandatory record keeping rules." it just gets more unbelievable, they're all crooks over there. but I guess it takes one to defend one.

Got PTI after benefits fraud case, prior to drug bust
Friday, November 30, 2007 By KEN THORBOURNE JOURNAL STAFF WRITER A February marijuana arrest for Phillip Flood II - whose mother is Jersey City Councilwoman and Hudson County Register Willie Flood - was merely his latest brush with the law, officials said yesterday. According to the state Attorney General's Office, Flood II - who was recently hired to two government jobs working for his mother - waived his right to a trial by jury when the state accused him last year of unlawfully collecting $13,000 of unemployment insurance. Flood II allegedly committed this theft by deception - a third-degree crime - between Aug. 4, 2001 and Aug. 23, 2003, according the documents. He was accused of filling out state forms saying he was unemployed when, in fact, he was employed. Peter Aseltine, a spokesman for the attorney general, said last night he couldn't tell from the paperwork if Flood II pleaded guilty to the accusation. What is clear is that Flood II, 29, waived his right to an indictment by grand jury and a trial by jury and entered a pre-trial intervention program, which resulted in no crime being entered on his record, Aseltine said. Before Flood II entered the pre-trial intervention program, in September of last year, he paid back all the money, Aseltine said. Reached yesterday at the Register's Office, where he was hired on Oct. 17 as a $38,000-a-year data processing systems programmer, Flood II said he had "no comment on anything." His attorney, Philip Matsikoudis, declined to comment, citing attorney/client privilege. In February, Flood II, 29, was busted for allegedly selling marijuana out of his mother's Mercedes Benz at Wayne and Barrow streets. That charge was downgraded to a disorderly persons offense and referred to the Jersey City Municipal Court, which didn't respond yesterday to inquiries into how the case was resolved. Last week, Flood II started a second government gig. His mother, who didn't return phone calls yesterday seeking comment, hired him as her $15,000-a-year aide. Asked if his mother played a role in securing his county and council jobs, Flood II, replied, "Not to my knowledge." http://www.nj.com/news/jjournal/index ... 96406403289130.xml&coll=3

If we can't have ethical behavior from our council staff, maybe we should push for an independent board to run the employment of staff for city hall - One that doesn't discriminate against others and gives everyone a fair opportunity to employment with strict guildlines.
I wonder how many people actually applied for Flood II jobs, what was the interview process and how was it advertised? I'd also like to know which cop gave the green light to reduce his charges - this cop would make for a good friend for times of need

The hiring of this drug dealer is an affront to all residents of Jersey City. I am constantly reading about residents complaining of drug dealing in their neighborhood. Now a sitting city councilwoman, who herself has two goverment salarys totaling roughly $ 140,000. to $150,000 has her son (a drug dealer) hired too not one but 2 goverment jobs! Perhaps councilwoman Flood is on her way to becoming the Jersey City version of Camdens "Wayne Bryant"! Help can not be sought from the City Council because they are all on multiple payrolls with the exception of Councilman Fulop! Any chance of Mayor Healy putting an end to this insanity?

This should be a good tip for Healy next time he wants to get drunk and practice his social intervention skills - do it within the boundary of JC.

The son being charged with numerous drug offenses and then having the county downgrade the charges to simply disorderly persons....
This is a major concern I have. It seems city government has undue influence on decisions being made at the county judicial level.

...and btw, speaking of cesspools, I've been going down Montgomery alongside city hall at all different times of day for a few years now, and I've never (I mean not once) seen a car in Mayor Quimby's parking space - what is up with that.

I'll say it once, I'll say it a million times - NO ONE with a criminal record should have a city hall job.

I just had an alarming thought: is the Register's office where all deeds, mortgages real-estate tranactions, etc. get recorded? Or am I confusing that with the county recorder's office? When those documents get sent there by the lawyers for official recording, there's all sorts of personal data on them. It's up to the office to make sure sensitive data, like your SSN, are redacted from the public record. Even if they are doing that, it's not exactly comforting knowing someone with a criminal background has access to all sorts of personal data. If it's not Flood II, it's bound to be someone else, given the cesspool that's public office in Hudson County. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to do a credit freeze: http://www.state.nj.us/dobi/division_ ... /finance/creditfreeze.htm
A credit freeze can be a major inconvenience if you want to take out a loan or apply for a new credit card, but it's the only way effective way of preventing identity theft. The hassles seem kind of minor compared to what can happen once someone has all your personal data (shudder).

He's a data processing systems programmer? I would like to see his resume and college transcripts.
If any of you had any real estate transactions the last few months, you better check your tax and real estate records. http://www.cityofjerseycity.com/taxes.aspx?id=980 I was looking at the records for my building and I saw that Jersey City had one of neighbors married to someone else last month. I know they bought another unit in the building. But instead of changing the ownership of the other unit, Jersey City changed the husband's name to someone else on their current unit. Or maybe there is some kind of scam going on at City Hall. It is changed even here: http://www.njactb.org/
