By employing Flood II, Flood I has completed the first plank of her platform. Looks like the next plank will require the city to subsidize her house. Watch for it.

This would be funny if it weren't so outrageous and pathetic.

Well, it's good to know that Flood II will be working in the Hudson County Register's office, which is responsible for "recording, filing and preserving all formal written documents affecting real property within the County. . . . The documents are checked for compliance with the statutory recording requirements, priced and then recorded."

In short, if you want to know why the office misplaced your property records, perhaps it has something to do with the quality of their hires.

At least Flood I is nothing but consistent. By hiring Flood II she seems to have abided by her personal and governing philosophy - making sure that government gives children direction and steers them away from drugs. Here's an excerpt from a 2005 Jersey City Vibe profile on Flood I:

Councilwoman Willie Flood - At Large
Monday, July 11, 2005

The once and future councilwoman knows what issues to focus on. One of the most fundamental debates in national politics centers on the role of government in our lives. For Willie Flood, this role is clear. ?I worry about our children,? Flood begins. ?So many of them have no serious direction and are attracted to selling drugs and easy money. I want them to move up.? As much as she believes parents and educators play a critical role in helping young kids rise in society, Flood sees the need for city government to play an active part. ?We need to try to provide more affordable housing for their parents."

You know why she did it.Because SHE CAN..

24,000 registered voters in Ward E and maybe 3500 come out for a local election. So she thinks F___ them i can do what i want.

A drug dealer is now making over Fifty thousand dollars paid with our tax dollars.

That friggen article should be cut out and taped to your fridgerator so you don't forget come election time.

More of the same. I don't know how Steve Fulop can even stand to be in the same room with those people on the council, he's got more patience than me.

If you want to help, please write and offer to volunteer:

info@BetterJC.com

Because assuming they've got enough signatures, once these 2 referendum ballots come up for voting it's going to be tough sledding - the corruption in city hall has been there for a long, long time and is not going away without a fight.

I figure I can either move out of JC, or I can try to make it better - and I hate moving.

i do vote, but perhaps the more efficient way is finding out who's voting for the crooks and break their index fingers hague boy style.

There is no other solution to the ineptitude and corruption of local government but at the ballot box. We can complain and whine all we want but as long as corrupt/inept people are elected, that's what we'll get. If you want to help JC you have to vote and better yet, get involved in the political process.

I came home for lunch to read this crap - WTF?

Flood, Flood II, the cops, Mayor and the prosecutor who agreed to this and the lesser charge should be fired on the spot - no questions asked.

Another unethical crap situation by all concerned.

i know i shouldn't be shocked anymore, as others have said, and i'm not. but i am pissed that we are supposed to accept this as jc's way. its bullsh*t and its about time these people answer for this crap.

I'm really just annoyed anymore at the state of everything, and enough is enough. i'm glad someone raised a flag, but why should this be allowed for some and not others. if its bad enough to be outlawed in one situation it should be outlawed across the board. of course i'm not that naive i know why its not, but i think it may be time for something bigger than the jc political machine to come in, and strap these bastards over the knee and slap some much needed sense or shame into them.

as jlo said, ENOUGH!

if any of you carpetbagging yuppie newcomers gets the urge to ask, "why can't Jersey City spend more money on______ (schools, sewers, green space...)" please refer back to this thread for your answer.

Makes for a 30-second commute! And it leaves you wondering why he needed mom's car - the lazy ass. He could've used a "borrowed" BJ's shopping cart. Oh, that's right - I forgot - the yuppies have invaded downtown. Even the drug dealers are going upscale!

WTF is wrong with people, why would anyone vote this person back into office? I don't think you could make up a more ridiculous story and this is real.

I didn't know that Flood II sells AND lives on Wayne street.

I love that the paper writes "Flood II"

It's like a bad sequel or something.

This isn't really all that surprising; this sort of thing happens on every level of New Jersey government, from both parties.

I am at a loss to rational thought, when a person that has been "charged with numerous drug offenses" be suddenly "downgraded to a disorderly persons offense".
Is this Jersey City justice, at it's best?

Flood hires son twice for $50G-plus

Wednesday, November 28, 2007
By KEN THORBOURNE
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

After what was no doubt an extensive search, Hudson County Register and Jersey City City Councilwoman Willie Flood has found her ideal employee: Her son - Phillip T. Flood II.

Within the past two months, Flood II - who was arrested in February and charged with selling marijuana out of his mother's Mercedes - has landed two government jobs, both working for mom.

On Oct. 17, the 29-year-old Flood II was hired as a $38,016-a-year data processing systems programmer in the Register's office, according to county records.

Then, on Nov. 20, Flood II began employment as a council aide to his mother - a position that earns him another $15,000 a year, officials said.

Downtown Councilman Steve Fulop raised a question about this hiring at Monday's council caucus on the grounds that recently enacted state ethic rules bar legislators from hiring relatives.

But that rule only applies to state legislators, not to elected city officials, said city Corporation Counsel Bill Matsikoudis.

Willie Flood, Flood II, and the attorney who represented Flood II on the marijuana charge all did not return phone calls yesterday seeking comment.

Flood II, a resident of Wayne Street, was charged Feb. 15 with selling marijuana at Wayne and Barrow streets, according to police reports. Flood II, along with an 18-year-old, was charged with numerous drug offenses, including dealing drugs within 1,000 feet of a school and within 500 feet of a park, reports said.

The charge was downgraded to a disorderly persons offense and referred to the Jersey City Municipal Court for disposition, an official said yesterday.

Municipal Court officials couldn't be reached yesterday.

Willie Flood earns $108,302 a year as register, a position she was elected to last November, and $34,000 a year as a council member.
